I could only hope to have ladies that look that nice. Damn dude, you have a great looking grow.
TehNooblet:pimp:
Well it's Friday, and you know what that means. Picture day!
PhatJay, thanks man! Think you'll ever switch to regular soil or hydro? I'm not sure if I wanna do coco, go all out for hydro, or stay in soil for my next grow.
TehNooblet, I don't know wtf you're talking about. Your plants look awesome!
Busy night tonight so the girls didn't get much attention. I woke up hung over... not fun. It'll probably be a good 3 months before I forget how little fun being hung over is, and drink too much. Oh, and I had the order wrong yesterday... the plants were in order of Camara/Watson/Scarlet. I switch them around daily.
I think it's too small for even the camera to capture, but the very tips of a few leaves are showing some brownness. I would guess it's nute burn. For a couple days the tips were just a lighter green, but now it's a tiny brown spot. For the next watering, it's gunna be just water. Tomorrow is transplant day. That should be fun. I might try to take a clone off of each one if I get ambitious.
Camara/Watson/Scarlet tonight...

They are looking a little over watered. They look healthy though and they will perk up when you transplant.
Dude, I wish I would have left my ladies all short and bushy like that. That is why I say your ladies look amazing!
TehNooblet:pimp:
I'm looking at a leaf pattern on 6 of my plants here...they are almost identical to yours. Guess it's time to take some pics and compare.Quote:

They're looking good Raiz, keep it up.
Hrmm, yes I agree that that look overwatered, but I'm not sure if that's the case, as I had actually watered 2 days earlier, and the soil felt pretty dry and airy. See my transplanting pics below. I wonder if it takes a couple days to show the signs of overwater, or if it's just because they are rootbound and unhappy.Quote:

Notes:
I didn't pH the water. In fact I just got it straight out of the tap for the transplant. I didn't leave it standing 24 hours, I didn't boil it, nothin. Will this stress the plants? Possibly. Will it kill em? Nah! I kinda want to see what I can put them through.
I took some pictures so that I can follow the process (or make improvements) on my next grow, and you guys can see what I did.
Instructions:
- Fill the 3 gallon pot with enough dirt so that when I put in the 1 gallon pot, it sits even, or slightly above the surface of the 3 gallon pot.
- Then I fill the area between the 3 gal pot and the 1 gal pot with dirt.
- Next, I pack the dirt down well, water the dirt, then pack it down again to get air pockets out.
http://img203.imageshack.us/img203/9558/dsc00318a.jpg
- Next I remove the plants from their 1 gallon pots by massaging the outside of the pot until the soil loosens a bit.
- I slide my hand in over the top of the pot with the stem going between my fingers, and push on the bottom-center of the pot with my other hand. This loosens the dirt enough to allow the plant to slide out. Here are a couple pics of the rootbound plants. Keep in mind these are only 26-27 days old. I started this log before the plants sprouted.
http://img707.imageshack.us/img707/3606/dsc00320k.jpg http://img684.imageshack.us/img684/1830/dsc00316y.jpg
- The hard part is pretty much done now. I take the 1 gallon pot out of the water-soaked dirt within the 3 gallon pot, and put the plant right into the same spot. The soil has sunken in a bit due to air spots being filled and me packing the soil a bit, but that's ok.
http://img101.imageshack.us/img101/7523/dsc00321mw.jpg
- Finally, I add some soil around the plant to bring the soil level even with the top of the pot. A bit of watering/dirt packing happens here as well.
- Here they are in their new homes. I had to raise the light a bit to keep from crushing the pepper, so I stuck a ream of paper under each pot to raise the girls to the light.

I expect that they'll look overwatered and stressed for the next couple of days, but after that they should perk right up!
They look good! I can't wait to see them in flowering! Are you planning on leaving them in the 3-gal or are you going to go up to a 5-gal? One more question. How long are you going to leave them in veg? Sexual maturity, specific height, whenever you think you want to, etc..?
My original plan was to leave them in 3 gallon pots, but I'm a little worried about that. These guys became rootbound pretty fast in the plastic cups and the 1 gallon pots, so I figure they'll do the same in the 3 gallon.
So, the decision becomes...
A. Leave them in 3 gallon pots, and switch them to flower soon.
B. Switch them to 5 gallon pots in a couple weeks, and flower a few days after that.
Decision A leaves probably leaves me with a smaller overall yeild, however the plants will be easier to move around because they're lighter, the soil will dry out faster between waterings, trimming may be easier, and besides tucking the plants under the screen when it goes in there, I can be pretty lazy about maintenance.
Decision B gives me a possibly bigger yield, less possibility of nute burn/deficiencies due to having more soil to spread the nutes over, and the "oooooh, ahhhhh" at harvest because of bigger plants.
I think I'm going to go with A, because I want to spend my time creating a second grow area for the clones, and not hassle with 5 gallon pots. The exact day that I switch them to flower will be determined by when they fill the screen about 40% which should be pretty soon. Installing that is another little project I need to do this weekend.
If it were me, and what I did, was to start flowering about now. You are at now where it took me about 6 1/2 weeks to get to with the T-12's plus a couple weeks on 400W MH. The flouro's where definitely tighter growth. It may not be "ideal" but since you are not sitting on a small mountain from any previous grows it may come in handy. You could concentrate more on setting record yields or quality down the road. :420thought:
I also like how you smoked about one time, then not only decided to grow, but decided to grow one of the most potent strains in history! I call that jumping in with both feet. Well done! :rastabanna:
Hah! I posted almost exactly what you were going to say right before you posted it. We really are in sync.... are you my neighbor?
This is still going to be a hell of a grow! I can't believe how tight those nodes are.
We are like the evil Spock (with goatee) and the kind Spock. Same, but different. Like when Kirk knew his evil twin was lurking in engineering, because that was what the wimpy Kirk would have done. Our thoughts are one. Our minds are one, much like the Vulcan mind meld.Quote:

And yes, I was thinking the only "down side" to your system (please pardon me for saying if it sounds rude) is that you have no clone space. Be sure to mark your clones for each plant. I have one plant with much bigger buds and did not keep track other than WW. I don't know if the genetics are better or if it was just random environmental preference some how. Anyway, yes, clone for sure if you can. It's faster, easier and cheaper than seeds.
Are you trying to grow the nodes that close on purpose? The nodes are growing so close together that the leaves are on top of each other. A fan can't push any air through those plants. You might want to let them stretch some so they have room to grow some buds. lol Thats about as bushy a plant as I've ever seen! They do look healthy though, besides the little transplant stress.
1. excellent transplant pics...
2. soon...the moment of truth...flowering...to determine the sex...:)
3. Good Luck....(I just had 4 out of 4..standard seeds male WW's...this sucked)...:wtf:
Well it's Sunday, and you know what that means. Picture day!
Not at all! That's just how they decided to grow. Today it looks like they're stretching a bit on their own. I had to raise the light twice since yesterday. Twice.Quote:

So the plants went nuts in their new 3 gallon homes lastnight. I was a bit shocked. They also showed their sex, which means they're ready to switch over to flower. We live in exciting times boys and girls! My girlfriend and I also took the liberty of decorating the pots with some sickers. :D

There were some people who told me I didn't have room in my little closet to put the clones. :wtf: Well people, when someone says you can't do something, you just gotta go prove em wrong! :D
One final note for the day... I am going to need some sort of device to smoke these babies with. Vaporizer, protopipe, bong, glass pipe... I still have no clue. Could those of you with more experience give me a little guidance?
Who the heck said that?Quote:

:greenthumb:
That looks awesome. where are you planning on putting those clones to veg?
I'm new to this forum and this is one of the best threads I've came upon so far...
This thread has been a great read! Congrats on your ladies so far and im hoping for a big harvest! The detail of your procedures has made this thread a great one to follow! Just a couple things to think about...
What are your plans for post-harvest? Are you going to try and start a perpetual harvest? I noticed the dome you out the clones under has a bit of room especially if you transferred clones directly into trays. Cloning is an extremely effective and fast way to multiply your yield... just takes some advanced planning to veg and clone and flower at the same time. Don't mean to be preachy but dont wanna see your harvest fall victim of not planning before planting.
Other than that keep up the good work. Im anxious to see the yield you get from the f5s.
Be Easy
:rasta:
Haha, I'm totally messin with ya man. Yeah, I need another vegging space sooooon! I have a few ideas formulating in my head.Quote:

Whichever original plant has the best combination of a great flavor, a nice high, and gives me a good quantity of bud, that's the clone that will become my mother plant.Quote:

Yeah, there is definitely lots to think about. It's going to be a LOT easier my 2nd, 3rd, 27th grow... I hope the T5's give me something at least decent, cuz I don't really want to buy another light if I don't have to.Quote:

The clones must like the 8W T5, as they all turned directly toward it. I had to move the light to the top of the grow dome. Hopefully they'll straighten out. LOL

I thought HO T5's were 54 watts?....anywho...this is the best use of T5's I've ever seen.....congrats.Quote:

The ladies look great. Clones look great. Grow box has me laughing. The only thing I can see in that picture is the weight propping the fan up. That pic should have a caption on it that reads: "You know you are a stoner when the best use for your dumbbell is a prop." Or at least something along those lines... Idk I am pretty toasted so it is prolly a lot less humorous than I think...
TehNooblet:pimp:
Dutch Pimp, yeah, the HO T5's are 54 watt, however I have a small 8 watt T5 taped to the top of the grow dome. It may be a little hard to see in the picture.
I believe I have a solution to the veg area problem.
I really didn't want to have to create a whole new area to take care of the clones, so I thought and thought, and I believe I can turn the white stand I was using before into a small tent. I'll have to work on it tomorrow... pictures to come.
As for tonight, here are the ladies Camara/Watson/Scarlet
http://img185.imageshack.us/img185/6696/dsc00340v.jpg
I've fallen in love with the citrus smell they leave on my hands after messing with them. Is that weird?
Well it's Wednesday, and you know what that means. Picture day!
Let me start off by saying, this was a busy fucking day. Forgive me if I sound a bit drunk, because I am. It's St. Patty's Day. Concentration on grammar, however, can never be overlooked!
In this post, I'll just show you what the ladies looked like today before starting. The girls got water, and took almost 3 gallons. I wasn't expecting this, and had only pHed and added nutes to 2 gallons of water. Apparently I need to drink milk faster so that I have available jugs. The nutes added were 1.5 teaspoons of Grow Big per gallon for the two gallons that had nutes. The last gallon used was just plain tap, and it was a bit cold. The ladies are very resilient, so I'm not that worried. A little stress here and there is good for em, and they always bounce back stronger than before! :smokin:
http://img692.imageshack.us/img692/1660/dsc00340m.jpg
I needed a new vegging area for the clones. Common knowledge 'round these parts. So, I figure I might as well use what I already got.
I took the stand I was using before to bring the girls up to the light, and turned it into a tent. I had to remove the legs from the bottom, insert them into the top, and flip the stand over.
http://img185.imageshack.us/img185/6283/dsc00341a.jpg
Next I took some panda film and wrapped it around 3 sides of the stand, securing it with duct tape.
http://img269.imageshack.us/img269/1300/dsc00342z.jpg
..and finally I taped a flap to the front of the stand for easy access. Sorry for the over-exposed pic.
http://img139.imageshack.us/img139/9425/dsc00343gy.jpg
Here it is installed above the grow area, on the shelf in the closet.
http://img62.imageshack.us/img62/1889/dsc00344s.jpg
Here is the stand with the flap lifted up. I taped the 8W T5 to the top of the stand, and put in the grow dome that the clones have been in.
http://img245.imageshack.us/img245/5343/dsc00345x.jpg
Ta-Da! I have a vegging area separate from my grow area below. I still need to install some permantent ventilation, which will probably be a muffin fan, and make sure the whole setup is light proof.
As if that wasn't enough for one day, I figured I might as well install the screen for the SCROG.
I bought two 88 cent boards at Lowes to use, and some 99 cent paint to paint them white. Next time I'll use the $1.34 boards, as they are a lot straighter than the warped ones I got!
I measured and cut them to the size of the closet, and stapled them together with a staple gun. Then I added hinges in the middle of the screen so that it folds in half for easier installation/removal. Finally, I stapled on the plastic screen. Why plastic? It won't rust, corrode, or grow mold like metal or string would.
I supported the screen with 3 supports. 1 in the back, and 2 pieces of wood on the sides.
http://img251.imageshack.us/img251/2013/dsc00346rk.jpg
Next I put the plants in, and placed them in the "final" positions. I don't plan to move any of them except Watson, who is still too short for the screen. To put them where I wanted them, a bit of bending was required. This really hurt (me), because the girls are almost perfectly uniform on all sides when you view them from above. This method damn well better increase my yield!
http://img297.imageshack.us/img297/8854/dsc00347ln.jpg
Here is a final pic with everything put back into the closet. I'm obviously going to need a new fan situation.
http://img121.imageshack.us/img121/9886/dsc00348y.jpg
Phew, long day. Happy St. Patty's everyone!
I ran all over the place looking for some fans that fit well into the closet. I really didn't like what I found, so I'll look again tomorrow at a few other places.
The picture for tonight... Camara/Watson/Scarlet
http://img694.imageshack.us/img694/716/dsc00351rx.jpg
Note: Some of the lower leaves are starting to yellow due to the plants being so bushy, and the bottom leaves not getting enough light. I'm wondering if I should just trim them off myself, or let them yellow and die.
I wouldn't bother the yellow leaves...the plant with suck the nutes out of them and discard them...
...then they will pull off with a slight tug...
Or you could just buy a few cfl's and throw around the bottom of the plants and you wont have that issue anymore! lol They look awesome man! I can't wait to see them in flower.
TehNooblet
im loving it. well done:thumbsup:
Yeah, I think I'll just let the yellow leaves die off. It'll make it easier to water since those bottom leaves are so low that they just sit on the dirt. All I really care about is having a good canopy at the screen level.
I'm getting antsy guys. I really want to fill out the screen more, but I also want to go to flower soon! Suggestions?
Camara/Watson/Scarlet
http://img297.imageshack.us/img297/8479/dsc00352o.jpg
Here are the clones at 5 days. They still seem nice and green. There aren't any roots poking out the bottom of the cups, so I'm just misting the leaves with water daily and spraying the top of the soil to keep it moist. How long is this process supposed to take again?
http://img85.imageshack.us/img85/9312/dsc00354rw.jpg
It's been a while since I checked in and man the girls look great! I like how you are scrogging the peppers too!
As for the flower or not question, with the size of screen you have you might want to fill it in for another week max, but once the 12/12 hits there will be extreme stretch and they will fill in the screen quicker than you realise!
The clones should take 1-2 weeks average to root, so it's not long now!
Again, awesome work with the gals & super clean setup.
I would say you should flower asap and worry more about scrogging more in a later grow. You are running short on room and obviously it isn't going to a little harvest for you. That is just my 2c...
I really like how you are going about this grow. You are doing HELLA good for your first grow.
TehNooblet:pimp:
P.S. I don't know much about scrogging, but could you just lower your screen to fill it in more?
Thanks for the info red. I look at the clones every day, still no roots out the bottom.
n00b, I'm takin your advice. Tomorrow morning the lights go out. I'm doing the dark cycle during the day to help even out the heat, and the lights come on about 8:30pm. 12/12.
I installed the 3000k T5 bulbs today... so I've got four 3000k bulbs, and two 6500k bulbs in the 6 bulb light.
http://img641.imageshack.us/img641/1834/dsc00355tt.jpg
The girls are a little bit different color under the "orange" lights. I prefer their look under the 6500k bulbs.

http://img156.imageshack.us/img156/379/dsc00358u.jpg
Oh, and that skinny fan in the corner was only $9 at Walmart. It's a lot louder than the previous fan, but fits in the room a whooooole lot better and moves a lot of air. Definitely recommended if you're lookin for a new cheap fan.
Here's a question for anyone out there reading... If I cut off the large fan leaves, it would allow more light to get to the newer growth, which will probably be my bud sites eventually. Do you recommend getting rid of the leaves, or just leave em be?
I have cut a few of my leaves off after putting to flower and the spots that were uncovered have flourished... My three ladies have probably had 3 leaves cut off each. I didn't really want to, but the bud sites just weren't getting the light they needed and the leaves wouldn't stay bent back so I chopped 'em...
Everyone has different opinions, but the majority says not to cut the fans off...
The ladies look good, but they seem a little stressed. Did you notice any change after you installed the new lights?
TehNooblet:pimp:
Well it's Sunday.... ;)
Looks like I'll just go ahead and leave those fan leaves on there. I don't want the gas to go directly to the tires, I need that engine.
n00b, I'm not sure whatcha mean about them bein stressed. To me, they look as good as ever, but keep in mind this is my first grow so I might be oblivious to the obvious.

What scrogging does to your nice, straight, uniform, pretty plant stems... :(

The canopy is filling in slow but sure.
http://img222.imageshack.us/img222/3641/dsc00368wp.jpg
Possible deficiency or overdose of somethin? Purple spots on the stem.
http://img413.imageshack.us/img413/3716/dsc00359e.jpg
...and finally, a pepper update. The girlfriend calls her Cheyenne the Cayenne. So clever that one...
http://img62.imageshack.us/img62/4171/dsc00366br.jpg
The cool thing about the pepper, is that you can see the leaves on it get lighter and lighter green as you go down the plant. It really shows you that you gotta keep your plants as close to the light as possible without burnin em!
Note: I think I've found the bong I want to get. It's a delta-9, exactly like this one but maybe 2 inches taller and 7mm glass (so the salesman tells me). $110 at Venice Beach.
