Afgani - Secret Closet CFL Grow, First real Attempt
Ok so my big problem is she keeps getting taller and taller.
As of today I measured her at 33 inches high.
I have had to raise my shelf that holds all my clip lamps up all the way and have added dvd under the shelf to raise it even higher and still not enough.
I changed my light setup and added a few reflectors to keep the light directed at the plant. I have 4 lamps surrounding her. All four lamps have Y splitters. In each lamp I have 1 23watt and 1 40watt. 2 of the 40 watt bulbs are 4100kalvin bulbs and I have set it up so they are across each other with the other 2 lamps each having 1 23watt 2700kalvin and 1 40watt 2700kalvin I then have 3 more 23 watt bulbs at the top shining light onto the main cola thus putting out 21600 lumens all around her.
So. I dunno what to do really. I have about 6 dvds under her as I raised the shelf as High as I could to avoid have to do so again and I could probably get it another few inchs higher but still wtf. Is it possible to cut the main stem and make a cuttin/clone out of her?
Does anyone have any ideas on what I could try.
Not only that I was advised to put mylar or tinfoil under the plant and over the dirt to help with light reflections for the bottom leaves. I tried it out. Seems that all it does is keep the top soil more moist. Today when I removed to water, I noticed some fuzzy looking white stuff, I touched it and it seemed to be roots, upon further inspections it was, there was not much but it looked like some roots were comming up. Anyone had this before.
Here are some pics from yesturday.

Cuttings look worse today.

Afgani - Secret Closet CFL Grow, First real Attempt
of course you should give them another go. don't get discouraged, you gained experience.
don't worry about it and don't get caught up in the hype. i took four clones from a lady 3+ weeks into flower. i cut them off with a tiny pair of nail scissors, scraped about an inch of the skin off of the bottom of the cutting, dipped them into superthrive and plopped them into miracle grow soil. no misting, no dome, no nothing. 100% success rate.
i'm not saying all of those things won't increase your success rate, but don't live and die by it all. find what works for you.
the only failure would be not to try again.

Agreed. Im going to try and revive these little ones. Going to get a dome in the morning and see what I can work. Not going to give up, and I see where your coming from about doing it which everway, it only sounds like those things would make for stronger and more successful cloneing, and again, you learn from doing, and sometimes have to find out only by doing so, im doing lol. I got pissed today and took them out. Left them in the kitchin on the table, will throw em back in in the morning. Thank for the imput Shake, I appreciate it.

I have a funny story. It was funny to me at least.
This morning I went to canadain tire and got this nifty 36 pelet greenhouse. The base is a 36 holder of these little peat pelet discs and has a maze type water path so you just water the base and it goes everywhere.
I decided to give the cuttings one more go.
I had actually left enough room to cut of what I had originally done and scarify properly. Already since this morning they are looking much better, arms are getting stronger and leaves are getting less rubbery.
On the side of my height issue. Has anyone any ideas on what I should do?
-
Afgani - Secret Closet CFL Grow, First real Attempt
Yeah, I wasn;t really too careful with my clones either... and I also took some about 3 weeks into flower as well, they did take longer to root than the first batch though.
All I did was snip them off with regular garden sheers (very sharp ones), i dropped them in a cup of regular water for a couple minutes.
then i cut off the extra stem using a diagonal cut, dripped in rooting horme (shultz powdery stuff), made a pencil sized hole in the soil about 1/2 - 1" deep, stuck the cutting in the soil and packed dirt up around the stem.
i did find the humidity domes did alot for me though... mine got really really droopy without them

Afgani - Secret Closet CFL Grow, First real Attempt
As for the height problem... really not too sure, its too late to LST it i think, certainly too late to top/FIM.
they should stop stretching at some point, but its hard to say when

Thanks for the imput syde. Ya Iv read that it should stop going up. Well see. Ya I didnt really read to much up on fming or topping. Its all good I think. I never did tell my story tho. While I was looking around at stuff I put my keys down as I had burned a bit before leaving and I was at the cash and started stressing out then the woman started counting her till and I was almost late for work and wow it was a stressful morning. All good tho. One thing I was thinking. The clones are in the same room as my 12/12 should I give them 24/0 or will they be ok in 12/12?

are they cuttings or rooted clones? If they are rooted they can go directly into 12/12
-
Afgani - Secret Closet CFL Grow, First real Attempt
place cuttings under 24/0 (or 18/6, that's what i used). 12/12 and they will continue to flower.
keep in mind that clones don't need much light at all. so you can keep them under a CFL or two until they root as they won't be doing much up top until they have roots.

Afgani - Secret Closet CFL Grow, First real Attempt
What Im asking is more can I leave them under 12/12 even tho they will continue to flower. Or are you suggesting that I go back to 18/6 and get them bigger then flower again? I mean all i wanted to do was potentially get more bud on the lower branches. I can deffinitly say they are doing better. Ill put a pic up in a few days
-
Afgani - Secret Closet CFL Grow, First real Attempt
the cuttings should be under 18/6 or 24/0 - but they don;t need nearly the intensity that normal plants do... a CFL or 2 even like 10" away should be fine
-
Afgani - Secret Closet CFL Grow, First real Attempt
Ok so, I should put them under 18/6 or 24/0 to induce veg again? Thats what Im getting. Also that if I leave them in 12/12 it will only take longer for the roots to take, which is why, even tho I cut them 3 weeks into flower I need to put them back on 18/6 to get them to root and then I would switch them back over to 12/12.
Im curious still for my next grow.
Im going to get feminized seeds and germinate 1. and correct me if Im wrong as Im unsure of what Im doing, BUT, ill lst it and grow it for a few weeks to get lots of nodes? arms? then I will take cuttings? and then grow those female cuttings bigger still running them on veg lighting, and continue into flower. That is what a mother plant is, a plant that you grow and take cuttings from and get more plants that will be female???
I hope Im correct.
Anyways. Buds are getting nice and fat. Lots of tricomes forming. I do have a question as well about the leaves, they are curling down and inwards. I think it might have to do with PH, but the pot im using is really hard to get a runoff ph plus the plant is huge haha. Any clues?/

Afgani - Secret Closet CFL Grow, First real Attempt
Well Im just starting week 5. 4 Weeks to go. There are a couple of things that I need some advice on. I have not flushed my girl yet. Ever. And Im thinking I need to. What is the best way to do this? Ive herd that I should "flush" with the correct pH'd water and its easiest in the tub, any suggestions. My girl is about 35-36 inches in height now, so its gonna be a bit hard to move her around. My next thing is the pot im using. Its big, but not as big as I think I could go. Would it be advised to do a super careful transplant this far along?
Im also concerned somewhat about the sugar leaves growing around the buds. The sides of each leaf peddel is starting to curl inwards.
[attachment=o222506]
The next issue is Im finding quite a few of these really small, really mini small winged flys. They arnt flys, but they fly around. They arent eatting anything, and I cant see that they are causing any damage, but they are anoying and I want them out damit. Ill take a pic in the morning of the bugs, as for now here are some pics of where shes at now.

Yes, flush with Ph corrected water, but wait for the soil to dry out reallllly well before you do and flush with 2X's the amount of water to your container.
You could always just bring some type of tray that can hold a far amount of water into the room and just put them in there, water, drain...etc.
No Transplants during flower what-so-ever! :D
The "flies" are probably gnats which don't do nothing, but bug the shit outta ya and stick to your buds! Just go at them with hand-to-hand combat!

So when flushing, Im yet to get a straight answer about this but, flushing is when you over water and let the excess water just run off. It helps to filter out the plant and correct ph by using correctly phd water. Yes???? And its advised to do between once a week and once a month and 2 weeks before you stop using nutes right???

Flushing gets rid of the built up salts in the soil and any nutes previously added. I usually do it every 3-4 waterings, depending on how the ladies are taking the nutes.
I wouldn't really use the word over water because that is what you do when you give your plants too much water over time (soil staying wet).
I flush 3 weeks prior to harvest. Two weeks of flushing then the last week for the "pre-drying" time(which means don't water the last week before harvest). Basically it aids in helping the plant dry a bit faster and break down the chlorophyll better.

Wow, looking nice! It's a little late but congrats on your new marriage!!! The flies are probably just fungus gnats. The larvae take a little bite out of your roots but they don't do much damage except maybe on the youngest seedlings. They are annoying and they get stuck to the buds that's no fun. :) I don't know a way to get rid of them which is less harmful than the flies themselves. I know for sure I don't want pesticide in my bud.

Thanks stinky, I actually am enjoying her a bit right now, I was 3 weeks into flower and took already flowering cuttings and attempted to clone them but none developed any roots within the week so I took em out and dryed them, just smoked now, bit chlorphylish tasting but I feel bussed.
Thanks for the imput JD, and thanks for the congrats. Married life is good, Im loving it  Im not sure what I have are gnats. Any I dont really have a bug problem, yet, theres only been like 5-7 at any time that Iv been able to see and kill. they spend no time eating leaves are are found nowhere in the buds, they actually chill in the dirt, which makes sence b.c thats where gnats come from, but they look more pungent, like chubby lol, not as big of wings, gnats look kinda like mosquittoes, Ill take a pic later on and do some googleing.
Thanks all:thumbsup:

Hey guys, things are looking up I guess.
I flushed her on saturday and shes looking good for the most part.
[attachment=o223000]
I got a pic finally of those little buggers.[attachment=o222999]
All these little dudes do is chill on the dirt. I did find a few on the very bottom of the stem but all there doing is flying around. Any clues on what they are and what I should do?
Something else that Ive never experienced before, for some reason Im finding roots very close to the surface of the dirt. I did fill it up when I re potted her but I dunno, theres not alot just a few, so I threw some more dirt over top an inch or so, hopefully that helps. Anyone had this before?
Not only that but I was wondering about nutes and mold and fungus and things that can happen to leaves. The very bottom of the plant I found 3 leaves that had some wierd splotching, so I cut them off. They were small whole fan leaves and only the pair of two opposite each other had it. It kinda looked like when you pinch a leaf between your thumb and pointer, you can see your fingerprint when the pigment gets compressed, its darker, it looks like that but blotchy. I dont have a pick but if more occurs I will post. Now things to be aware of, I have been watering with 1/4 nutes and am using MG time release soil. I found that after the 3rd water the leaves were getting really deep dark and the tips were getting a bit yellow so that is when I flushed on saturday. Now Im finding a few leaves that look lighter green. Im going to just go back to regular watering with brita water that sat out for 24 hours.
Some pics.

Im not sure exactly what it is to be honest lol. I got these seeds randomly when I went to pickup one night, was tellin my bud how expensive seeds were and someother guy showed up around the same time and was like "your trying to grow, here" and tossed me 8 afgani seeds and told me they have an 8 week flowering period. So lol ya. Its looking really nice tho, alot of trichomes all over, I have 21 days left as of today until expected harvest. Thanks for stoping by gigity:jointsmile:

Very pretty plants you have there. How strong is the smell in the grow area?
-
Afgani - Secret Closet CFL Grow, First real Attempt
its pretty danky lol, I have a carbon scrubber on the inside and have air being pulled out threw it, so it doesnt smell that much, usually by the end of the day it smells like i got a bag of dank and left it open with a fan on in my room. In the morning it doesnt smell at all, but once I open the doors for 20 mins for fresh air my whole app has an odour, thank god for insence sticks, nag champa to the resque.

Thanks for stopping by michael, you can man, this is my first girl ever, if i can do it so can you, unless of course you cant due to location, or who you live with, but its really easy, a lil tlc and make sure your shits correct, temps, ph, watering, and some good light, your good to go, Ive spent under 200 dollars on my setup and have just as good as a 250 watt hps Id say, final pics will be yummy.

Much thanks Shake and jlve. Yep shes getting big, but I know I could have gotten her wayyyyy bigger
I have about 2 weeks left until harvest. Iv been thinking of letting her go another week but I cant wait. Infact, I ran out of bud and my guy wasnt home soooooo, I clipped off a small bud around the bottom middle, prolly a .4 .5 mini nug. Didnt even dry her. Tasted tasty, burned like wet weed, and gave me a pudding brain high. I am happy. I dont have a microscope cam but from looking at the pics I can tell the trichs are getting cloudy. I havnt looked into how you can tell, but from what Im supposed to be looking for and since shes frosty like the snowman its hard not to tell.

wonderful plant, Bub! I strongly suggest that you properly finish your product before you smoke much more of it. With a proper dry and even a few weeks of cure the difference is like night and day. Buy a bag to get by and really enjoy the fruits of your tlc.
good luck!

Thanks for the kind words shovelhandle. Ya I feel really dumb doing that actually, Ive now broken the wait chain and already started sampeling and even being wet and not cured she has a sweet greenish :D taste to her and looks like the best weed Ive laid my hands on. Shes so sticky, I cant even get the resin off my fingers its like glue. I strongly agree with you tho, I need to let her fully mature before anymore smoking and I did get a bag haha.
Ive decided that I am going to cut the massive donkey dick off in 1.5 weeks, so I moved all my lights higher to focus on the main stem cola and once the time is up Im going to cut the main stem about halfway down, just to get the top off and then Im going to flower all the bottom buds another 2 weeks or so.
I flushed today, 6.2 phd water and runoff comes out exactly the same, shes doing great. Im actually using straight brita filtered water, its great cuz the filter softens and nutralizes the ph in the water, my tap water is high 7 ph, once filtered 6.2-3 ph and it kills/takes care of the chlorine in the water so I can water with it right away. I know its still a good idea to get the water room temp but I just use water that feels luc warm/cool and it seems to be fine.
I am curious about one thing that noone has been able to answer. If the air being blown on the plant is cold but temps are warmer will the fan leave branches turn purpleish? Not only that but even if my temp was 80-84F but the air being pulled in was much cooler can that cause the leaves to curl downwards and inward, drooping down a bit, but more curling down and in around the edges? Shes doing fine tho, I mean hell shes looking like a beast, im just curious as this is my first grow there is always room for improvement.
