Just Another Crappy Day in Paradise Grow Log....Part Two.

Definite attitude improvement.

In every grow I've ever done, there is a threshold waiting to be crossed. It goes from "this ain't going to work" to "this may just work".

Today, I crossed that line.

It help when you start to see little white hairs. Just one or two per plant can lift your spirits. The last few times I went into the gulch, I left dead males in my wake each time. This time it was girl, girl, girl, don't know, girl...no males.

B came over to my house for a safty meeting. He gave me batch 3 (the sativa). We got to talking shop and I asked about the parentage of the seeds he gave me. He tells me he had them stashed for a year in his freezer.
Cool, but where did they come from? He got a few seeds from a bag I gave him, years ago and he kept crossing them with themselves.

So in effect, I just got back some plants, from a strain I lost long ago, that B was kind enough to keep alive and return to me. Neat Huh? That's the way things work on an Island. He took my strain, put his spin on it for a few generations and gave it back.

Of all the T/S, I captured the trait I was most looking for. The great combination of both height and yield....I watched this last year, and I know what it looks like. She will be the universal mother. Thats the first pic. The second cross T/SxT/S2 has white zipties.

Next pic is the trait I call topknot. This should go elsewhere. Up here...rot city. In a few weeks seeds will be ready.

Pic 3 is a Jack Herer girl. Funny ass growing plant. It needs branches. I guess I forgot what a pure sativa looked like. Knock wood, she is stable. Also every plant behind her is a girl...so far.

And I have a Jack male too.:thumbsup:

Pic 4 is an experiment. When I dumped batch 2, she already had declared. Damned if i throw away an established girl. So she is now one of 2 survivors of Batch 2. I will have to keep my eye on them.

Pic 5 is a Batch 4 girl... thats right batch 4. Four and 5 barely have five sets of leaves, and they are already showing sex. It doesn't matter where I pollenate her, so I put her in the gulch, try to get some size on her.

love reading your grow log. unfortunately someone salted my grows. One survived who has survived a 10 foot fall already and still no broken stem. Any suggestions to try and help it? should i flush it?

You stumped me. These are all wild assed guesses. If you flush, I don't think it could be flushed totaly out. Maybe you could take the top inch of soil off?

Salt's pretty Fucked up, you can try flushing, but unless your girls are in pots you'll need one of those deep root fertilizing probes that the Tree maintenance crews use, and an ASSLOAD of PH'd water! :(

trust me I was blown away to walk up on my plants and see them almost disappeared to nothing.. first instinct, looked at the ground to see if something had been tampered with, noticed salt crystals on the ground. obviously salt too, like they might as well left a message that said "when it rains it pours". even more puzzling this fighter plant , only has the two round leaves and is already 6 inchers tall no sign of new nodes yet has already taken a 9 foot tumble and landed on its stem with no bends or snaps or damage at all really, survived the salt bandit. hopefully he keeps fighting but jeez man. They could have just killed my girlfriend or something.

As we taxi out to the main runway, the rain gets worse. They hold us at the threshold. Out of the mist a pair of lights slowly emerge. I have the best seat in the house. As the landing lights get bigger, a plane appears, suddenly it's screaming along, right next to us, everything behind the cockpit is unseen, except the tail, shrouded in steam, mist, and rain as the Hawaiian 757 plops down, full flaps, dumps his spoilers and the beautiful plane franticly bleeds off airspeed, and turns into a fat waddleing bus at the end of the runway..

About the time the noise reaches us we have turned onto the runway and are starting our run. Thirtyfive hundred feet later we are clawing for altitude. Bye bye Maui... Time to renew my MMJ licence. I'm on a single engine puddle jumper heading for Kona.

When I arrive, I meet up with a new old friend. He was kind enough to let me crash at his house...AND.... his better half is a GREAT Chef. I am not proud to report he smoked me under the table. Crashed early and crashed hard. Thanks again.

The Oahu gang showed up the next morning. Things at the Dr's office have gone downhill. Last year we went out to the country, and sat an a bench outside, with an oceanview. The Doctor now has an office in downtown Kona, with a headshop downstairs....what can I say? Nothing says serious doctor like a headshop as a side business. Stay classy Doc. :wtf:

My mouth got me in trouble again. One of the Oahu boys want out to pick up some goodies from his friend to take back. We all went along for the ride. At the meet I was minding my business sitting in the back. Out of the blue I was asked by the grower what I thought of the product. I said it looked great if you were buying stems...then asked which one of his children grew it...and then I offered to send him a real oz for free when I got home....

Why is everyboby glaring at me? Hell, don't ask me a question if you don't want an answer.

Back home was uneventful. All except it rained all day every day I was gone. The T/S reject was rejected for a reason. When I saw it this AM it was a ball of mold. The T/S I call topknot is doing well and had almost reached the 5 ft mark. See pic below. The seeds are a two weeks from mature. The top looks good too. Pic 2.

The seed project is working as planned. Except this plan has no Males. First batch had almost all males, this...so far...none. There are a couple that may be male, but so far nothing. Feast or famine.

My guess the mistake I made with batch 1 was hitting them with 24 hour light before they declared, creating way too many males. So I have a batch of Kush that already have declared female. So today I put them in bigger pots and an now going to hit them with 24 hour hybred light for the next month. Maybe I will have better luck working with declared girls. Maybe they all will go fag on me. I am still fishing for the 5 ft short season plant....More than one that is... Front end didn't work, now I will try the back end.

Throw it all against the wall and see what sticks.

While I have been making a hash of the last few months, my partner has been patiently waiting. He will not get serious until Christmas. Christmas day I get let into the seed vault. He always does an April harvest. He has plans, and I saw about 300 pots with dirt in them....:D.

The way this usualy works is he will create this monster, then rely on me to bail him out instead of the usual he bail me out. This long short season (Jan- May) will be many things... dull will not be one of them.

The girls in the gulch are begining to show potential. Got home, no males. That's a change. They are doing ok. Pic 3...all girls!

Looking great as always my friend:thumbsup:. Laughed my ass off imagining the browsing of smoking devises before seeing the Doc. And if it was my first time, id buy so much crap so when i go into the room to talk with the Doc, my arm's would be filled with his merchandise. Hey Doc this pipe work well? I looked up toward the volcano last night and saw the light show. We got a lot of rain...still is falling now. But the nasty stuff fell between us.

Mr and Mrs Herrer came through just fine. She filled a TRO against him, so he had to move elsewhere.

the plant i started a few weeks ago was doing verry well, untill this past storm tore it apart, now back to square 1 :( .... so last week i germinated my last 3 seeds (well not my absolute last, my friend will give me the 10 he owes me as soon as i ask for them) 1 was a dud. the other 2 i have put into the soil and have sprouted already. the ferts are still doing wonders, only 1 day in soil and a sprout, im impressed!!! :D

any ways, we'll see how these last 2 goes, hopefully there wont be another deadly storm for a few weeks till the plants can actually handle the pour! as for that midget i had, i chopped off the crown last week, it was too early and the buds werent that great, i mean it get me nd 2 of my frenz super blazed for like 30 mins, it was only 30 mins, but an intense 30 mins for that matter. shoulda waited a few more weeks b4 samples! oh well, doesnt matter, one of my friends are gonna re veg it for me! i wanna see a miricle happen, do midgets have growth sperts after being fully grown?! well this one sure as hell will. :hippy: bwahahahahahahahahaha.

besides that, i cant wait to see if these 2 new sprouts will do well. i hope so, cuz 4 plants were wasted in my experience so far, and i want no more to be put to waste!

WW... thank you. But I caused the growth pattern difference. I topped the male before I moved it. The Jack males and females look a lot alike. That male branched a bit more... not much, but it was noticable. But I am working with two whole seeds, so what it is, is a very tiny sample. I'm just doing the happy dance, because I have a boy and a girl (I soooo hope).

This is early, and probably premature, but I my partner owed me a favor,...long story...but he made good with three Black Thai seeds. He has had them stashed for a decade and more. One germinated. It has yet to show me HER sex yet. But SHE is out in the gulch. About a ft and a half tall.

Damn...after that build up, SHE will almost gurantee be a HE. But I'm going to copy you and give it a go.

Wow its amazing just how fast your plants grow there it seems. The gulch looks like its filled up again with what will be monster's after the re veg, right?I believe im right here, or is this an all out breed ta get seed. Im thinking 90 days and harvest bud, then ya got your re veg's for your main grow to get giant.

I do keep up here and do know you are crossing to improve growing ability in your environment, but are these plants re vegged as well. Gotta be, i just cant see you not re vegging something thats already up and lookin at ya:D. And seeds will be next years 90 day wonders, right? To then re veg.

Well we made it....another year done....

Last night was nuts...Take 10 dogs...add a pile of fireworks (not mine)...mix well...and we get a dogfight... Happy New Year...I'm getting too old for this shit.

Canni...That's my prototype guard cat...after last night...I'm thinking of going that direction...I'll need at least a hundred...maybe more...:D

LSY...I cheated a bit on those. Most of those are from batch 3. They got 3 weeks of 24 hour light. Same with the Jack. Those 3 weeks will add about 3 ft extra height.

Right now everything in the gulch will be taken by April. Those are a sativa and should get to 5 ft tall...maybe more...but it is a bit too early to start outdoor regrows yet. I think. My partner disagrees with me and has just cracked a bunch. So we will see who is right.

My day to start regrows is after Jan 21. Sativa Doms only. Use Indica Doms and you get buds by May, and confusion after that.

Speaking of confusion... That's where I am.

I used to laugh at you guys ordering seeds. Fuck. If only it was that simple.

Ya ya, anyway, why not just take the bud from the plants you you have in the ground now. Its just that i think if you trimmed them down some they will not die, but stay alive until there is a change in light? Or is it something that has to do with the light and would just hermy them?


Now im only thinking of how i re vegged my indoor plants...oh and BTW new you put them plants in 24/0 light, but still their big!...........anyway, i just took the buds off the plant, trimmed some branch growth down, 2 re pots with the lights back to 18/6. Just with all your hard work, couldn't you maybe if its only around 3 weeks difference, plant late and use these to re veg? Hell then plant more to re veg as you normally would. Id try one only to see if it might save time and work, not to mention how big they would be at harvest with a jump start in growth. Damn i thought i got it the first thread or maybe just follow this thread to the end and go back and read part one again, because iv missed something. Is it a climate thing maybe?

its like 2am right now, but yesterday around mid day i jus checked on the 2 plants that sprouted 2 weeks ago. the last time i checked them was, well 2 weeks ago. lol. but surprizingly the last storm didnt harm then. the only thing is that i think it rained so much, that all the ferts that were in the soil got drained out.. the growth slowed down incredibly, it pretty much looks ALMOST the same as when i last checked it! so its time to put more ferts. but thats for later on today hahahaha.
tips are still, and always will be wecome! and now its time to go nai nai!

LSY.... Climate....no. It's our photoperiod. Total swing between the longest day, and the shortest day is 2 hours 25 minutes. The gulch plants can't be regrown. Unlike you, I can't control the sun. :( So you work with what you get. I also need to clear the holes and put new dirt in, and all that fun stuff.

Four weeks... makes a difference between 1 in 10 regrowable to 7 out of 10 regrowable. Your always going to have some that just go off and can't be regrown.

Got the first T/S x T/S seeds off the univeral mom. She got hit real early as I let the T/S male go crazy on her sister. Lots of pollen flying that day. All the seeds were at the base of the bud. Combed thru and got about 50....so that line lives on...pay the man. :thumbsup:

A lot of these I will regrow. I feel a lot better now these are in.

Since I am a bit shy of boys....Looks like the Jack will be the univeral male.

The weather last week was cold. We never even got above 70 most of last week. This week a strong high sits over Alaska. This high pushes the jet stream down over the islands, and with the jet stream comes the rain. Later today the first of these storms move through. Later this week another stronger one take it's place.

Normal winter weather. After a couple years of drought, it feels good to return to normal. We had hail last Wensday.

Hail...This ain't right...This is Hawaii? .....WTF???

All my crosses have been made. Using both the Jack male and the T/S saved pollen. That's done. Also harvested topknot. With all the crap weather we have had it should have turned into a moldball. It didn't.

Once I have a couple of thousand seeds in the bag I can move along to the next job. The crosses are made, the rest is going to happen by itself. Nothing to do but wait and watch for fags.

Now it's time to prepare for the long season. Shovel jumping. Manual Labor.

Last year I had 4 groups of 7. Some areas did great. Like the gulch. I'm enlarging that. I'm going to stuff as many as I can fit in there. On the other hand the top did poorly. I'm going to shut that down. And in the bottom area, I am preparing it now.

As I harvest out the gulch, no more replanting empty holes. This has been a nice diversion, but long season is the prize.

Welcome back Kona Storm. This one was a good one. Fifty mile an hour winds, a foot or two of rain....The town below me is called Kihei is under 4 ft of water. Power was out for most of yesterday. Part of the water line that serves this area is gone, all the gulches are roaring.

Just braved the rain and checked....They are still there!!!!. They are sideways.... But that can be fixed. The little gulch barely flowed, and the rock tiers I built ponded the water, then released it to the next tier.

The wind has stopped, but the storm has stalled right over us. As soon as the sun rises I'm going to hop in the car and see what happened last night.

Wow...just wow....stand next to a gulch and watch the boulders roll past.

DAYUM!!!!!!

Oh man that musta been one big rain man. But like Canni said ''there still there'' and you know they got a helluva root system going on under the them.

Just a thought, but when the Sun pops up the branch growth should just pick up and grow toward the Sun. I was just thinking of the purple plant i put in side ways and how each branch grew up to be all colas. It was ripped off so i only had a sample of it, oh well. But the thing looked great after watching the growth find the Sun and they were getting fat too.

Remember....This is all bullshit.

We got more rain in the last two weeks than we had all of last year. The last two storms have left behind a total of sixteen inches....by my count... And the last one is at our doorstep.

Fuck me running....Just what we need....more rain....Yes.... That would help.

This one is not as strong as the last two storms. And less wind too. All the girls have been proped up. I broke the top off the biggest one in the process...so I fucked up....again. If the wind comes up again I can pull the props and let the plant fall over to go with the wind.

But, hopefully that won't be necessary.

Anyway....we were thinking last year....what would happen.... If we were to take a couple of pounds of seeds....That's right .....pounds....and dump them in a flowing gulch.

At the time we neither had the seeds, or the flowing gulch.

Guess what? Remember my partner? The one with the seeded long season last year? Like 8 million seeds?

Now we do....:D....and we did....:D

Yep....We just Johnny Appleseeded all of Kihei.... Bombs away....:D....Perfect timing, see the water, it flows rarely. Those gulches are dry. Once it falls off the hill, It flood plains, Spreads out, Drops seeds and dirt...all throughout wherever it lands.

Tick tock Tick tock. I smell D day comming up. Been shovel jumping, Getting ready for regrows.

Damn....Has it been a year already? How time flies when you are having fun. The short season girls are well into bud. They should make it to six feet. I have repaired the storm damage, and they are running on their own now. All I want is now to get them out of here so I can clear the holes and start long season already.

The rain has left, headed south. We have a good strech of nice weather so no mold problems yet.

Sorry... this is a dry one. But there should be a harvest soon, so all is not done yet.

For those of you following this log, you will remember aways back, I mentioned leaving the plants in small pots, not transplanting them, and get 2 ft plants just for crossing purposes.

Well I did, and it worked. I started with some Kush, Diesel, and Hash Buds girls. Not a boy in the bunch. As a rule these are short plants, and the seeds were all indoor acclimated. I have crossed them with Jack, Batch 3, and Brand X males. The Jack and 3 are full Sativa. Let's see....

I will have...sorry this will take a while...about 20 crosses when I'm done here. Maybe a few more. I don't know.

So now I have seeds comming out of my ears. Some promising crosses....Lots of ways to go.

Now we are cooking....Shit....this worked....Amazing.

And my timing is perfect...pardon me while I pat myself on the back....:D

At least so far....This log is close to done. I give it two more months max.

We are to the point where this log starts to bleed into Part 3. This is this, and that is that, and never the two shall meet. But in fact this seed run sets me up for long season.

This was just what I needed. I wanted to go in a different direction for nex....shit. see? It's bleeding already.

Anyway....To recap, I took males from my T/S, the Jack, Batch 3, and Brand X, and crossed them with female T/S. Jack, Batch 3, Kush, Hash Bud, Diesel and Brand X.

Over the last month I have been watching everything develop. I'm running on Autopilot now. I can make some decisions off of what my girls are telling me.

For instance, I'm going to scrap the T/S line. It's too fluffy. and has a few sterile nanners.

Batch 3 looks to be a winner. It goes big, with wide branches, a wonderful smell, and the bud compounds and fattens up quick. This is allegedly one of my old strains I lost many years ago, but don't tell anybody...for the life of me I can't remember it. :wtf:

My wild card is the Brand X. It has lavender hairs, and though early in the show. It looks good. I would have liked to get ahold of this earlier, I'm not proud of the little plants, but I kept them small and managed to cross the females with itself, and the males were crossed with everything else. So I can kick that can down the road and mess with it later.

And the Jack is a wet dream.... You can see my drool spots all around her. I've just started taking seeds of of her. I will lose yield, but quality will be top notch. This will go lon....damn it! Bleed some more you idiot...

Hey Canni. My cat does the same, But it's small and eats very little.

Remember that rat problem aways back? Fixed now thanks to guard cat. Even the big boys in the attic. Put him up there for a while, no more rats. Neat the way that works. No more cages needed for sprouts...:thumbsup:
