hansel was 100% correct.. there are 2 types of latin...Modern and Old.. The old lang is mortua .. ( dead ) as trhe modern one i dont know about.. But in highschool im taking latin.. intresting
Sure you do. You see, Latin never "died", that is, there was no time when all the Latin speakers started speaking foreigners' languages for some reason. Instead, the various Latin dialects went their own ways after the fall of the Roman Empire, and gradually over time they became so different that they could no longer understand each other. We know these modern dialects of Latin as Portuguese, Spanish, Catalan, French, Italian and Romanian.Quote:

I know it's heavy on the French, but does it also have any Arabic/ North African influence from the Moors?

Basque is a language in its own right, and it is the only European language that doesn't appear to be related to any other language we know of. It is probably the only surviving remnant of a language family that existed in Europe before the Celtic, Germanic and Roman peoples invaded.
