Man, how high am I? I can't tell if this guy is kidding in an agro manner, or just remarkably, ironically ignorant...Quote:

Mr. Devious, thank you for summarizing what would be my argument... basically, a small amount of the same reasoning we use to tell the difference between apples and oranges is enough to find the problem with almost all prophecies (Bible included) made ever.

It bothers me, to the core, because we continuously keep humanity in a state of ignorance where true critical reasoning skills are never taught or understood by most. And because most people don't develope solid critical thinking skills, we continue to have massive injustice on this planet with things ranging from schoolyard bullying, to unjust wars, to a public that's easily manipulated by deceptive politicians who can twist their minds in the direction of their bullshit, to unjust policies like the war on drugs, to suppression of minority beliefs, to every subject that people have been bullshitted on and convinced to believe. Religion is one of the biggest and most influencial ways that we condition our minds to keep ourselves from utilizing our incredible intelligence. It turns open minds into narrow views, it keeps us from questioning everything, it keeps humanity from the ultimate goal of understanding our universe and existence to the fullest extent and solving our problems of our own accord and ingenuity. Religion has been a major hinderance to human progress throughout all history, even most theists would have to admit that.
If the voice of ignorance is the only one people hear, that's as far as most will think, which is why I debate on the small hope that somebody will read these arguments and have two sides to consider, and hopefully balance them with reason and intelligence.
same man took one look at it giggled and closed lolQuote:

When I saw this thread I was hoping for either a historical argument. Yes the bible is a historical document. The names and ancestries can be traced in history.
Or I was looking for a personal argument on how the bible changed someones life on a meaningful way.
I am not against Christians. In fact I think some of the ideas on morality can help and guide people. Most Christians I believe are good people.
What I do have a problem with is people who use fear and guilt to spread their propaganda.
For you Evangelistic Christians out there: No one will no the time. Remember "Thief in the night". It is in the bible look it up. I shouldn't have to tell you where to find it.
If the bible works for you in your life. More power to you.
I do hope that some of you research the history of how the bible was put together. You will learn there was a lot of political power games going on.
Things and documents were changed and entire books were not included. The people who wrote it had an agenda. They were looking out for their own power and control over the people.
If the bible makes an impact on you life...Cool! If it empowers you that is great.
But don't use interpretive prophecy to make your argument.
not saying that this means everything is true or that is it not but...
the tests used to gauge historical accuracy of the information that makes it to our text books, is the same used to check the historical accuracy of the books in the Bible... and the majority of the books in the Bible pass the tests with flying colors in comparrison to much of what is in our history books...
now i don't know if this is a plus for the Bible or a big negative for our records of history... whatever it is, there is some info...
Do you have any idea of how censored your history texts are…
I think you made a great comparison between text books and the bible.
Lots of censorship.
We really need to accept that no one can prove the bible is “true”
It is impossible. We can prove the accuracy of individual stories, or that some of the people in this text were “real”. But that doesn’t prove anything.
Everyone needs to see the gaping logical gap between finding out people mentioned in the book existed and concluding that there is a supernatural being.
For serious people
