Well, the Bible is such a tricky thing because in some parts it does promote love and peace, and if you just want to look at those parts that's good I guess. But in other parts it promotes sexism, slavery, and other things which directly contradict the principle of treating your fellow man as you would like to be treated. If you take the Bible seriously you can't just gloss over those parts.
If you ask me, we should just use respect and logic to form our moral codes, instead of relying on an ancient text of fictional stories. Anyone who cares about others can clearly see that being peaceful and loving is good, and that being sexist and owning slaves is bad. We don't need mythology to tell us this stuff. And as long as the Bible is still promoted as a source of morals, sexism and slavery is being promoted as well, even if you don't intend it because you personally ignore those parts.
