Fourth of July Crop
I made a decent size batch. Just used a little to repot a couple o' plants and the rest is for the next grow. I like to get the stuff when it's available local because I do run out too. And then I have to make a trip to Big City to get some of the ingredients. Also, it's hard to mix all that up in the shed in the winter. :(

Looking real nice Shov. How tall are they?
They look ready to flower but I see you still have some horizontal space. I wait untill 3/4 of horizontal space is full, I keep my plants LSTed to no higher than 8'' untill I can't see the bucket looking strait down. Then let them veg vertically until they are 12'' to 16'' tall. this all takes around 6 to 8 weeks.
Just something you may want to try. oh yeh forgot one thing. something else I do is trim the fan leaves that cover any new branch top from direct light. This is 90% of the time the ones that point strait up when you LST and I remove them at that time. Branches seem to grow quicker when I do that.

Fourth of July Crop
I don't know how tall they are. A couple were snapped off so those are shorter. A few are "S" shaped and those are the bigger plants. The shorter plants may be 10" tall?
Maybe it's a optical illusion, but looking from the top the horizontal plane is pretty green and dense already. The footprint of the twelve pails as close to touch is 48" x 32". I feel that the one 400 Watt HPS is stretched as it is to cover that area and as the plants grow taller the light may not penetrate to all the bud sites. I really didn't think that I'd be finishing all the plants when I started. I'm not used to having 100% healthy females.
I have the 2' x 4' four tube T5 for side lighting and will have to use a couple of CFLs or a 4' florescent to add light to the other side. I've grown experimenting with lots of ideas, this grow is diff as I'm not FIM or cropping at all, just LST. I don't want to trim fan leaves at this time. I did trim quite a bit of the bottom branches, as I've found this effective.

Yeh I realize there are going to be differences between our grows ( ex. light, space, ect. ) But 12 in that space is going to be cramped. I can't fit more than 9 plants in 5 gal. buckets in a 48''x48'' space under a 600 watt HPS.
Also when you say bottom branches do you mean the small weak looking ones that grow from nodes facing the dirt or the ones that form from the first nodes? Reason I ask is the branches that form from the lower nodes produce the largest colas except for the main cola that forms from the main shoot.

Btw that is a White Widow cola.

I realize that. I explained how that came to be and I really do not have a solution except to 86 a few of those plants. I can't get myself to do that and I dodn't want too expand to another grow area. If I did I might let them veg until I could get them outdoors. Eventually I will have to deal with removing some of those plants, but there aren't any that deserve to die.
As far as cutting the bottom branches, I usually end up cutting the bottom branches eventually as they become totally shaded and produce little. I've cut as much as six of the branches off the bottoms with no loss of buddage.
I really appreciate you continued input, JG. This is not my first "load of pumpkins", I've been growing outdoors off and on for forty years, annually for the past eight or so. The indoor grows are failry new to me. I've learned just about everything I know in the past two years. Much of that knowledge from folks like you. Thanks.
So, what to do with the extra plants? Last Spring I threw some females out...hated to do that.

It would be a real shame to trow out such beautiful & healthy plants...and you can't put them out because it's still too cold...:(

Plants are all 12-14" tall, except for one shorty, 10" tall. The buckets are different heights but I try to even them up. They are six and a half weeks old. Here's a better shot of them from overhead. The color is adjusted for the HPS to show better.

Much better pic,
I see you have already gone to flower so the best I can suggest is when warmth comes to your area put the under performers outside. They will go thru a slight shock due to the light change. But should continue to flower. That way you will not have to sacrifice any:)

Fourth of July Crop
But "warmth" doesn't come for six more weeks. Memorial Day weekend is customary outdoor planting in this area. Even at that, it's dicey. So, at that time I'll decide whether to transplant outdoors or to finish the crop, if I don't have to move some of them out first. It's all good. It's not like I pay for seeds.
So, in six more weeks they will be one the downhill slope to harvest. I hope to get some new genetics (Blueberry) to try with my next grow, which will also include Foxy Seeds genetics.
Thanks again JG,

I added a couple of side lights (warm white CFLs, 42 watt and 26 watt). I'm also considering removing some fan leaves as prescribed by JG.
If I can't pull a leaf behind a branch to keep it from shading a branch tip then I'll cut it off. Any other details about this?

You must live way up there in the great white north. I'm down in the middle and it will be safe to plant outside, in about 2 weeks is the last frost record, So I will be going outside soon.
I bet you will figure something out like you always do. I go by the principal any buds big or small are better than no buds. Hell I can't even kill a small cloan, I'll figure out a way to get some buds out of her and maybe learn something new.

Fourth of July Crop
Sorry Shov did not see your last post.
Is there a way to tie them back or just cut the leaf blade/s that are blocking the light?
But to be honest I have no problem cutting my plants in fact I prun almost all the fan leaves around week 4 or when the buds start growing strong. I know this goes completely against anything you have done. But you have seen the results I get. This is only a sugestion and may be worth an experiment in your case since you have so many plants. :)
-
Fourth of July Crop
Do you mean four weeks from now when buds form? I think that might be a good measure. I'll trim some plants and leave others alone.
If you could link to a page with pictures of your grow with the fan leaves tarimmed it would be great. (with dialup I could spend all day looking)
Thanks

Shov,
Sorry I didn't clarify, yes it is at week 4 or 5 of flower when I prune.
I can't figure out or this damn thing and it won't let me post a link. So the best I can do is post a pic of my second grow at week 5 around 5 days after I pruned.

I did look back at JG's log, thanks.
No pics today. I did feed with BC Bloom nutes, Neptune Fish emulsion and B1 foliar spray. I double potted one plant, ala BOG.
Also, I thought I'd experiment with the two plants that were snapped off at the top. I took all the branches and twisted the tops of each so they flop down. I forget what they call that, but it's all in the name of keeping the grow lowered.
Only one of the dozen plants have not shown pistils yet. I love it! All Females!
Have a good weekend, Loggers! I'm headed out on my motorcycle to scout the county. ;)

It's getting crowded. I hung another two lamp 4' 3000K T8 and broadened the footprint a little bit. Folded some leaves back but otherwise I'm letting them flower vertically. Plants are looking fine and healthy.
The transpire four gallons of water every other day. Nutes with every other water. I'm out of the Technofloura Products so I'm back to the Neptune organic fish emulsion for now. And the Technoflouro B-1, which I used for foliary feeding. Today will be the last of that (foliar).

Here's the plant that I "nested" the pots ala BOG. Everything is looking fine. The other eleven plants look pretty much the same except for one stretchy plant, which looks real nice in it's own way.

I picked up some suppliments yesterday. Awesome Blossoms, which I won't need for a couple of weeks, and Cornucopia Plus Necessary Plant Energy TCA acids. It was suggested to use the TCA acids with every watering (and also I was told that it was very strong, so I will use 1/2 dose).
I used the tca this morning with fish emulsion and a drop of Superthrive.
So, the flowering feeding schedule will be every other day.
1) Plain water with tca.
2) molasses water with tca.
3) Neptune Fish emulsion (2-4-1), Awesome Blossoms (2-11-11), and tca.
The plants are really stretching nicely, letting light into the middle and lower areas.

The Bubblegum hybrids are from 18" to 28" tall and have a nice, airy structure with lots of bud sites. I removed a few more lower branches today when I fed them. Also, I had to lower the plants to gain headroom. They are all (12) very happy. Here's a couple of photos of a group of four as they are drying off after their "shower".

Yeah looking great shov, i'm jealous, I want a bigger garden like yours!
Have you used the top max before? I'm considering getting some.
-

Yes, I've used both the Top Max and Awesome Blossoms before. They seem to be good organic supplimental nutrients. I've grown without either also and it wasn't a lot different. I just want to give them all I can to finish with a fine smoke. :rastasmoke:
