Anyway, I took some more pics tonight just to update the grow, and I've got some questions :wtf:
I'm growing in Happy frog soil, and made the mistake of putting my CLONE from the dispensary straight into a 3 gallon pot. :o (More reading on this site say's that's not the best way to go :( ) None the less that's where she is, watered with tap water left to set at least 24-48 hours, (No Ph tester :( )

I've noticed that the new growth has slowed a bit, and the leaves are bright green as they come in,... and don't start getting nice and dark green/purple until they've fully matured? :wtf:
No signs of nute burns, but I seem to be lacking something.... Should I start feeding?,... if so What?.... Or I'm just tripping :hippy:
I"m gonna look over the "plant problems" stuff tomorrow, ( Couldn't log on for the last hour since the sight was refreshing,... and it's now almost 1am! :eek: )
Anyway, here's the pics,... the colors didn't come out as well as I'd hoped in the pics, but it's a bit more drastic difference IRL.:what:

The young leaves just look like that. It takes a while for them to darken as they start to absorb light and photosynthesize. :thumbsup: I always thought it looked cool, and even my three month old plants still do this.
However (and I hate to say it) But, unless your getting a lot of dust on your plant, you may have spider mites. Because Colorado didn't have a rough winter for them (housing them indoors state wide) I think they are everywhere.
Go to an ACE hardware or Lowes/ Homedepot and buy a HOTSHOTS no pest strip. Put it in with the plant for just a few days and it will kill them.
Otherwise I think your plant looks great. I don't think you should weave it. But it's your learning experience. :D
Your plants look nice. You might want to go get a ph tester liquid set..Or a aquarium ph tester for run off water. You can give them nutes while there vegging. I bought a starter kit from my local hydro store.(RECIPE FOR SUCCESS). Vancefish is rite your plants look good. And if you think you have mites take care of that ASAP....:thumbsup:Quote:

Realistically I'm trying to get the main cola's on the branches to hit the sides of the screen, and I'll let the secondary branches do their own thing unless there needs to be some filler, or one starts getting to riley. (probably a good one for cloning anyway)
Before anyone say's it,... I"ll have a crowned plant with lots of vertical growth off the screen towards the middle and not so much towards the outside. (already happening) This is where the 2nd screen comes in, to let the outside of the first screen catch "UP" before flowering.
Time will tell if this is gonna work, I sure hope so, but there's nothing saying plans cant change along the way! ;)

Vance; After talking to you today and getting a better grasp on what I've been somewhat fretting over, (And what you're seeing) I agree, mites are a bitch! :mad: (actually did manage to find one tonight, tho it was in the soil? :confused: )
I checked out the "HOT SHOT" strips,.... ummmm,.... this is a small booth, and even the grow room in construction is small ish 4.5x6.5'
This thing will kill everything in my entire basement for 4 months! :eek:
Problem is that my cats spend most of their time down there, and I don't have OUTSIDE ventilation for my grow room as of yet! :o
So the HotShot is a no go.
I did pick up some Neem oil tho, and have sprayed the entire plant with it, as well as the topsoil.
Tonight was the night she wanted water, so hopefully the Neem will get in to the leaves and drive those little bastards off before long! :mad:
After looking over the damage on pringles plants and even pulling a leaf to look at under a microscope and see those little bastards, I went out and got a micro scope from radioshack. The white specs I'm seeing on my leaves seem to be cloudy trichomb tops, they're certainly not the kind of damage seen at your work. Anything that I zoomed in on that I thought might be a might turned out to be a speck of soil, or other kind of dust. I combed over the plant looking for anything until the lights turned off!
I'm working on getting the grow room sealed up and cleaned out today, and this weekend. And I've got a HotShot's strip I'll hang up in there anyway when I'm done just to be safe.

Good luck Cann I know the filling...My father in law had mites and I tell you those little basterds kicked in overdrive the last week of havest in his Hydro cabinet... Awwe mites? That sucks man. Hopefully the neem oil takes care of em. I actually got some neem oil for my girls just in case mites appeared, but I've been lucky so far. Keep us updated on your fight against the evil zerg. Don't fall to the zerg rush!

She went from this gorgeous lively bush of green and purple (first pic) to this sad wilted trainwreck (2nd pic) in just a couple hours with that fuckin strip in such a small area! :eek:
I opened the door to the booth and all the windows in the basement to vent that shit out about 1/2 hour before that 2nd pic was taken, and the tops have already started to turn around, so she'll survive..... but FUCK!!!!!!!!!!!:cursing::icon506:
Never seen that before. I sealed both my plants (clones plants) in a 2' X 3' X 2.5' box, taped the box seams all closed (sealed tight) and put two of those strips in there over night. They both came out looking fine. (just mite free)
I'd have to guess something else caused the droopies. Maybe it got to hot, or the soil dried out to much.
However, your girl should recover just fine. Give her a day.:thumbsup:

shit, things aren't looking good. discoloration and wilting are creeping up the branches into some of the newer growth. :( I ran out and picked up some clearx to help flush the soil, and a rapid rooter, and took a couple cuttings just incase.
The tippy tops of everything is still looking good, so I've got my fingers crossed that mom makes it, and that the clones all take.
Shit, My GDP that was so beautiful yesterday is just a bunch of sticks now :( Every single fan leaf that was fully formed when I put that pest strip in there is now mostly dead, tho fortunately there is a silver lining.
The new growth at all the nodes is coming in strong and green! I did a heavy pruning and cut off the totally dead leaves/ trimmed the 1/2 dead ones to clear up the light for new growth.
The strip must have F'd up the soil since she was dying off like a systemic problem was happening, thus the soil flush, the clones that were clipped are not wilting at all, fingers crossed that they'll all take off.

All I can say is,.. Hope she improves, and sorry it happened. Not sure why the pest strip would have any effect though. I've done about double what you did and had no ill effects.
However I think you may like seeing this.

Pulled mom out of the cabinet, the intensity of the light seemed to be making the chem burn progress faster, lost a couple more leaves. :( Also pretty crowded in the cabinet. I've got her under some normal reflector light bulbs now and the whole room will be 24-0 until the clones have roots and mom has bounced back. (Or should I put mom on the timer for 18/6? Still have 2.5 hours to change my mind) Temps are in the mid 70's for mom, low 80's in the cabinet with the clones, 45% RH for mom obviously under the dome 100%
Poor girl, her leaves looked like someone had taken a rake to them under the microscope. :(
As far as the clones go,..... How long before I know if they are gonna survive? How long before I get roots? (Using Clonex gel) I know it'll take a week or better for the clones to be ready to transplant (if they make it):o

It's a little after midnight, and I just got out of the room,... I got an active exhaust vent installed today, 6" computer fan in a 8" duct out the back basement window,... And I got some seals on the door done up too,... it's not air tight, but helps, and will block light bleed to what will become my dedicated veg room. (4.5x6.5')
As I've already posted Mom is no longer in the little cabinet, but out in the main room under a goofy little 3 light(only 2 work ATM) strip that has 50w incandescent "Reflector" style bulbs in it,... it looks like it belongs in a bathroom right above the mirror, but it's got a plug, and the reflector lights are pretty focused (Hot tho!)so it'll work for now, I'm investing in more T5's soon.....
I got the main room humidity up to 50%, and with running the reflector lights as well as the overhead incandescent I've managed to get the main booth temps up to almost 78* and with the doors slightly cracked on the cabinet the temps in there stay around 82*
I'm trying to stay on the right track, even tho it got derailed, and it'll happen again,... suffice to say it's a learning experience!
I'm pretty sure I'm on the right track again, and I'm off to the races,.... but I just gotta ask the Pro's......

Cann im running into issuse now too... Temps stayi at 88-90 humidity drops to 30-40 I have to leave wet towel in there now... Is it because the plants getting bigger. Im frustrated. Plants are doing well burnt a few leafs like you but over all things are good....:thumbsup:

I dont have a few burnt leaves,... EVERY leaf is burnt! :eek: I'm struggling to keep her going ATM, she seemed to be doing pretty good today, so I added some reflective material to the inside of the main grow room since it's not very intense lighting,....... sure as shit less than an hour later the burn's are back and advancing,... I shut down some lights and watered the leaves to cool her off.
She smells like Neem oil now too,... she had just started smelling like a pot plant under the weak light.
I used Neem on the soil, could I have overdosed? Would a high level of Neem in the plants system lead to this kind of photo sensitivity? Would the effect of an overdose take a full day and a half to kick in then kill the plant in 7 hours?
Shouldn't the flushing have helped? (I guess it did, the plants not dead yet,.... yet) Should I flush the soil again? I ran almost a gallon thru her the first time,.... perhaps I should do it again, this time with 2+ gallons. :wtf:
P.S. the clones seem to be doing well,... (not that I can actually say that since I don't know what I'm doing), but the new growth that was at the top of them has bent towards the lights and is spreading with no signs of burn just yet.

Did a drop test on my tap water and it's 8.5+!!! :eek: I'm really surprised I haven't shown any problems before this little brain fart,.... the soil is still soaked from the flushing, bit worried about that now too. :(

Question about cloning, how long should I go before starting to vent the humidity dome and harden the baby's? Or is this more a play by ear thing? :confused:

I moved the cabinet out of the room last night,... What a chore! :eek:
It was too tall to move straight out,... but also to wide to tip over top first and get it angled out that way,.... wound up having to tip it IN and work it down the wall in order to get it out of the door way bottom first!
Any way, with the cabinet out I put my 2nd set of shelves in, and hung some reflective on that end of the booth (recycled out of the cabinet) and moved the MH light and Mom into the nearest corner.
All is pretty much happy save for one thing, Humidity. :( I"m running the Humidifier Full Blast 24-7 and cant break 40% now that I have the shelves in there! :confused: (at least with the lights and exhaust fan on, Humidity spikes to nearly 70% overnight with exhaust fan and lights off.)

I've come to the decision to thread jack my own thread, and instead of tracking the progress of "Purple" which will now be bonsaied to keep her small. I will track the progress of 2 of the clones, Gia and Persephone.
Gia; I wanted to take daily pics to track her, but that didn't Happen, So it'll be every couple days between updated pics,....
Suffice to say, I'm gonna keep on track that I was planning for Purple,(mom) and am actually gonna be cutting a screen for her tonight and starting LST in the same manner that I've been working mom.
Only real difference is the veg time,... I'm thinking of only veging for 28-35 day's before flowering under 400w HPS in the cabinet that I just moved out of the veg room. (Temporary fix till I get the 4x6 flower room built) It should work for flowering smaller (1-2 month) veg plants.
Persephone; This clone is the runt of the litter, and spent better than the last week just sitting under the T5's.... Not growing,.... not wilting and dying...... Just there. :wtf:
She's growing now, and growing quickly like her sisters are, and The last few day's I've started hardening her to Outdoor conditions, she's been outside for the early morning and late afternoon direct sunlight and inside during the midday high temps and overnight lows.
I had her outside all day today and barring extreme weather this is the daytime plan for the next week or two until she's root bound in the 3.5" starter pot she's in, then she's going outside permanently.
I've got a "Whiskey barrel" planter that's filled with commercial "Topsoil" (5 cubic feet) and I have about a 3 gallon plug in the middle of it that is Happy frog cut 1/3 with pearlite because the soil here SUX!:jointsmile:
I'm planning on building a removable structure to put over the plant in the event of a hail storm or other damaging weather..... but it's just an idea that'll probably never see fruition unless the wife pushes me for it.

I've been slacking on my picture taking and posting,.... Ohh well.
Here's some pics and an update;
Pic 1: Most recent picture of Persephone, The recent High temps had me a bit worried about her pot/soil getting to hot, so I dropped the pot into the soil. I went back out a couple day's later and there were roots sticking out the bottom, so she's been plugged outside permanently.
I spotted my first sign of mites,.... just a little stipeling (Sp?) on one leaf, so I flipped it over and sure enough there was an immature spider mite on the bottom of the leaf, squished that little bastard where it stood and combed over the plant for more, I found some eggs, (Squished them too), but no other mites,... so a light neem oil bath for her and a shower before going back into my indoor room for me.
Pic 2: The Clones,.... I have no intention of keeping these, just took them to get some more experience with doing it,.... One of them didn't make it but I expected that since it was a branch on the clone anyway and was WAY too small to really even try.
Pic 3: Gia. I ditched the screen because it was just to big of spaces between the grid to keep her tied down,.... specially under the new HID
So just back to basic LST for the next 2 weeks then I'll do a SCROG in flowering.
Pic 4: This will be my dedicated VEG area for a while,.... Ignore the red, I was just burning in the HPS bulb for a couple minuets. It will be getting lit with the El'Cheapo 400w (Switchable) light that I picked up running a 6500k MH. After getting that thing light up to see how much heat it'll make I just couldn't take it away from the girls,.... So I picked up another hood for flowering.
Not shown in that picture is what I did with the clones, they are actually under the table the Vegging plants are on, the T5's are right on top of them and it's all sealed up at night to block out the 24-0 light in there. :D
Pic 5: My ambitions far outstretch my budget and time is not really on my side so I'm cutting my 4.5x6.5 room up and will use an area 4.5'x 33" as flowering. The second hood I picked up is a SunSystems unit,.... not quite as cheap as the first one, but it'll run the HPS bulb that came with the first one, and should provide plenty of light for that space..... This area of the room is still under construction,.... as if you couldn't tell.
My indoor plants went under the 12/12 lights today! :D And for the last 2 day's my outdoor plant has been getting it's ass kicked by the weather :mad: At least the outdoor plant is small enough to cover easily against the 3/4" hail we had on thursday! :eek:

I'm running my flowering light from about 7:20pm to 7:20am and Veg light from 5:30am till 11:30pm, temps in my veg room hold pretty steady, a little on the high side peaking out at around 88-89* while both lights are running, 82-84* while one or the other is off.
The flowering room is a bit of a different story, temps are around 86* with both lights running 80* with just the HPS running (Veg room night time) and 73* with the HPS off (during Veg room day time.) The fresh air intake is in the flowering room, and exhausts into the veg room then out a duct to the back yard.
This is a grow log tho, not a room setup thread, so on to the leafy green porn :cool:
Pic 1: Persephone, we used a bucket to cover her during the hail and torrential rain storms over the last 2 days,... its still overcast and drizzly, temps have been in the 50's-60's. Gotta love Colorado weather.

Like I told you, I SCRog'd my two plants. After giving them 12/12 for two days a few months ago. I ended up with a LOT of ex-flowering growth. Then the stretch of other branches blocked light to that growth. Leaving me with a TON of dying, ex-flowering, stuff inside the plant.
After a repot roughly a week or so ago. I built a screen cage for each plant. THIS week I trimmed out ALL the dying undergrowth and pulled the tips out through the screen. After four days of veg time, I went through and trimmed out ALL mite damaged leaves (including the eggs they'd left on them).
In a few more days I'll be able to trim out some clones (and expose the remainder to better light) and start my flowering.:thumbsup:

The difference with recovery between yours, and mine is. Yours got Neem damage, causing internal damage. Thus yours needed a bit of extra time to flush itself out. Mine however has no damage internally, or with any root system issues. So, like your topped plant. Mine should put all the energy it WAS putting into everything I cut off into nothing but the tops I left (and a few new shoots the plant is SURE to create).
It's been three days since I took that pic. So, here's a pic of them this morning. The DP (Farther) was trimmed out a day earlier then the G (closer). After each tip puts out 2-3 nodes. A large amount of that growth will block the light for other close by growth. THOSE will be cut out to clone, and to open up the other growth to better light.
My actual estimate on cutting clones is this weekend. I'll start flowering a few days after that.:thumbsup:

I"m going to have my wife pick up a bag of Ocean Forest tomorrow and my mother plant will be getting upped to a 5 gallon, and the 2 vegging clones will get upped to 1L pots because they're the biggest I've got ATM and one of them is starting to show signs of root bound stress. I really need to get rid of these plants, but can't bring myself to pull them and burn em, :( Vance,... How's the one Pringle has doing? is it dead yet? I'm starting to lean towards the no pest strip killing the plant again after seeing that little girl on monday! :eek:
I figure I've got another week-week and a half before my flowering plants need bigger pots,... they'll be going into 3 gallon pots from the 2.5L pots they're in now, that should be enough to finish them I hope.
