When I was stationed at Great Lakes navy base,up at Chicago,I found out real quick, that most yankee's think that saying Howdy and smiling,is just some kind of a suspicious thing..lol..they looked at me like I was fixin to rob em or something. Although, the waitresses in the cafes there, did seem to appreciate a friendly greetin..once they realized that I was sincere. I reckon that they were used to dealin with sour-faced yankees who only complain and make snide remarks.
Have a good one !

Are y'all Brits saying that if I pass someone on the street there, that they'd act like yankees and think that I'm up to no good - if I said Howdy and nodded my head at em ?

er....people would prolly wonder why ur sayin hey to a total stranger here yeh lol people can be wound up pretty tight in the UK
Hi Torog, I think if you said "howdy" to a passer by they would just think it's a bit unusual, as if someone from over here were to say somthing like " aye aye fit liken the day" or "Awrite mate?" you would probable think "what?" but not in a bad way if you know what I mean. :rasta:Quote:
