IMO American football (how can it be football when your holding the ball most of the time?) is a lame version of Rugby.
The only real football is what the Americans call soccer.

i like both footballs and think people need to stop putting so much stock in labels. that is all, absolutely all they have in common, pretend like they are called different things. please dont say football players are just musclebound freaks with no talent. and if you are, please dont say lung capacity and endurance takes more talent than strength, neither take talent, both take effort. as for the sports, both take talent and effort. just let it go, soccer is more popular in europe football is more popular here. neither side is going to convince the other. so just get along and make peace.

It all started over my sarcastic thread title sadly. I wasn't even trying to widen the gap between euro-american relations.

My college team is Florida state wait what? hear that Tomahawk chop chant bitche's...actually i dont have much room to talk they have gone down hill since last years orange bowl defeat to penn state by 3 fucking points, and at the moment there kind of rebuilding.
and my Pro team is jacksonville jaguars there o.k.
anyone else think college is better?, i mean college players actually have something to aim for and the pro's just rake that bread and dont even play hard.
-
Football, and I mean real football not that lame european version
i think most pro players play hard, the money is there incentive to do that because the better they play the more they make, and in the nfl the contracts arent guarenteed in anyway so they cant just sign a nice long term deal and slack off, or they rrisk getting cut or a contract change. had you been talking about the nba, that might have work. so try again. feel free to like college better but i dont know where you pulled pro players dont play hard, terell owens doesnt represent the entire nfl.

i stand by my comment, its gonna be a blow out with florida on top 68-21... i live in ohio and im still a gator fan. Theres no way OSU is gonna do anything against the gator defense... OSU may be #1.. in negative yardage. Im not gonna lie i see ohio state winning by -40 :p
-
Football, and I mean real football not that lame european version
God damn, vegas has us at -40? So the gators are 40 point dogs huh...Idunno I might have to go with the gators with my money cause I see Ohio State winning a blow out, but not by 40 points. I stand by my earlier claim 44-17. Also my Saints Chargers super bowl pick at the midway point in the season is looking mighty good after my saints trounced big D in Dallas.
Also, college is MUCH better than pro IMHO. I visited a couple friends in Talahassee on my way home earlier this fall and had a chance to go to the FSU-BC game. Lemme say this, I have been to a lot of college football games at various different venues. The student section was awesome, but all the other fans were some of the worst, most lackidasical fans ever.
I do like the architecture of the Doak, very cool, and Indian Village is one of the coolest party's I have been too. I wish Ohio State had a student housing complex that close to the stadium. FSU is an awesome campus, much nicer than gainseville. I have been to both, and Talahassee reminds me more of OU in Athens, Ohio than it does a Florida school.

there is no way they are going to keep them at 40 point underdogs that is going to change a lot considering the game isnt for 3 weeks or soand on a regular week they update the spread about three or four times throughout the course of the week before its at the final

football or soccer as you Americans call it is a bloody good sport unlike your American football that stops every second so the players can get a rest since they are all overwieght.
huffing puffing.
as for the rules well throw the ball a couple of yards on have a group hug .
now soccer there you can see talent as poetry in motion.
plus you are only enviuos because your south American cousins are better at soccer than you are.:smokin:

Overweight are you dumb? football players are in the best possible shape anyone could be in except the offensive line.

Been playing football for about 4 years now, play guard and DT at university level.
Most of the comments you get from Brits talking about football is that its boring being too stop start and that its rugby for nancies. But the breaks allow for a much deeper strategic element and as for wearing pads, it means you can hit harder. I'd describe rugby as a contact sport while football is an impact sport.
As for my team I'm a die hard Raider, just a shame about this year. Still with this years D and hopefully some pickups for the offensive line, some coaching changes and a decent draft I'm hopeful we might get towards a .500 season next year.

I used to play football in high school as a linebacker but never actually got to get on the field in highschool. The guy above me on the depthchart's mom was fucking the coach (no lie.)
I was actually good at one point, but I didn't feel like doing all the work for 2nd string and the other two backers were better than me so no chance in beating them out. I didn't feel like working to hard when chances were I would be on second string, so I quit before my junior season.
I loved little league though and still play NCAA Football on the PS2.

Dude, if you haven't noticed we don't give two fucks about soccer. We have football, basketball, lacrosse, hockey, baseball, and the alternative sports like skateboarding, wakeboarding, etc, and many others that are much more popular. There is a reason most kids play soccer in kindergarten and 1st grade and even 2nd grade. Because it is the only sport they are coordinated enough to play. Once you get to 2nd grade you can enter pee-wee football, and start hittin' people. Football is a collision sport, basketball is a contact sport. Football is a lesson in physics.
The truth is a soccer player wouldn't last a day in the league. It is not because he doesn't know the game either, it's because they are far superior athletes. Antonio Gates played basketball in college not football, but he is such a good athlete he got put at tight end, learned the system, and is arguably the best in the league at his position. Football takes a high intelligence and fast decision making skills. Soccer takes....does it take intelligence? There ain't too many rules, plays, formations, so idunno...
the pot continues to stir itself.

Oh yeah artard that thing you call a "rest" is the part of the game when they fucking call a play, damn your stupid.

Once upon a time I was an All-state D-End. I was a second team allstate Full-Back. The last time I played was in the state all-star game, called the Shrine Bowl. Unfortunatly I got hurt my senior year lost my scholarships and have never looked back at football. I cant even watch it really because some of the hits make me cringe. Ive thought about coaching someday, but we'll see.

Maybe if the US werent so shit at, soccer, football maybe they'd enjoy it more.
American footballers get so padded up its stupid, try rugby.
Baseball however is awesome.
Some sports need talent I dont think american football has any. I think the same with rugby but at least they have bigger balls too not go out covered in pillows and helmets.
You know whats really good though pool and snooker.

You have obviously never paid attention to football or your just not too bright. Football has the highest injury rate than any sport. And you should try one of those "pillows" on and go head to head with a 250 lb man who literall wants to hurt you as bad as he can. Dont be ignorant.

Haha, umm, dude, please don't be throwing out "most ignorant post ever" awards when you say shit like this. PLEASE PLEASE stop, it's killing me. I'll try and give you some facts, though it's clear you'll ignore them with that closed mind of yours.
I'm not saying football doesn't take intelligence, but DUDE, every play is pre-determined. Maybe an audible here and there, but more often than not, it's in some playbook. The only "fast" decisions to be made are WHAT PLAY TO CALL NEXT. And maybe which way to throw a fake after a catch, left or right. Tough stuff eh?
Soccer, played at the highest levels, takes lightning fast reactions, and to quote you, "fast decision making skills." Guys are coming at you so fast you have 1-2 sec. TOPS to do something with the ball. It's just 11 guys knocking a ball around, no chains to move up the field, and no seperate teams for defense and offense. There are NO playbooks, therefore your statement is oh so flawed. The best players in the world have amazing field vision, and can slot the ball wherever they please. Now I know you'll say QB's do too, and that's true to an extent, but that's only up and down the field, whereas a soccer player has 360 degrees and a much larger playing field to make plays.
It's a FREE game, fluid in motion. None of this stop-and-start, 3-and-out-time-to-take-a-rest, football.
Now I'm not saying football doesn't take either of those things you mentioned, but failing to realize the ignorance of your own post troubles me. Both require different types of those qualities. Seeing Hester run in those 2 kickoffs for TD's Monday night was amazing. The dude has some serious wheels.
I appreciate both sports for what they are, but I also know when to not make an ass of myself. You, however, need to learn my friend. ~
