Shov's Christmas Sativas 2008
Just repotted yesterday. Plants seem to have no stress so far. I've never had any transplant problems but these didn't release from the old pots all that well. I lightly watered them in with a little Superthrive. I'll give them a nute feeding later tonight.

Hey Shov.
Are those plants really 5 weeks old?
They look healthy and all but very small for that age aren't they?
Mine looked like this after 5 weeks and I did take clones from all of them.
http://i314.photobucket.com/albums/l...r/e150fbde.jpg
Maybe the coco and the 600W HPS I used in veg do you think they grew slower than normally in veg?
I hope you understand I mean no offence, I just wanna understand what different techniques and strains bring to the table.
Keep up the good work and your super nice logs m8.

Shov's Christmas Sativas 2008
I agree, they are not as mature as my last two grows. I did try using just the T-5s up until yesterday. Most everything else, exept the seeds was the same. I kind of doubt that it was all because of the 216 watts of light (instead of 600-700 watts) because the seedlings did not sprout or flourish as well as any grows I can remember. Anyway, I hope with adding the 400 W MH and the transpanting into large pots that they will take off, eh? And I was worrying about the Neville's Haze getting too big during veg. Huh. :wtf:

Here's the last grow of Bubblegum hybrid fems.
[attachment=o201767]
Yup, Much, Much nicer. I think the extra light should pick them. Now, these next plants are afghani at the same period that were also under just florescent lights. Same for the next photo of some Bubblegum, also under just the florescents. So, compared to this, the present grow is doing well. It's in the lighting then. Ya think?

Shov's Christmas Sativas 2008
I think so yes.
I have a good exemple here actually.
I have clones from those plants that I linked. They are in soon in week 6 since they started vegetative growth and even though they had a head start (being rooted clones instead of sprouting seeds) they are about half the size from what the seed plants vegged under HPS were after 5 weeks.
Exact same genetic, same medium, same nutes different lights.
The first time I vegged with 600W HPS (flower spectrum)
Second time 125W cfl (veg spectrum)
So in my case I woul loose at least 2 weeks in veg and even then the CFL plants would have been less compact and more stretchy.
I would gain on the electricity though but no even enough to cover 3-4 grams of nice sinsemilla. ;) I think I gained more than that for sure with the HPS.
You seem to have the same experience, right?

Shov's Christmas Sativas 2008
It seems so. I use 400 HPS flower and 400 MH conversion for veg. I used 216 watts (4 x 4') of T-5s for sidelighting with the correct spectum tubes for grow and flower. When they filled the 1 sq meter area I added two 42 watt CFLs to the other side. I got 500gm of bud out of the 1 meter².
The AKs are larger than the haze, but they will finish at least a month after the AKs.

Shov's Christmas Sativas 2008
man the grow is looking beautiful.......looks like christmas will be nice for u too......i love the mop buckets.....im using them with the haze im growing but starting to have stability issues now that the plants are around 7'.
-
Shov's Christmas Sativas 2008
Thanks, the haze are in 3 gallon pails the AKs, except the runt are in 5 gallon pails. The Haze will get moved into at leat 5 gallon eventually.
Tanke care, Bub!

Shov's Christmas Sativas 2008
just commenting on some earlier posts. those ak's sure do seem small but with only the t5s i wouldn't expect them to be all that big anyway. just because i've been using a 400wmh for veg, and the extra light really pays off in size. my tallest is 18inch and they're all around 37 days old give or take. on an 18/6
and yeah shov, idk why but my one ww and 2 aks are growing 10 leaflets. they look crazy big lol. those cuttings did look superb btw, i hope they produce well. dont think i myself will be cloning since we have 30+ girls now, most likely 20 - males.
so those are only under the 400mh now? or are the t5s and cfls still playing a role? keep up the good work, i'll be back soon

Shov's Christmas Sativas 2008
yep, it was an experiment. I now believe that the 400 MH is needed for max growth after the first week or two. Right now I have the T-5s for side lighting and the 400 MH about 18" from the canopy. Yes, the cuttings are still looking fine (well, one is a little less fine, but it only has a one inch stem.)
The 400W really has made a rapid improvement in growth rate!
Thanks,
Shol

Shov's Christmas Sativas 2008
lol, that was a quick reply.
nice to see someone else is up. and yes, the more light the better. i do think i'll pick up a set of t5s for the early weeks of growth and clones for my next grow since the MH is a bit strong for the little guys. these strains are just outstanding, really glad someone of your caliber is growing them. i know you can't wait till xmas lol.
have a great day big guy, stay

The plants look nice Shov, gonna be a great grow for sure....how long do you gonna veg em?? And you gonna use the same nutes right? I found that Bat Guano did a great job on my plants, maybe you too should give it a try on one of the plants...
Anyway, looks good so far, keep it up....:hippy:

Shov's Christmas Sativas 2008
Same nutes, except Technoflora now has cal/mag a sweet product and other micro/specialty nutes in their menu.
I'm hoping to find out some info on the NH I bought from marijuana-seeds dot com to see who bred them. I was reading on IC that the Mr. Nice people and Greenhouse Seeds people argue about who's is better (or if they are any good at all). AKs should be ready for Christmas smoking, if the NH are true to form they will be month or more later.

Shov's Christmas Sativas 2008
Well considering that the plants haven't really all grown that large, for six weeks I'm thinking I may go seven or eight weeks before I flip them. I just checked on them and the temp was over 90* so I opened a door, added another fan across the plants and removed some of the reflectors to improve air flow. The plants were actually looking pretty good though.
Clones are doing ok too. I may pot them this weekend.
-
Shov's Christmas Sativas 2008
I was watching the grow closely today as I was trying to lower the temperature (yep, got it down to 80* on the canopy right now. But, I saw what a grower hates to see, one of the better two Neville's Haze, it's pot upside down on the floor. The plant was hardly visible under the pile of soil. SHIT! At leaset it was only a matter of a couple of hours at most, and all the roots were covered. No broken stems or branches, maybe a leaf or two.
IHIWTH,
Shov

Shov's Christmas Sativas 2008
I don't mind a little challenge and this grow has had a couple/few. I'm still feeling good about it though. I'll veg them for a few more weeks. That way the clones should be stabile enough to put into 12/12 with the big plants.
I tossed the midget AK the other day so I have 4 NH and 5 AK. If I have 50% fem (4 or five plants) I can fit another 4-6 of the AK clones in there to finish with them. I guess I'll not take any NH clones this time. I have no room for a separate area for vegging them.
-
Shov's Christmas Sativas 2008
I am begining to wonder about that 50% ratio.
Remember my situation and your last. I am begining to think it is more like 75% or more now with breeders seeds.
What you think?
-
Shov's Christmas Sativas 2008
well, my previous grows have been mostly my own inbred/crossbred seeds. Last grow was all female due to feminized seeds from a female pollinated by a hermi. Results were very good, I had very few seeds, if any in my crop. Others grown out by friends had no seeds at all. I did have a stash of Bubblegum seeds that I've gone through and given away. I believe that I've had much better than 50/50 in every grow. Tips I've tried and continue to use are, don't use shallow pots for seedlings (those little four ounce peat or plastic pots) and to use cold well water.
Now this is my first grow with foreign seeds. The germination was pretty traumatic it seemed with only a 50% germ rate due to too warm of temperature. I sowed the seeds over a period of two weeks, so some of the plants are actually younger than posted. I guess we will see and document the resuts.
Thanks,
Sho

I've been 'playing in the band' on you tube a bit lately. Workingman's Dead was put out when I got out of HS and had my first apartment. Good Times!
I was like a local 'Capt. Trips myself at the time. <g>

Shov's Christmas Sativas 2008
Better to be Captain Trips than Captain Thrips... :D
Looking good, and I see you are planning another bumper crop of beastly bushes, and that they are already well on their way. Are you going to finish them in 5's or move up one more time into feed tubs before flower?

Shov's Christmas Sativas 2008
Shove I know this has nothing to do with your grow but as a deadhead to another it was just announced all the former members of the Grateful Dead and Warren Haynes are getting together for a spring tour. Just wanted to pass that on to you.:hippy:
Maybe they would play Highgate, VT again:thumbsup: saw them there both times.

Shov's Christmas Sativas 2008
At least five gallons for every female But, I have a 1 meter sq. area and right now there are nine four to six week old plants plus I potted nine AK-47 clones, two of each of the largest AKs. Depending on sex, I may have 10 females and 5 gallon would be max unless I repot the NH when I harvest the AK. The NH may take a month or more to finish though I've not repotted a flowering mj before.
-
Shov's Christmas Sativas 2008
I took two slips from each of the two lankier NHs. The other two are doing great but are just a low down tight ball of leaves. Branches are not even long enough to cut. The AK clones seem to be doing pretty well. There are nine of them.
I had to replace one of the T-5 ballasts today. Temp have been 80* all day. I plan to flip them in one more week.

Shov's Christmas Sativas 2008
Plants are looking very healthy. They are growing better now that I've added the 400 watt MH.
This am I fed them all 3/4 potency nutes. I had previously given the Aks full and the N Haze half. The NH didn't blink but some lower leaves on the AKs looked yellowing. I thought that I'd be cautious with the Haze as I've read that they are not usually big feeders. However, I now wonder exactly who's strain of Neville's Haze do I have. The seedbank (marijuana-seeds dot nl) wouldn't say, I looked around and I think that it may be White Label or the Neville's Haze that is crossed with Jack Herer as marijuana-seeds dot nl list the flowering time as 6-9 weeks!?? I don't know. Any ideas?
Anyway, for the Neville's Haze I have two stretchy plants and a squat plant. One tall one and the sqaut one have FAT leaves. One has 11 segmet leaves.
The five AK-47s ( I pitched out the runt awhile back) are branching out nicely. The FIM worked out well, a few plants have 2 tops and a few have four tops.

Can't tell you for sure about the Neville's Haze.......but I about lit my straight Hazes on fire by feeding them the same nutes as the AK's. The AK's love it but the pure haze plants curled out and almost croaked.......I spent the day flusing the excess nutes out of them and now go pretty light with mine. I'm just not sure about the Neville's Haze; only the regular Haze.
PS.....The SNL x NH's I grow take full strength nutes and love it but they ARE a cross so not sure how much difference that makes.

Shov, your plants are super fly, dude! Glad to see them thriving so well, and I was floored to see how much they have grown. I didn't realize it had been so long since last I browsed your thread. I wish you continued good luck and great enjoyment for the rest of your grow. Be good out there, my friend!
-
Shov's Christmas Sativas 2008
Yep. time flies.
I germed all of the seeds (2 packs or 10) I have 5 of one and four of the other doing pretty well. I have a few clones of all the AKs and 2 of the 4 NevHaz. I'm not really sure that I did get a good pheno of the haz but all the Ak seem quite stabilized , they're all very similar. And I still have to see what sex these are.
Here's a crap pic of the AKs (right) and the newbie NevNaz (left)

two nevhaz and one AK-47 are showing FEM. These are the first sex sightings. I have two clones of the AK fem, I forgot to look for one of the NH to see if it had been cut. So, I plan to carry on and flip them...very soon. I'm going away next weekend and I have some work to finish on Thurs and Friday. Maybe tomorrow or wed I'll change the timer and the lamps.

I moved them to a corner to continue 18-6 for a while. Most seem to be doing ok. The newer cuts, NevHaz are in the tent.
