I've heard that the longer you take to dry the buds the better they taste and the smoother they are. You can quick dry them with very low heat in an oven. But generally people say to let them sit in a realtively low humidity environment, maybe in some paper bags since those absorb moisture, for a week or two. A lot of people hang the plants upside down for a few days first to make the drying process even slower.
There are lots of grow guides on the net... just google for them and read as much as you can about harvesting/drying in them.
