Thanks for putting things in perspective Smoky and Stinky. I'll post some updated pictures in a week or so.
No problem, I look forward to seeing the update.
WOW! I was away for a week and just got back today to notice some very interesting, hopefully not terminal characteristics.
As you can see in the pictures the Swiss Lady still has a lot of yellow leaves. Supposedly due to flowering...... Now as if yellow and green aren't enough, I now also have purple leaves! What gives? I looked around a little bit and supposedly it is also due to flowering as well as cold weather. I think the coldest it got the last couple of days was 12 degrees celcius.
Only good news, the flowers have really multiplied and gotten bigger.
What do you say, does my Lady look unhealthy or will she make it to harvest?
Cheers guys!
I've just looked at your pics. This plant will be ready (Indica) by last week of September. Its normal for fan leaves to yellow during flowering as the plant uses its nutrients. If the plant is in a pot then you are going to have to supply some nutrients to maximize bud production. As for height, your plant will stretch once flowering starts (as you said, mid-August in CH) but by now it will not stretch anymore as bud production commences.
You can tell when its ready when the trichomes become cloudy. Watch for this carefully towards end -Sept by monitoring the trichomes with a x30 hand-held microscope. If you don't know what I'm talking about, then just pull your plant when the pistils (white hairs) begin to turn brown/red.
Noticed that purple leaves also have yellow spots on them! Anyone??
alright seems like most plants will get this 'budding gitters' its not really a big deal for rookie growers,( no offence if you are or not), they'll start to act up a bit but don't worry about leaves now, your concern is about those buds! A few yellow leaves isn't anything to worry about could be that the plant is using up its stored Nitrogen, which is a good thing in mid to late flowering cycle. Or that it didn't have enough water to sustain all of its growth so it picked a few leaves it could get rid of, (you do know that plants use more water almost double in flowering). As for the purple is it below 60 F where this plant is? This will cause the purple condition your seeing, but it could also be caused by genetics or a nute defiency. She'll make it to harvest for sure. Just don't do anything to drastic and everything will be just fine. What week of budding are you on by the way. 4-5? And no I didn't see the yellow spots on purple leaves that you speak of.
Thanks for the reply smoky, the yellow spots just showed up today and they're quite small. I will take a picture in time.
I'm pretty sure the plant is getting enough water. I always check to see if the soil is still wet and it's been pretty rainy lately.
It was 14 degrees celcius this morning, which is around 57 degrees fahrenheit. Is that too cold? I was told that they can withstand almost to frost, which is 0 degrees celcius.
The plant showed sex around the 20th of July. So it's been flowering for 4-5 weeks. How ready do the buds look? I was gonna give it another 2-3 weeks until i see some orange or red on the pistils.
I've been getting a lot of rain. Is it really bad for the buds to get wet at this point in flowering?
Ha, I was correct about the flowering time, ;). No its not to cold, I've grown flowering plants successfully as cold as 32 F, but that much rain with cold will cause problems. ( mold, bud rot etc.) You will want to keep your buds as dry as possible. Whenever it rains, shake as much of the water of the buds as possible. Probably another 3-4 weeks, I would say closer to 4. So if its not lack of water thats causing the leaves to yellow and drop, its lack of Nitrogen, but its to late in the budding cycle to do anything about it now.
Here are some updated pics. The plant has turned even more purple, affecting lower leaves now as well. Please judge by the pictures and tell me what you think?
