Ok, depends on the size of the bud, and if there were big holes between the bud and the pipe, you may have been pulling in mostly clean air. Also if the bud is too dense you might have not even been lighting ANY of the inside of the bud. The thc is everywhere in there, so breaking up a little is a good thing. Black crust is ash weed, but if thats all there was, than underneath was quality stuff worth hitting. Also ALWAYS clean out the bowl after a smoke. You don't have to scrape it clean but don't leave bud in there, it just gets gross as hell.

Ok, you want to breathe from the bottom of your lungs and slowly fill them. If you think about filling your LUNGS you should do fine. Most people who toke incorrectly just pull it into their mouth using there tounge for suction. Just pull from your diaphram and you should be set. Also hold the smoke in for a few seconds (3-5) so the thc has time to be absorbed into your lungs.

If your not sure, either you had a very mild experience or you had placebo effects. Again, 1 bud depends on the size of the bud, and the quality, your tolerance etc.

Ok, there is much dispute over purple haze, and as such I simply assume when someone is talking about purple haze that it is simply good weed with purple hairs.

Again... slimey, don't think I would smoke it. Possibly by milky you mean full of crystals or trichomes. These are where the thc hides. The more thrichomes the bud has the higher thc content and it follows the higher you will get from the same "amount" of weed. There are of coarse other factors like the type of high you will have, taste etc, but generally speaking you want weed covered in trichomes.
