Approximately equal parts boric acid and sugar cookie dough mix appears to have fixed the ant problem. I put a couple tablespoons of the mixture into three amber glass bottles (the kind nutritional supplements come in) and laid the bottles on their sides in the dirt in the problem areas. Either that batch of ants died off, or they moved. My feet are grateful!
There have been a couple more good rains. Crazy, what a difference it makes when irrigation comes in the form of rain. The plants grow so much better. I've read that the presence of hydrogen peroxide in rainwater is what makes the difference. Thoughts, anyone?
Plants are looking right on the verge of showing sexual preference. Angelina is being a show-off. She doesn't get quite as much direct sun as the others, which I thought would slow her growth. It appears to have the opposite effect. But she's also the one who didn't experience any transplant shock. ... So here's a photo of one of her fan leaves... along with the usual lineup: Oprah, Sophia (who really looks like two plants now, then Angelina and finally Dolly.
...those are some thrivin' lil' girls you got there!
How's the ant problem coming along? Have they picked up and moved off yet? I know that there is room in G_d's ecosystem for everyone, but some bugz are NOT welcome on my plants, and even less welcome on my person :)
You should have a good harvest :)

I'm soooo glad that the fix worked for ya! I don't personally begrudge any of Gh+d's creatures, but I take exception when they try to harm me... and if they can't be reasoned with....
You have some lovely plants there, deserthealer... but I'm a little intrigued as to the title of the thread... If you are actually a 'granny', you're my kinda 'granny', and I'd love ta buy ya a beer or coffee sometime, locale permitting :)
Wishing you a bumper crop!
Many thanks, m'dear! I am indeed a granny. My "kids" are in their twenties and thirties, and a coupla them have kiddos ranging from 5 to 14. (Blows me away, it does!) I think that prolly makes me an old hippie :) :hippy:Quote:

Usually I wait til the sun has dropped down to take pictures, as it's just so durn bright... but had to make an exception ...
Here's Dolly and a friend, and then a couple shots of Angelina. The closeup of Angelina shows the first pistils I've found on her
