I don't know of any specific evidence, but I have always heard aluminum foil should be avoided for smoking and uncoated aluminum cookware should also be avoided for cooking. Most aluminum cans are now coated on the indide to prevent aluminum from disolving into drinks, but I would imagine that coating (and also the paint on the outside of the can) could vaporize while smoking and cause you harm --- a different kind of harm than the aluminum.
It doesn't take that much to invest in a decent glass ceramic or wood piece, or to buy papers, so why mess around with these toxic aluminum things?
