I agree I did just leave at 16 and actually left on greyhound from ny to ca spent 6 months working and living on my own there until I was considered a resident of ca and could live on my own there and was sent back to ny were I continued on my own in HS graduated after having a kid and still to this day haven't lived with or off of my parents at all for the last 7 years. Sorry for the double post but that post was to BS just because you personally weren't/aren't able to move out or handle it doesn't mean people can't and don't I know many people who have. It takes a strong capable person and the situation to push them there usually but it does happen and a lot of people do it so to insult and not believe people who did and succeeded is just low.

I'm 20 and I dont live at home but my parents still pay for my share of the rent. I pay for food and other bills. My brothers school was much more expensive than mine so they're making up part of the difference by helping me out. I am very thankful that my parents were able to save enough money to provide for both my brother and myself. I'm going to be at least partially financially dependent on my parents for at least 2 more years. I'm still not sure how I'm going to pay for things while I'm in grad school, but I have a very financially stable boyfriend who by that point may be more than a boyfriend.

I moved out at about 20 to rents with ma girl and our daughter to be... and currently am trying to buy a place of our own! :eek:

Was 22 when I left home and moved to an other country. I would say age does not really matter it if you are ready or not that does. each person and there situations are different.

18. I got out, worked my ass off, and sold my stocks. I'd say 22 is the max before you're officially a loser or a mama's boy, or you have to stay to help them.

Im 18 moved out in the begging of aug.
I love not living at home. so much freedom, so much less stress. working sucks but i actually am starting to have a decent relationship with my parents. i am finally not feeling THAT depressed for the first time in my life
it sort of suckes thoguh bc my bf -now ex bf- left me for college, and so did all of my friends. one of my bff's went into the army and the other went to jail. what can u do thoguh . i sitll know some people but i miss my old social life.
plus now i get too messed up too often. but im gonna stop that

moved out at 18, not because i felt like i was ready to live on my own, but because i couldn't stand living with my mother. growing up was rather.........let's see, how shall i put this........shitty. my safety was in jeopardy living there. so i ended up living with my grandma, then with my boyfriend at the time, then back home for a lil bit, and here i am, living with my boyfriend.

now, if i had a normal family, i would still be living at home because i'm going to school. i would stay at home til i was finished with school. i know how hard it is to live on your own; going to work and school at the same time would really suck, and i would probably just end up dropping out of school and spending all my time working to pay my bills, and then MAYBE going back to school in the future. i wouldn't want that for myself, so i would've just stayed with my mom til i knew i was financially secured and mentally prepare to live on my own. luckily for me the only bill i have right now is my phone bill. my boyfriend pays for everything here.

so yeah, to sum it up, don't feel bad for living at home. many people do it, and yeah it sucks having to listen to mom and/or dad for the time being, but they usually ease up as you get older, especially if they start to see that you're trying to do better for yourself, and aren't staying there simply because you want to be a lazy fuck. :]

Well, just realize that while many of us might have moved out physically, being financially on our own was another matter. That definitely came later for lots of us who responded. In our economy these days, it's harder and harder to be financially on your own as a young person.

If most parents are like us (I'm not sure they are), their kids are welcome at home. Home's where you're welcome and loved. But I know it cramps your style when you want to be out and free of scrutiny and on your own. I read a parenting article the other day that said the after-25 years were the more common ages now for most adult children to have attained enough income and stability to support themselves. The article didn't make a distinction for adult kids with college degree and those without. Try and be patient with yourself and your living situation. At least you have a place to be!!

Very good point birdgirl. You help out a lot of us more then I think you know.
