if any of you have READ Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, he talks about doing Amyls ALOT beacuse of the upper effect. At one pointin time, amyls were apparently prescribed for some kind of heart condition beacuse Raoul and Dr. Gonzo stop at a drug store and buy them using the excuse of having a bad heart. Also, In the movie it shows them doing amyls in the car when they pull over in the desert at the beginning of the movie.
