I'd take the money no hesitation what so ever. Fortune favors the bold. Don't go out of your way to intentionally screw someone, but if the opportunity it there to get gain, you have to go for it. Besides it'd be terminally stupid to lose 40k in cash.

I do agree with you but it IS a fantasy question.
I imagined finding 40,000 in cash, in a brown paper bag, behind a bush. and if that ever happend, i would keep it. people that "need" money don't keep it in cash and in a paper bag.
but now that i think of it, maybe it's someones cash from their house that someone stole. well, even still, it was probably a drug dealer since not a lot of "legit" people have 40 grand cash.

I would take a fee and return it. I would probably take like $10k and turn it into the police or something. Depends on the circumstances tho you know.
