let's see, i've been working on the setup, and another project as well. not to mention i can't do much when people are over, which sucks. they always want to chill. lol.
and i have been having some computer problmes too.

what's good everybody? here is the long awaited update! sorry to keep everyone waiting. stuff has been pretty nuts. anyway, here goes:
i built a new mom/clone box. the dimensions are like 18.5 x 18.5 x 24 (l x w x h). i just through in a 3-light vanity bar, 3x Y splitters, 2 x 2700K; 1600 lumen bulbs, 4x 6500K; 1600 lumen bulbs.
i found a pack of four, 120mm pc fans for $15 at fry's. they move plenty of air, something like 42CFM and run at 19.6dB. used two of them and a 12VDC power converter.
i used a hot glue gun and glued black panty hose over the intake and exhaust. they seem to do a good job of keeping the light out.
i picked up two, six inch fans. i put one in the old box and one in the new. the old box actually dropped in temp (the intakes are arranged with one on each side, one in the back with the exhaust up top). the new box temp raised by 10 degrees! (this one has the whole intake in the back with the exhaust up top.) any ideas here?
i transplanted the 8 flowering ladies into 3-gallon pots. so 4 of them are currently occupying the mom/clone box!
the other 4 remained in the old flower box.
all of the youngsters are doing fine. they are nice and big. i would have taken a pic but they are in the 36-hour darkness period before i switch them to 12/12.
i plan on putting on of the new computer fans on the old flower box. i am also gonna hot glue black panty hose over the intakes and exhaust.
the ladies are looking okay. i trimmed some leaves (bad i know). they were pretty messed up though.
i think i have updated about the water pH situation.
the ladies buds don't seem to be getting much bigger. i'm sure it's just a worry-some papa. they still have a few weeks to go.
i think that's about it. if i'm forgetting anything i'm sure someone will remind me! forgive me a again as i'm a little under the weather today.

buds look good man! new box is coming along great. the heat problem is probably airflow. the air is forming a pocket where it acts like a whirlpool spinning. try moving some stuff around.

But wouldn't the black pantie hose restrict airflow? o.o And I try to be sincere and funny, but somehow light hearted. Either way, I love the cardboard grow mansion. hey shake -
your temp problem in the new box is the oscillating fan. those cpu fans work great, when they don't have to move already-moving air. if you can get by without the fan in there, do it. otherwise, you'll have to reconfigure its location, since you already have the exhausts in place.
another tip for temp control: intake at least 2x as big as exhaust. i'd do 3x or 4x with the pantyhose though.
everything is looking good, bud. that hermie saddens me. if you pick up some butane or acetone, you could salvage it in some hash.

yeah, i don't run the fan in the new box anymore. it stays 78-80 without, so really no need.
i only have a 1:1 intake/exhaust ratio at the moment. i don't want to put too many holes in my box. maybe i'll add another intake on each side.
can you point me in the right direction for a tutorial on using the butane or acetone to make hash?

Sorry, but I can't see how your "filters" are light tight. I tried 6 layers of black hose, held it up to a 100w incandescent and you could see pin-points of light all over.
On a brighter note, you've got some great results from a small, inexpensive grow box, and I'm impressed. Maybe just a little work on air in and air out and you could avoid the hermie issue.
Shake - I'm sorry to read about the hermie. Your grow box is pretty sweet - to eliminate light problems I've seen other folks use PVC elbow joints turned down across which I imagine you could use the innovative black pantyhose - Boy, your grow box has a panty on its head!

these are all bag beans. and once a plant hermies the seeds have a tendency to do the same.
therefore, that's why i believe it was genetic.

jakezking, yeah i've seen people do that. and it works. i'm just done putting any money into this setup. i am not gonna spend any more money until i am ready to build a "proper" setup with an HPS, real fans and the like.

shake, I had to throw in a "Raising Arizona" quote, though I flubbed it, since you used pantyhose on your box - "Son, you got a panty on your head...." hey shake, what did you figure out on your hermie? you gonna smoke it or make hash?
i've been smoking it, er, some of it. it's in a brown paper sack at the moment drying.
i have absolutely zero dollars at the moment. as a matter of fact i just cashed in all of my pennies at a coinstar machine. all seven dollars and eighty-one cents worth. lol.
so no butane at the moment. i would like to make some.
i did try to make some bubble hash with the trimmings from the last grow. it didn't go so well. but i didn't have any screen or bags or anything.
i do plan on getting a set of bags someday.
i feel so overwhelmed. lol.

no doubt! i'd love to have a set of bags. i've never tried butane. I use everclear to make my hash using the "green dragon" method. I let it evaporate down to gummy resin, but it's also nice to take a couple of shots before i start cooking it down.

Isn't that our dream? A hole room. Divided down the middle. 1 side equipped with your personal HPS preference. Other side equipped with your personal MH preference, along with all your HUGE 4' Mums, and the closet loaded with CFL's for the 3 different propagation trays. 2 strains per tray. 15 clones of 1 strain put into flower every 2 weeks, starting with your indicas working your way up to the super hazes. . Haha. Fantasies...fantasies.

what's good everyone? i know i said there would be an update last night, yet there obviously wasn't. sorry. i have been a bad grow log keeper and should be punished.
okay, back from my flogging! and here is the update.
i decided to chop the ladies down. i know, i know. they could have and should have went at least another week to 10 days. but i say the sativa (or sativa dom) was nothing but a seedy mess so i chopped all of them. i cleaned both boxes well with a bleach/water solution.
i didn't take a wet weight, but i'll ring in with a dry total. i let it hang dry for four days or so and then put it into brown paper sacks. today i put them into mason jars.
on the up-and-comers front, they have been flowering for a bit now. they seem to be taking there time showing their privates. they have some nerve!
i put for the four "dank" plants that got chopped back into veg. i want to get clones from miss gnarly. i know it's impossible to tell her lineage, but i'm pretty sure she was/is white widow. either way, she looked nice. plus it's time to learn how to clone! especially if there are new beans in the future!

p.s. the ladies look a little droopy because i let them dry out to transplant. they are in the black, square pots now.
