To say we only have a shortish growing season and not a deal of sunshine (we didn't that year) over here they grew pretty well ;)
In 1998 I bought the lamp for indoor growing and since then I have grown 2 or 3 crops a year. I did have a crop fail a while ago because the light bulbs were just worn out with age ..................

So I've probably grown somewhere around 17+/- indoor crops over the last 7 years.
love mand xxx :)
ahh haaa  you see you have been being entirely too modest about your growing ability(lol) :D Couldn't check the boards without sayin hi to ya's. Your grow is looking top shelf.
So how you like those switchable bulb ballast ? they worth it? I would think they are a good thing.
I'm Sort of caught in the limbo of between grows myself. Finding out it can be a bit confusing. trying to finish late starters and trying to reveg and stuff (of course the theives didn't help) but learning its alot simpler to just end one and start anew. developing a perpetual growing schedule will not be all that easy I suppose but thats what I would like to establish eventually.
Got some new babies from seed and looks like my revegged plants are doing great , going to use them to start cloning. I do have a couple clones I started out of desperation when my grow got mangled but they are a bit on the scrawny side so I guess I will keep them in veg phase until my new babies are ready to flower and put them all in flower togeather. :D
here I am rattling on, hope all is well

Just a little journal............
Hello Bill :) I'm pleased to hear that everything is coming on nicely from the set back that you had ;)
The switchable bulb ballast ?........... Well I was always told and read that it was the best one to get, so that's what I did and it does seem to be a good set up. Mind you I've never tried any of the other set up's so I don't know if they would be any better
I'll stick with mine anyway ;)
It's good to hear from you Bill :) , I'm affraid I've been kinda busy here this last few days so I've not been able to get on line very much.
I'm just going to add a couple more pics showing the new growth from the pinching (topping), I think know that it can really be seen how the two diagonal stems are growing to make two new main stems.
love mand xxx :)
-
Just a little journal............
Hiya mand
Lookin good !! they`ve grown loads even since you topped em and they still lookin very healthy.
Have any started to show sex at all yet?? Was just wondering how many fems u might have there???
i`ve got 4 growin at the mo and 2 of them are showin female sex already and i havn`t even started 12/12 yet.
One of them was showin female pre-flowers and tiny pistils at 5 weeks!! :D
i`m gonna start them on 12/12 in a few weeks and i`ll take ur advice about topping them a week beforehand as u say u get more bud - makes sense really as u`ve got 2 stems to bud instead of one ;)
i had a small problem with orange spots and a few yellowing leaves but i sprayed them with epsum salts and that seems to have sorted the problem( magnesium deficiency so i was told on here -- Thankyou guys)
Oh by the way i`ve got some horse shit aswell now!! hahaha works wonders don`t it. ;)
i`ll post a few pics very soon on my own thread
been great to follow ur grow and good luck agen with the fem/male ratio :D

Just a little journal............
Hello Digi :) How many females ?............ well usually out of 16 plants (one packet of seeds) I average about 9 females....................I can't say thats how it will be that's only the average ;)
I have noticed one with two Pre - pubescent buds on, very tiny little pitsels at one of the nodes. This usually indicates that there is a good chance it will be female but the plant looks very male to me, tall and very stong and healthy. Usually the females tend to be my smaller plants with a more bushy look about them.....................anyway time will tell ;)
I've always found that pinching does increase the yeild, I wouldn't say it doubles it or anything like that but it definetely produces more. Try it Digi and I'm sure you will be pleased with the results :)
Yes post some more pics soon, they looked super on the last ones, it will be nice to see their progress :)
love mand xxx :)
-
Just a little journal............
Hey Mand .... They do look marvelous, good to see your grow progress. I have two 1k hps and a 400MH for veg. Would have been nice to have my 400 MH a switchable . From the prices I checked there isn't a great deal of additional expense other than buying the extra bulb but even that isn't an additional cost in the long run due to the longevity of the bulb not using them both all the time , aye?
Are you able to get the lights close enough to the plants to avoid stretching ....LOL :D just teasing ya.
peace :smokin:

Just a little journal............
So hows the growing going Mand. So how did your plans turn out for the weekend?
-
Just a little journal............
Hello Bill :) , Hello B :)
Well I've not really had much time for anything just lately...........a little something called work that kinda crops up now and again to upset my plans :(
Now if I could just find that rich guy so I could pack in the work nonsense all together ;)
Everything seems to be going ok, I think that some of the boys are begining to show themselves.
I've tried to do a pic of the female pre pubescent buds, I'm not sure if you can make out the little pitsels just next to the node from the pic ;)
The other pics are just a general ones to show the mess in there, it will look a bit neater when I get rid of the boys and have a little more space.
love mand xxx :)
Oh I tried to get a pic of the suspected boys but they didn't turn out very well..................I'll try again later but at the moment affraid I have babysitting duties.................my grandson ;) :)

Just a little journal............
Hello PP :) They are 7 weeks and a couple of days. I don't usually induce this early but they have grown very well and I'm trying to get them finished before the real winter weather gets here ;)
After this crop I think I may have a break from growing till about April when the frosts have ended....................then again I've said that before and grew again straight away :o
love mand xxx :)
-
Just a little journal............
Ok..!:)
They are looking goood!
cheers!:)
-
Just a little journal............
How do you deal with the security and smell??
-
Just a little journal............
Hello FP :) Well the growroom is slightly away from the house and is not overlooked by the neighbours, so there's no problem about them seeing anything. As for the smell, I think it's too far away from the nearest neighbours to smell anything.
A little confession here ;) ......... I have no idea what Cannabis smells like, I have no sense of smell whatsoever, never have had :(
However when the buds are very resinous I can taste something in the air, but actually smell it affraid not.

Just a little journal............
Hello :) Well I've got a little problem :(
I have said before that growing this time of year I have no worries about humidity..........................well just to prove me wrong, I've got a problem with it :o :)
It's due to the weather we are having, it keeps raining raining and more raining, add to this very mild weather and it is causing lots of condensation in my growroom :(
Ah well I hope the weather changes soon ;)
The first of the two pics is the celling of my growroom, it's quite damp, and it keeps raining on the plants :o
Never mind I'm sure it will turn out ok...............I hope ;)
Bye for now, love mand xxx :)
-
Just a little journal............
mmmmmmm!!
U do seem to be getting quite a bit of water raining down on them there!!!
Not good for the plants really and certainly not good for ur electrics!!!!
Without seeing the room u have there i`m a bit at a loss as to what to suggest.
Do you have any ventilation to the outside?? Generally condensation that bad will only occur if u have heat in a room and no air venting to the outside -- I know cos i live in the uk and i also work on houses so i know about the problems of condensation.
You somehow need to vent air outside - even if it`s just through a few air -bricks or something.
Basically your HPS bulb is heating the air (which contains quite an amazing amount of water in our climate ) the water vapour rises and cools as it reaches your ceiling -it condenses there and there`s ur problem.
If you had some airflow into another room or idealy outside this wouldn`t happen.
If u can`t vent the air outside of ur grow room then the only other thing i could think of is putting a de-humidifier in there which takes all the h2o out of the air
Way my thinkin goes anyway!!!
Good luck and be careful with them electrics ok!!!
Water and electric!!!!!! Very dangerous!!!!!

Just a little journal............
Hello Digi :) Well it's stopped raining so far today and it's drying up outside so I've opened the growroom door, that should help ;)
I've had little bits of condensation before but never this bad.
Oh I've put an old tin tray on top of the ballast thingy to keep the water off it ;)
Plants seem to be doing ok though, I've spotted a couple of males, I'll give them a day or two longer just so I am positive. Also there are a couple of females showing already, it's usually the males first but I have known early females before.
I'm sure everything will be ok with the weather changing :)
As for the air brick idea, well my sons are builders, one of my brothers is a builder and I know theres a few more in the family so I should be able to get someone to fit one for me ;)
Thanks Digi...................love mand xxx :)

Just a little journal............
Hello :) Right one more little update then I'll shut up for a while..............promise ;)
I knew at the begining that doing a journal type thing was a really bad idea................it's just tempting fate too much for something to go wrong :o
I can see little a few droppy leaves :( ...........Why do I have the feeling this crop is going to be a disaster :o
The first pic is of some male flowers, the second is one of female flowers and the third pic is one showing droppy leaves :(
love mand xxx :)
Oh you might not be able to fully make out the female pitsels, but they are there ..........honest ;)

well, if they want to smoke anymore of that pot...Perhaps, you could persuade them to finish off your grow-room, by holding your "Buds" for ransom...lol :p

Hello Latewood :) I bet I do grow straight away again, it's so true what you say, keeping a well stocked stash is very important ;)
As for them doing the air brick for me...............Oh they'll do has they are told or they will be be doing their own washing and cooking till it is done.....................I can be quite authoritive at times you know ;) :)
Now this present crop, I don't know it made a really good start but it looks kinda "limpish" to me at the moment :(
They are still growing and the flowers are starting to show. I've got rid of two males now and there are another two suspect. There are also I think four females showing now.
I'm wondering if the pots they are in maybe a little to small, the males were very very dense with roots..................I don't know I'll see how they go ;)
Oh and if I have any money left over after tommorrows shopping trip  I might just go to the market this Sunday to see what other seeds the chap has :)

Just a little journal............
Hello :)
Well I wasn't going to post an update for a while but I have a feeling that everything is not well :(
The problem is that the leaves are starting to look "limper" by the hour.
You know when anything like this happens, I just wish they would die off so I can start a new fresh lot ;)
feeling kinda sad :( .....................but these things happen ;)
love mand xxx :)

Just a little journal............
Youll probably have to wait for a more professional opinion, But I think they look great :D not that helps ofcourse... Maaaaaybe hmm lemme think no well OK only thing I can come up with is over watering and I'm sure youve thought of that already
-
Just a little journal............
Hi mand,
The pictures suggest that you may be dealing with Phosphorus problem. What medium are growing? How is your pH ? How is the grow rate of your plants ?
-
Just a little journal............
Hello Guys :)
The medium is my homemade compost, I've been using that for the last 6 - 7 years with no problems....................but theres always a first time ;)
The Ph value, well that's something I've never bothered about, I know it has something to do with the alkaline and acidity content of the soil but that's it really :o
The rate of growth has been quite phenominal, it is prehaps one of the fastest growing crops I've ever grown.
Over watering is a possibility, you see I have the little condensation problem I described on the last page of this thread, and since that started I've noticed the drooping.
So I've now got the growroom door wide open and a fan blowing in there to try to dry things out ;)
Thankyou guys for you're suggestions I really do appreciate it :)

Hey Mand, with good genetics, I have found that the roots grow much faster than schwagg...and I just re-potted 2 of my blues and they were borderline rootbound...I re-potted them and they grew an inch overnight...you can do it...I would...latewood
..no food or clean clothes...roflmao........

Just a little journal............
Hello Latewood :)
Firstly love you're going to have to bear with me on writting this as I am quite ..........well I've had a couple of joint's and it's going to take forever to write it :o
Firstly I don't think it's a nutrient deficany problem, I've never had that before. Also there in seperate pots and this is upseting all the plants, so I'm not convinced it is a nutrient problem ?.
They are definetely root bound in there pots, but then again they always are :o ...............I really should use bigger pots though ;) The next grow I'm going to grow fewer plants and in bigger pots :)
I think it's the condensation/humidity problem it's bad. Of course I made it worse I noticed the leaves drooping and I thought they were thirsty, so I watered them more :o . It's that bad that the door has swelled up so much I have to use a screwdriver to prise it open :(
Anyway I have the door open and a fan blowing in there despretely trying to dry the place out.
I really have never know it this bad before.
Oh dear that took some typing :stoned:
love mand xxx :)
Oh Latewood :) can you tell me what Schawgg is :o

Just a little journal............
excuse my french...shitweed!
-
Just a little journal............
I have a real good...Oh before I forget; you know I was answering your question. Not calling your plants shitweed, right? right!...
...Ok I have a real good option for you...I read this on a site called treatingyourself.com...
It is a mmj site/community-canada...anyway, one of their
Moderators; Pflover, replied in a thread about replanting...something along these lines...
Just lay an unopened bag of potting mix on it's side, slice an X in the middle,
the same diameter as your little pots, then take plant to be re-potted and
remove it from pot and set it in a hole I dugout in the opening of the bag.
Then scratch up the outer sides of the rootball and work into a nice mound.
Poke holes in the bottom of the bag water and watch her thrive...
I think this is good advice...In your case, Mand, I thought that this would be a simple remedy to your need for root growth...and your wetness problems.
Take your compost and put it in a heavy trashbag...tie it up...set it beside
plant to be repotted...cut hole in bag...scoop out enough to make a hole for
your baby, and set her in there. don't forget drainage. this wouldn't work for
everybody, but it sure could be a quick-save for you...
...the idea has got to be tried by somebody...latewood
-
Just a little journal............
Hello Latewood :)
I'm still trying to dry the place out, I have the door open and the fan blowing in there ;)
I like the sounds of what you suggest but I'm just going to give it a litle more time to grow as normal because I'm really tight for space.
I used to grow them in smaller pots than this  that's why I never worried about the roots.
Anyway like I said at the begining of this thread it's probably a bad idea to do a journal in case they all die.................. :( . It will be such a shame if that happens because up untill now it really has been one of the fastest grows I've ever done.
Well today I am just about to go out shopping :) , so Ill leave the door open and fan on and see what happens.
Thankyou Latewood ;) .........................love mand xxx :)

Just a little journal............
Hi Mand, I just wanted to say thanks for your postings on here. I'm new to growing and have been reading ALOT of the threads on this site. So many helpful people sharing, way cool! :pimp:
I'm on my second grow right now and find that I'm really pulled to your growing philosophy of keeping it simple. On the first gro I started with three seedlings, two died and the third turned out to be a male. With this gro I started with ten seedlings and only two died. They're in a rather small fish tank and maybe a bit crowded but if I cut the light back in another two weeks and remove the males I think I should be able to bend the remaining females around into the open spots and get some good secondary growth. I'm also using your stick idea and getting them use to the idea of bending in the direction that I belive I'm going to want them to go.
Any feedback that you or the other super growers on here could give me would be much appreciated.
The first pic is an overview of the tank, the second pic is of the "Baby Girl" she hasn't changed apperance in the two weeks these gals have been growing. I've sorta become attached to her and would like to see her make it. :o Any ideas?
-
Just a little journal............
Hello RoboGro :) It would be lovely to see them all make it this time love ;)
My main suggestion would be to carefully get them all into seperate pots.
Cannabis plants really have very exstensive roots and will become really entangled when grown in the same tub.
You don't mention what lights you are using, but then again I only really know anything about the one I use which is a 400 watt interchangable MH/HPS ballast. However there are lots of threads and posts on here about lights.
I am having a few problems here at the moment with droopy leaves :(
You see the thing is I'm not used to having growing problems, normally I just put them in the growroom and leave them to it ;) so when a problem arises I am kinda left a little puzzled by it. Although I do think it's due to the damp/humidity in there.
Anyway I have the fan on now and the growroom door open and they have not gotten any worse...............I just hope they start to pick up soon :o
I know that really I should follow Latewoods advice on re-potting them (or re-bagging them ;) ) but I'm just trying to hang on and see if they will recover without the extra work :o
Anyway RoboGro, give some thought about seperating them and keep posting about any questions you have, there are lots of people on here who can help with advice.
Oh, and keep us updated on how they are going on.
Good luck .........................love mand xxx :)
-
Just a little journal............
Hello :) Just a very very quick update ;)
Well the growroom is drying out, still a way to go yet though, I've held of watering the plants for the last 3 days...............shows how much I overwatered them :o
However they seem to be recovering now, just a few droopys remaining.
Up to now I have removed 3 males, there are a few not showing their sex yet but there a quite a few females :)
I'll just post some pics taken a little while ago............ ;)
love mand xxx :)
Oh the white bits on some of the leaves are where I dropped some plant food :o
-
Just a little journal............
My biggest concern is that they have been that wet for days...and they are in the perfect cycle to replant  ...Just egging you on a bit...hope it all works out, xoxo, :p latewood
ps...it wouldn't take 15 minutes...
signed by the committee  for drying up overly-damp/rained on marijuana plants :smokin:
-
Just a little journal............
Hello Latewood :) I absolutely agree with you love, now would be the ideal time to re pot them........................but I'm going to carry on as they are :o
Honestly love they will be fine............promise ;) .........I hope :o
I do dumb things from time to time you know ;) . I once had a really great big fully budded female and she started wilting really bad. Anyway I was really at a loss as to what was up with the thing, no matter whaat I did it would not recover :(
Then I noticed something, I used to tie them to the sticks with knots that wouldn't loosen, so the string was cutting into the stem, it was basicaly strangling the thing. So now I always make sure the knots will slip open with the growing :o
The thing is I am a very lazy grower, I want to grow Cannabis with as little effort and exspense as possible. So I'm just going to leave them as they are for now ;)
Thanks Latewood ....................love mand xxx :)

Mand, I come by and visit your grow thread when I'm finished stressing over my own details, just for a sense of peace. You're definitely a hippie chick grower and I mean that with all due respect...I really dig your style of growing.
-
Just a little journal............
Hello Keno :) Thankyou love but in all honesty I'll be glad to see the back of this grow :o it really is becoming to be a bit of a pain. The problem with the droopy leaves is something I haven't had to deal with before, but the plants are still growing and hopefully as soon as they get to a decent stage of budding they will be harvested.
At the moment I have got rid of five boys, there are eleven plants remaining and I think most are girls but there are a few that are not showing any signs of their sex yet.
It's such a shame about this crop, on the vegitive growing they grew at one of the fastest rates I have ever seen but since inducing flowering I am quite dissapointed with their progress.
However that's how it goes, win some lose some ;)
Hello 9ski9 :) .........Awwww thankyou for the nice words, however like I said above this crop is becoming a real pain and I will be very pleased to see the back of them so I can start again and hopefully have a straight forward crop next time ;)
I do like the plants to grow healthy and produce as much bud as possible but at the end of the day as long as there is enough to get me thourgh to the next harvest, that's all that matters ;)
I must show you're post to my kids ("You're definitely a hippie chick grower"), you see to them I'm just an old fogie who nags them too much :)
Thanks guys......................love mand xxx :)

Mand,
My dear i must say great minds think alike....just a small update back for you on my end i had the same plan 2 months ago to have another harvest b4 X-mas ...altho my garden isnt compareable to yours, i only planted 2 plants under my 400 and hoped for 1 female this time to so fewer plants could hord the light.....last grow was 6 females and it was a bit to crowed for my liking ....ill try to get some pix out for you soon,,,mine have been flowering long enuff to both show sex and i have 2 lovely ladys out of 2 pics.......one is a purple strain......and the other is a skunk # 1....non feminized seeds...i have strange luck lol...out of all my growing ive never once hand a male......and i know the count is up to atleast 20 or so.....and im gonna be starting new babies :-) that way when its time to pick its time to flower again..........hope to see some new pics and new updates on yours....later hun XXX

Just a little journal............
Hello PPP :) it's nice to hear from you :)
Well what can I tell you about the situation here, it's not good :( , I think that there is a good chance of losing the present crop :o
Up to now I have gotten rid of five males, leaving eleven plants, out of those there are three little runts that aren't even showing signs of their sex yet. Also the runts seem to be suffering the worst.
I still think it is the conditions in the growroom although it has dried out quite well and the compost is quite dry now also.
I don't think it's a nutrient problem because it has effected all the plants at the same time.
It doesn't seem like lighting problem neither, when I lost a previous crop it was the HPS bulb worn out with age. When that happened they all turned yellow, withered and died within a couple of days..............this is different.
I am trying to resist Latewood's advice on re-potting because I am trying to just follow my normal growing pattern, however I may yet try that ;)
Like I said at the begining of this journal, I think I might be tempting fate too much by doing a journal :o
I have just included a few pics of the current situation...........guess I'll carry on and see what happens ;)
love mand xxx :)

Just a little journal............
Mand,
Can't tell there is anything wrong by your pictures. They all appear to be healthy. Don't think it is time for any drastic measures. Just relax. Everything will be fine.
