2nd grow

2 weeks, woohoo, well i guess i still have about 10 more to go lol. OK here are some new pics of my LST'd plants, check em out lemme kno if i am doing anything wrong, or if it could be done better.

Also i added a top layer of hydroton over top of my soil, the chron shop guy was telling me this will help the soil to stay in better condition and not dry out as quickly b/c of no direct light hitting it. Also said it would promote roots to grow into the top couple inches of soil, that would normaly be dried out. I havent noticed any improvements as far a vigor goes, but i have noticed a strange smell coming from my cab, i think it is just the hydroton that got wet when i watered and now the light is baking the nutes off of the hydroton balls. It sure has a funk smell to it. We'll see how it goes

Heres the pics i dont have any descriptions of them cause i was high and forgot what plants the pics are of. Also I have spotted some male flowers on a couple plants. IS this normal after only 2 weeks veg??? And should i pull them out now??

They r currently OUT of the closet and under some CFL's in my room. Even if these are pre-flowers dont male pre-flowers usually mean a male plant. And also could this early show of sex be caused by a light leak?

the preflowers arent always male, so dont rip/kill/mutilate anything yet ;) in a couple of days (1-3) look at the 1st and 2nd node from the top and they should show if its balls or hairs

Whiskey, the tops of the two plants both have small honeycomb shaped structures of balls on the top. I didnt kno if preflowers ever apeared on the tops of plants, as i have only grown once. But why are they flowering when still in a 18/6, let alone only 2 1/2 weeks thru 18/6???

Also I am guessing that the small clusters of balls all over the plant, including the tops means males, correct?? Can they be removed from the cab now??

The LST is lookin really good, I checke don em today and they are starting to get some side shoots developing :thumbsup:. I'll probably leave the tops tied down for about another 3 or 4 days and then release the tops to resume growth. I will for sure be posting pics tomorow when the lights come on. :cool:

I know it doesnt have much to do with the grow, but here are soem pics of good time, pets, and other shit i felt like posting.

Pic 1- I found a loop hole on a sports betting website, were we literaly could not lose, me and my friends had over $10,000 in our account from the bowl games last college football season. Until the website took it all back because they said they messed up... YEA U COULD SAY THEY MESSED UP ALRIGHT LOL.

Zeb, dont worry about the plants the weasel only eats weasel food and sun chips, hes a strange animal. He doesnt really like people food, u can put him on the dinner table, I DONT, but i have befor and he will smel people food then just run away.

Also my lamp is like 12" above my plants, Y do u think it should be closer???

Sorry i don't know how much 12" is....in Europe we use the metric system....
You should use the hand test... put your hand under the lamp ,and the distance where it wont burn your hand ,(plus a few ( " ) ), the plants are safe...
The closer they are , the more light they get,the faster they will grow...

OK FYI when u see tihs again, " means inches while ' means feet

so 12" is = to 1' 60" would be 5' and so on and so forth.

Got it? ' = feet and " = inches.

I'm hoping that those side shoots start to blow up soon, i will for sure be updating when something cool happens.

you want a much easier way than that stupid paper towel method....just use rockwool cubes and then plub the cubes into soil...it makes it difficult to over or under water cause the cubes always provide a good amount of oxogen to you rootball....just a suggestion....its really cheap and makes things much easier....plus you dont have to handle the tiny little sprouted seeds.

I do have one suggestion. Do you have a fan on your sprouts? I put one on mine before they pop up so when they do pop up they start dancing in the wind imeadatly and stay very short and strong.

Jerry, they have had a oscilating fan on them since birth, runs 24/7 even when we are not looking. They are currently laying down and experiencing some LST, but Im still keeping it breezy in there :cool:, I figured the synth. wind is always good.

I was watchin Animal Planet the other day on TV and they had a dwarf mongoose, it was pretty cool. It was the size of my land weisel but was a mongoose. It was cuddling with the guy who had it too, so i guess he was a nice mongoose...

Now have seen
them, keep up the LST for another 2 weeks, they look great. eEach one of those shoots is going to become a main colla, more colla's more yeild, here it a pic of mine at week 4, there are 15 plants and the cannopy is 6" to 8" above the soil. I have not pulled the males yet due to I have not sexed yet but when I do that will give me 50%more room to flower in.

Posting pictures is a pain on this sight it keeps droping the attachments when ii close the window.

Jerry, another 2 weeks huh?? Do u think i should start easing up on the main stem top to let it strart growing up again, while still keeping the plant horizontal and continuing LST?

What I have found is after performing LST to the main kola, after a coulple of days it has started growing up to the light again and will pass the new axils. So I tied it down again and got 2 to 4 more new axils growing I kept doing this for I think 5 times maybe more. Plus when the new axils reached 4" I tied them down and more Axils came out of them, now for the last week I have just let them grow up vertically no more LST. One other thing I did was whenever a fan leaf formed over a kola or axil sprout and could not be moved out of the way, I pruned it. I did this alot to the leaves over the center and it paid off with little if any shock to the plant, after removing the leaf the sprout grew and within 24 hours filled the spot with 2 leaves.
Now I have 10 to 18 Kola's per plant growing at 8" to 12" high in a true SOG style they look like nice hedges in a bucket. I am going to induce Flowering today or tomarrow.
I did take a cutting from each plant to try and sex them but on day 6 no positive sign of either sex yet.

Now this is the way I am doing my grow and it seems to working quite well for me you may want to do this or experiment continue LST on half and let the others go and see which does better.

Did some more LST and twisty tying today. The side shoots are apearing pretty wuick now, so i twisty tied alof of the bottom fan leaves out of th way, since the plants is bent all over the place alot of fan leave were getting bunched up and not allowing light to any of the future bud branches.

Just veg. Yep, they're both by Advanced Nutrients. I think they would compliment the Fox Farms nicely; that's what I'm doing. :thumbsup:

Zeb, no preflowers yet that i have spoted, i am seeing the begining of alot of secondary growth whcih is kind of like a preflower psych outs :D. Another crazy thing happened also, on of the grow branches seems to have managed to top itself in a way. I never tied it down because it was so much smaller than the rest of the branches i wanted it to get extra light but it has misteriously split off into 2 different grow branches by itself.... no blade necessary.

Wow. That's weird. Things are looking good. When do you think you'll induce flowering? How are they now?

I was actually thinking of inducing flowering tonight, im not sure yet tho, i was kind of trying to wait for the prefloweres. But..... i think 4 out of the 6 plants have alternating branched which from what i kno means that the plant is mature enough to start flowering.

Ill try and get some pics up tonight of my plants seeing as how the last pics are about a week old now.

PS Norkali they look really good, i have have some of the lower fan leaves turning yellow andbrown and dying but im pretty sure that is because of a couple reasons. 1. The LST has laid some of the fan leaves down on the soil, so they may be burning from left over nutes that got on em, 2. They are not getting enough light since the plant is getting pretty bush now a days. Besides that i have noticed a very small bit of what looks like ozone damage, but im not sure. I think all is going pretty well tho.

Ok i saw a possible 2 plants w/ male preflowers, let me strss the word possible, not sure yet if they are male preflowers or just some wierd growth, pry male pre flowers tho. I also saw 2 plants w/ for sure female preflowers, that leaves 2 unknown still, and since one didnt come out of the dirt until a week after the rest i may have to wait on that one.

I am for sure turning the lights off in an hour and a half, which will be the first 12 hour day woohoo. Heres the pics tho everyone... enjoy ;)

Pic 3 - This is what has been happening to a few of the leaves toward the bottom of the plant, most are down so far they are on the soil, which is why i think nutes got splshed on em and cooked em in the light.

Nice! The lower leaves yellowing/dying off is no problem, they just don't get enough light to stay healthy and green. I've been pruning plenty of em' on my ladies.

Wait for those "male" growths.....just a little bit, they may decide to poke out some pistils. :jointsmile:

Cwesto, reading your problems post, I was expecting to see sick plants... THose are FAR from ill; they look EXCELLENT. The yellowng of an occasional lower leaf like the one shown is normal, especially if it is not getting a lot of light through a dense, healthy upper canopy.
But the fact that your runoff water was ass-nasty says you were ready for a preventative flush anyway. My grow-shop guy had me LICKING potting soil recently to check for metallic/salty taste... and sure enough, it was noticeable. Hahaha.
I hope you remembered the last step, which is to weakly feed immediately after the flush?

Ok, so i have been trying to sex my garden the last couple of day. 2 females have exposed their fufu's to me a couple of days ago, and i was hoping to see more exposed in recent days.... However Im about 85% that there will be no more fine young ladies,, in fact im pretty sure the other 4 plants in my garden are all horny young men looking to polinate my females :mad:

Like i sadi i am only about 85%, so it is not for sure yet. One of the apparent males has been taken out of the closet, the others, which i dont see any 100% male formation are still veg'ing, i pray to god one more of them decides to get some hairs. Oh well tho i took 3 clones from one of my ladies the other day and i think they are all doing fine :thumbsup::thumbsup: so hope fully i will have 2 fruitfull ladies, and then i think im going to bloom my clones probably as soon as they root, so harvest is pretty close in time.

This makes only 25% or my original garden female :wtf: I dont get it, i thought i was gonna get at least 50%.... i kno its not guarenteed but come on 25%?? 2 of the original 8 were taken out only after 2 weeks veg, b/c they were forming males flowers already??

Is there any reason anyone can think of for my garden producing such bad percentages?? or blooming those 2 so males so long before the rest??? could i have overstressed them into blooming male?? light eaks?? what can cause this situation i now find myself in??

I want to make sure that if i did something wrong it does not happen again:thumbsup:
