You all sound like Plato or Socrates
Haha, I was just trying to confuse you all.
But I did mean what I say, and I say what I mean. If I say what I don't mean, then people with think that I mean what I say that I don't mean. And in saying what I don't mean, it defeats the purpose of even saying what I mean in the first place, because then meaning what I say would become invalid.
And that would be just mean.

J/K GOOD ADVICE GK!
Not to copy Patrick Henry with the quotes thing, but this thread reminded me of one by Alan Watts:
"There was a young man who said 'though
It seems that I know that I know,
What I would like to see
Is the I that sees me
When I know that I know that I know.'"
Yeah, I remember that quote... I was channeling his thoughts on that post :)Quote:

You dont think that its fair to say that because humans have developed a language and used it for X amount of years, that it wouldn't produce a "norm" associated with certain phrases?Quote:

If someones says they dont like me, im not going to assume they love me... right?

Of course trying to make a certain phrase mean something 'for you' (whether or not the phrase is being used for what it was originally intended for in the english language) doesn't make sense. The concept goes both ways. When someone says, "I don't like you.", it is only a feeble glimpse into what they really think and feel, you can't be sure of the real reason for why they said it. Maybe they're just having a bad day, or maybe they're confused about their own emotions (who isn't at times?). In any case, do they really even know 'you' well enough to honestly say they don't like you? Does anyone? If not, why should you take what they say personally and let it offend you? If someone walks up to you and says, "I hate you, you piece of shit." and you assume that these words are true, and let them offend you, you're just letting that emotional poison seep right under your skin.Quote:
