just the fact that they confiscated the sheraton hotel sureveillence movies, kinda creeps me out, i really want to here the person speak who worked at the sheraton and saw the tapes. the airplane seems to have been small, or it was a sort of plane shaped missile. witch they do have i believe. i wouldlike to see the tapes.
Spent some rain soaked nights in the white mountains last week... ah well, it rains there more than there's sun...
Ah, rain. We're still in the throes of our terrible drought. We did have a rainy day a week or so ago, but they tell us we need 15 or so days of nonstop, drenching rain to get the lake that supplies this area with drinking water back up to a passable level. We drove out to look at the lake yesterday, and it truly looks like it's been drained. It's scary. A local oilman/billionaire named T. Boone Pickens has a plan to build a huge pipeline and pipe in water from a huge underground aquifer in the Texas panhandle and sell it like a commodity. Without that solution, by 2010 or so, the Dallas area will be largely waterless. Like I said, scary.
Whoa, if T. Boone is in it I'd have to move far away... that man is out to make air a commodity.
Yeah, T. Boone's a profiteer, alright. Actually, his plan is to sell it at reasonable prices equal to what we're paying now. He's richer than God already, and the altruists among us are hoping his motivation here is higher than profit. The realists among us are already all too familiar with how pure the motivations of Texas oil tycoons and companies are. We see that purity reflected in our U.S. energy policy every day.
I have no doubt that in the end, T. Boone will make out like Halliburton. That's my new favorite expression for anyone who's going to do well at anything.
Interesting, so is there a significant backlash of Enron, Haliburton your way? Would it make a difference in the coming election?
There's definitely some Enron backlash and plenty of distrust of the motives of big bidness after that debacle, but there are so many people employed in this area by Halliburton and/or KBR, I don't think most of them would ever think twice about still voting with the right.
I expect a number of Enron victims have changed their votes, but not enough to penetrate the deeply entrenched right. We're still the buckle of the Bible belt, and much of the political loyalty down here is about religion. As you know, Texas, even in its long history as a Democratic state, was always deeply conservative. Now it simply votes officially as what it always was, red. There's still tons of loyalty to our former governor and the former chairman of Halliburton here. And closer to home, in the upcoming gubernatorial and senatorial and gubernatorial races, the incumbent Republicans have huge leads. Truly, they're not even really campaigning except for some minor ads just to keep themselves from looking smug. We'll have four more years of Governor Rick Perry, the dumbest man who ever breathed the breath of life, and Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison, the dumbest woman. The Democrats will have to make headway in other places than the Lone Star State, I'm afraid.
