How far should i keep my 1000w MH lights above my new clones?
.
Well, one thing I feel I can assure you, is that you should keep a low profile on them for the next week or so, 5 foot probably is a good recommendation at this point til they come out of shock anyway, giving you time to assess some more answers.
I think noone will disagree that they need soft light and a minimum of nutes until they perk up.
Doing the opposite will be like sending a survivor from a car crash down to the gym for a workout.

The reason I say 5 feet is because a 1000 watt HPS is far too much light for the little guys (girls hopefully) to handle. Clones need a soft light and by placing them at 5 feet it will insure their not getting too much light. I don't think the temperature is that much of a concern as long it is well in the limits of regular growth. I have noticed clones will root fine in 20 degree celcius temperatures or 28 degree's, but the later might be a little faster. Sorry for the Celcius, I don't understand Farenheight as well.
Also something that I have found that speeds up root development is to let the rockwool go through a slightly dry stage before watering again. Not dry, but fairly light and a hydro dome should be used so that the leaves can also soak up some water through humidity. I find this dry rockwool stage supplies more oxygen to stem and stimulates calis build up that is the first stages of root development.
Believe it or not I have found that a regular incandecent bulb will root clones just fine. Some people will disagree but I have done it numerous times and have had 100% success rates. I didn't think it would work too well either but I had no other light available the first time I did it so I thought I would try it out. Now that I know more I believe it is because of the high red light spectrum that is emmited from an incandescent.
If your clones are in a hydro dome you have to be careful not to pull the lid off quickly as a draft or a fast change in temperature will droop your clones almost right before your eyes. One thing I would like to know is, is your clone root a constant temp? Even an opening door can cause a slight breeze and that fast change can shock the plants. They usually come back two or three days later as long as the temp stays constant.
Well, enough blabbering. I hope some of this info can help. Good luck and let usa know how she goes.

Hey we started at the same time, when did you plant around 9/30?
First of all totally relax the plants are just fine :D
When you first transplant the plants will first of all be in shock, nothing to severe but secondly;
During the last week and next week your plants are going to be growing roots, and then some more roots :) As long as it is getting enough " food " from light it wont show off with big sturdy leaves and new growth. It will look wilted but yet strong, some slight curling I noticed.
The burn would probably be nutes I really doubt from the light, it could just be nothing. I would go really really slow on nutes add them from 20% strength on up to where you feel they are happy , all strain take different amounts of nutes just talk to your plants they willl tell you if happy.
While they are rooting you would want the light like 40 inches away, after they have rooted then you can put them as close as you can hold your hand for a minute without it feeling uncomfortable.
so even like 20 inches if good fans and air flow , just hold your hand there for 60 seconds and see if you would want that amount of heat for 18 hours.

yeah i started mine the same day! we should keep in touch through out our grows. I think i should hang them high for right now untill the plants show evidence of growing or reacting to the burns, the lights are about 5 feet above right now.

Hehe, now that´I'm doing my first clones, they're following the exact same pattern, and I made the same mistakes too.
I cannot stress enough how much weaker théy are than seedlings for the first week.
