Have all your coffee pots made the roots look like that?
it looks from the pic that the plant had most of it's roots coming straight out the bottom...I'm not sure how they should grow but in my aero setup they definately make it out all sides of the net, maybe you could get smaller pellets? I used the hydroton but I'm not happy with balls laying on developing roots and forcing them to grow in narrow paths where they don't get much o2 cause the hydroton stays soaked...this might be more apparent in aero setups though as I have little xp with other hydros
I'm planning to use a fluffy medium that's clipped to the lid for the next grow and have the roots support themselves off the net I'm not sure if they have nets that are like grids which would allow the roots to wind down to the water and help em stand up how they want but this sounds much better to me for growth especially since you want them to avoid being squished together
I'm not sure on this but it would stand to reason that root growth relates quite closely in some ratio or another to leaf growth As I understand the more surface area each root has exposed the more effective it is at drawing solution this should keep root development lower promoting more veg
PS don't worry about no cola if the plant is healthy as long as shoots have unubstructed paths to the light they will bud just the same
