my buddy was saying, on limos, i think the lowest it can go is like 10% unless it something like for the president, then it can go lower, but its different for cars... and then its even more differents for suvs... just look it up on google
i believe the primary reason is when the police walk up to your car, they see you. Its my understanding that a cop was shot and killed many years ago because he couldnt see in the car.
As a teen i used to get tickets up the ass for having dark tint. Tint shops will do whatever you ask them even put those ugly drips on your window (yes I had em)
I think every state is different. In florida i think the 2 front windows had to belighter then the rest and theres usually a small mark on your winshield where the front strip can come too.
Heres something I learned from all those tint tickets. A cop cannot give you a ticket unless he has a tint gun. it basically a 2 sided gun that shoots light through the window and measures how much comes through. Without that, tell him/her to fuck off. Tint is subjective to many variables. Take a tinted car and open a window during the day, open 2 windows. You will see a big difference through the non open windows. Its a combo effect.
And yes, dark tint at night is a PITA when trying to back up :)
yes it is different from state to state
and cops do need tint guns to right tickets
In canada (actually Ontario only) it is 35% in the drivers side and 5% in the others but the road side test is the real factor. I fthe officer sits in the car and you are on the other side of the street and can't tell how many fingers he's holding you are done.... This is an old school test that has been held up by case law thus far.
In Va you can only have 50% on your front side windows no tint on windsheild, and 35% for the rear windows, thats for a "car". For a suv or a panel van you can have 50% on your front windows, and any tint on the back windows. I have 30 percent tint all around my suv execpt for the windsheild. The 30% in the back, is over the factory tint so its pretty dark in the back. On all 4 cars I have had over the 5 years I have had at least 35% percent tint on my front 2 windows and have never had a problem with the strict Va police. But once you go down to 20% on your front windows police will hassle you.
