The plants are alive. They look like hell though. They have brown spots all over every leaf except for the new growth at the very top, and many of the tips are brown and curling up (or down). I'm not going to worry about ph or nutrient problems at this point. I'm guessing the plants are just extremely stressed out from what they've been through. Does that sound right? Every leaf was probably very damaged as they got tossed around and buried in the brier patch.
I believe the two surviving plants are both afghans, by the way. As the plants grew I noticed the afghan leaves were twice as fat as the other strains' leaves (you can see for yourself in the last set of pictures), and both the survivors have the fatter leaves. I'm happy about that, because the main reason I grew this year was to be able to try some indica. Hopefully they'll live and one will turn out female. Though with all this stress, perhaps I'm destined for the same fate as last year... the few survivors of the season will all turn out male.
Say a prayer for my plants please!

From looking at your pics I see you are using green pots. If its hot where you are and those pots are getting direct sunlight, they are heating up the soil and cooking your roots. That's what I had happen to me so I have a little experience with this one.
As far as Miracle grow goes... after a month or two the nutrient levels in the soil are depleted quite a bit (not completely but still they're lower) so I would go with the heat thing.
Just keep an eye on your babies and see how they look. They'll tell you if something is bothering them by the leaf structure and color. If they're green and happy leave it alone, nature knows better than we do ;) Also, I know how tempting it is to wanna feed the crap outta those babies, but you should just be patient and watch your plants carefully... they'll let you know if they need food.
I hope this helps my friend! Good luck and a great harvest to you!!!

Hey,
Here is an update on my two surviving plants (with some pics) and some questions. I believe they are both Afghans. They are about 18" tall or so. I moved them into 3 gallon pots on July 16 (a week and a half ago) along with some more of the 5-5-5 fertilizer mixed into the soil and sprinkled heartily on top. They are in the new, more secluded grow area. I used around 20-30% perlite and put some extra holes in the pot (like yous said, stinky). It still may not be enough though, as the soil is staying quite moist even though I haven't watered them once (we've had 2 or 3 rain showers). There is even some algae looking stuff growing on top of the soil.
I'm considering putting them in the ground to see if that helps the drainage (and also to give their roots plenty of room). If I did that should I use perlite? Or does the ground just drain better regardless? Or do you think I'd be better just sticking with pots and moving up to 5 gallon pots in a couple weeks?
The plants look *a lot* better. You can see how rough the bottom set of leaves looks. The whole plant looked like that 3 weeks ago... all the leaves were brown and yellow and had holes in them. Remember, most of my plants were blown/washed away in a severe thunderstorm and I found these two survivors wrapped up under a brier bush downstream two days later. So I am very happy they are doing well.
If one of these turns out female I'll be overjoyed. These are the last of the seeds I had from an order two years ago. I've never had indica, and last year all plants were males... so I really want this to work out.
Both plants have what looks like the beginnings of new branches at the nodes (especially visible in the shot taken such that you have to cock your head to the right to look at it). But one also has some white hairs there too (not the one in the side shot). Its probably just me getting my hopes up I suppose. I would think it is too early to tell sex. I tried to take a picture of it, but my hand was shaking too much and it was blurry.
The picture taken on the side also shows the leave damage at the bottom, and also shows how less full the plants seem when looked at from another angle. All the leaves are facing the west, where the plants generally get the most light from. I figure I'll just leave them facing that direction since the plant is adapting to that positioning.... I figure in nature the plants don't get moved around much, you know?
God bless!

One more question... considering I top fed with the NPK 5-5-5 granules a week and a half ago (and mixed it into the new pot) and the plants don't look overfed, I'm thinking about getting NPK 10-2-2 or something like that to feed them to help the vegetative growth even more.
Do you think they look good enough to stick to the NPK 5-5-5, or should I load up the N and see if they take off even more?
(When I'm sure they are flowering I plan on hitting them with some bat guano which has high P, supposedly).

<<Do you have any advice concerning what I should do about this? Should I purchase some insecticide soap or something? Or some Sevin?>>
Check out my bug fix- She showed up about 8 weeks ago as a tiny white baby.. Now she has grown.. and turned green/red.. here is a pic of her eating some poor bug that landed in 'her' paradise... :) She's soooo rad... Don't know what I'll do w/her when harvest time comes..
Sky
p.s. they are sold at the stores.. Home Depot/Lowes.. etc.. They come in a container.. But they are in egg sacks I think, that you put on your plant.. and they hatch.. good luck!

Very cool, Sky. I'm going to look into that. I suppose she is a praying mantis, is that right?

I checked the plants yesterday... both the plants seem to be showing signs of being female. Yes! Check out the pictures; what do you think? I've never had a female before, so I'm not sure, but they sure do look the part to me.
I was hoping for one male and one female to pollinate this season because this was my last batch of seeds and I get nervous about ordering seeds. But I can't complain if they're both females... it's better then all males like last year! Besides, at the rate I smoke two females would probably produce years worth of bud for me anyway.

Strange things keep happening at my grow sites. At my starter site, if you recall, I mysteriously had paper towels start showing up near where I stashed my nutes and water. I assumed it was an animal that dragged them out of nearby trash cans, but I got the hell out of dodge anyway (not before a thunderstorm wiped out 5 of my 7 plants, but that's another story).
Now my plants are in my finishing site, which is a good half mile hike through woods (bushwacking, there are no trails) and then a good 50 yards into thick, dense swamp that any sane person would have to use waders to get through. Still, the other day it seems someone got back there and broke my walking stick.
You see, I use a lightweight walking stick to get through the woods (to knock down spider webs with, primarily) and a heavier stick to get through the swamp (to help me balance and to fend off the occasional rattlesnake or water moccasin). I leave the heavy "swamp" stick leaning against a particular tree at the edge of the swamp a ways down from where I enter the swamp. I leave it that way partially to see if anyone else goes back there... because most people would grab it if they saw it... it is just one of those sticks that feels good to hold.
Well, when I went back a couple days ago the stick was lying on the ground with the end broken off. I chose that stick precisely because of the good end it had (with the slight "Y" or fork that is good for trapping snake's heads). The stick was not rotten at all and was quite strong actually. The only way I can think it broke is if someone broke it intentionally... which is a bit nerve racking.
I have a hunting camera focused on my plants that takes pictures in the daytime or at night (with an invisible infrared flash) if anything moves around them. No one has been near my plants. But it definitely seems someone has been at least to the edge of the swamp.
It's just weird... I wouldn't expect anyone to be back there at all. You can't see my plants from that spot, but it is still too close for comfort.
(that's the stick in the pic, and, yes, a bottle of pee. It keeps the deer and rabbits away)

It could be swamp ninjas... You never know what lurks about in the woods.
Is your camera easily seen, or obvious?

Yeah, who knows. Some bear probably used it to scratch his ass.
In order to see my camera you basically have to get in view of it (and get pictured), unless you came from behind. But behind isn't the natural way to walk through that area... the swamp gets really nasty back there. The camera just gives me a little piece of mind I guess.
To be honest, the main thing I use the camera for is to survey my grow supplies during the winter and fall hunting seasons. I leave them in a camouflaged rubber maid box about 500 yards from my grow spot all year long. I have a policy of absolutely no grow supplies on my property, b/c in my state the cops take whatever property was in any way related to growing or grow supplies if you get busted growing.
Anyway, if some hunter discovered my supplies I'd want to know and change spots. I'm not worried so much about someone discovering my actual grow. In the end, if my plants were spotted, the cops would care less if I filmed them ripping them up. But in the rare event that they left the plants to try to catch me, I would know from the camera I guess....
