Pro-Cannabis Bumper Stickers
Nobody ever said that those who use bumper stickers must only use bumper stickers. +lol+ Some people don't engage in any kind of activism at all... so, for them, bumper stickers are an improvement.
Other people do engage in different kinds of activism and, for them, bumper stickers are just a novelty.
Look, they're better than doing nothing, so what's the problem? You've explained why they don't do much good, so now explain how they can do harm.
Pro-Cannabis Bumper Stickers
Say you've got weed in your car, and somebody hits you from behind-- it's not even your fault, you weren't speeding or anything so it's not your fault but a cop is called down. He arrives at the scene and notices you have pro-cannabis bumper stickers on your car. Even if it's not your fault, the thought of a DUI arises and your more prone to a search as opposed to somebody who didn't have the sticker on.
Look, expressing your beliefs is extremely important, but a weed bumper sticker just raises a red flag. Officers are still people, and wouldn't you be more inclined to search a car sporting drug-advocating slogans?
But that's an extreme example and chances are, things like that won't happen. The problem isn't that it's harmful, the problem is that it doesn't benefit the cause. Telling people at a red light how you feel makes you seem like an imposing person. If you truly want change, you need to get involved with real activism-- bumper stickers not only deter people from your cause, it increases your odds of a search. It might even be probable cause.

Okay I just took about five hits and I haven't smoked in about a month, so i'm totally high right now but I completely see your point.
Like you said, that might have been an extreme example, but I can see how it would add to the risk of being searched, or at least highten a suspicion that's already there. But I don't know, maybe some people just don't mind taking that risk. And if you're clever enough to never drive while stoned then that risk is minimised. I thought the word was minimilised. +lol+ I don't know which one's real and it took me ages to type both of them! :D
Anyway, I guess I can see how they're not a very effective as a method of activism. You've convinced me. But it still doesn't mean that using them will have any negative effects... Like I said earlier, maybe they don't do any good, per se, but unless you like to drive high or carry alot of weed in the car, then I don't see how they can do any harm... So why not? It obviously is an okay form of advertising because garages and radio stations (over here, anyway) give out bumper stickers with their logo on.
Anyway, zooted999, i've never spoken to you on these boards before. You're relatively new, and you seem pretty cool.. so I don't wanna start off on the wrong foot, you know? 'Cause if you stick around I don't want their to be bad vibes and stuff, so i'm GHoSToKeR, nice to meet you! I haven't been high for about 28 days and now i'm blazed! Welcome aboard! lol :)

How many people who *no longer live with their parents* think bumper stickers are a good idea?
Why give a cop a reason to pull you over? If you want to make a difference, go write to your legislators. Start an activism group and get public policy changed. Write a letter to your local paper. Do some research and present the facts to as many people as possible FACE TO FACE. Anonymity will only get you so far.

Why can't somebody do all that and put a fucking bumper sticker on their car? Why do these activities have to be mutually exclusive?

Nothing is gained from the bumper sticker. Let me put it this way, if you don't like George W, is a bumper sticker going to change your mind?
Pro-Cannabis Bumper Stickers
Nope, but i'll know that the person with the bumper sticker is a Bush supporter. Like I said, think of it as waving our flag...
