Probation

I think we all agree here that the WOD is a failure and it should be treated as a medical problem instead of a criminal problem but that's not what we have at this point in time. You can claim it doesn't work but that's only if you have a clintonesque definition of what success is. ;) I like to stick with reality and the reality of the situation is that sometimes probation works as intended and given the current alternative, jail time, probation is sanely preferred. Since you agree that probation is punishment you should also agree that probation is intended to keep less serious offenders out of jail, giving them a second chance in case they just made a mistake. In that regard probation often succeeds. I can't make you agree but facts are facts.

What its actually comes down to is that you don't know what you're talking about.Probation is just like drawn out jail time. And I don't think you've been on probation because you fail to realize this theory. Most of my friends hang out with me regualrly and all smoke pot. Smoking pot is a very daily thing. Now being around that and not trying to smoke is quite difficult. Maybe one day you will understand this concept. Probation for 6 months is the equivalent of 3 -15 days in jail. I'd definatly prefer jail time. Obviously you have your head up your ass, for multiple reasons. First, you admit your retarded idea is just a theory so what you THINK other people know is actually your own ignorance. Secondly, probation isn't "drawn out jail time" because you're NOT IN FUCKING JAIL. Finally, to further prove "what you know" isn't based on truth or reality, I HAVE been on probation.

You're not very good at this...While YOU might prefer jail, *most* people gladly take the probation because they have a life, a job, a family, or otherwise just prefer "out" to "in" like sane people do. Again, your ignorance and hate shows through. Yes, I've been to jail too. I prefer probation. I like to be able to go for a drive if and when I like.

well, actually i rather would have went to jail then be on probation, but I'm trying to get this stuff off my record (for the most part) so I can move on with my life. So yeah, in my case, probation is helping me out in that aspect. But it is ridiculous that a job im applying to 10 years down the road will most likely decline me because of something i did when I was 17. So what would be the harm in taking my weed and giving me a ticket? I'd be heading off to college and not have to go to rehab classes for fucking marijuana. I wouldn't have to call a hotline everyday to see if I have to make a 30 minute drive to have some guy watch me pee in a cup. I wouldn't be so stressed out, and I could sit back and smoke some weed.
And you have no room saying that just because of drugs I don't do good in school. I'm at the top of my class, and a lot of colleges would accept me if I didn't have a felony on my record. I know i have gotten a "second chance", and I won't fuck it up because I won't give the court the satisfaction of thinking that they did a good thing by sending a terrible drug user behind bars.

i would much rather take the 6month probation that im on now than spend 3-15 days in jail. it is your choice to do other drugs while on probation because they dont show up in piss tests, but you dont have to. you ould stay clean, and once you get off, smoke and have that magically moment cause you missed it so much.

Well then probation does work. It's not "fun" but it's not supposed to be either. Felonies are serious, why didn't you think of that at the time? You said you had "a few oz's" right? Maybethe cop would have just dumped the pot if had been less but again, that was your choice too and you'll have to live with the consequences of your choices. That's life, sorry. Since you were 17 maybe things can be sealed at a point in time.

I never said you did poorly in school, I asked if you would have done better? On the UP side, felony or not, there are still schools that will accept you but not all. You never answered if all the drugs/booze/etc were worth it?

I'm glad you see it as a chance and I hope you go to college, even if it's not Yale but you say you're not going to fuck it up but in your first post you said you were doing a bunch of other shit that, if you get caught, will be a major fuck up. Nobody ever thinks they will get caught, jails are full of them. You're an adult now, it's your choice, so I'm not going to tell you to quit or toke on. Like I said, they're your choices and, ultimately, you can only blame yourself for the choices you make. I make my choices and I accept responsibility for those choices, right or wrong. I've been on probation but I never got busted violating it. I hope you don't give them the satisfaction either.

I've been on diversion/probation for a lonng time, and I've been to jail (juvenile detention) for 9 days, and I'd MUCHH rather just spent two weeks in jail and get it over with than spend 9 months on probation.
