This is the best and most wonderful way! I tried the whole in the sink thing, but my pipe was so bad that I had to also do boiling water..I forgot what it had even looked like when I got it. Thank you so much.

Whix had the best advice! I tried the rubbing alcohol / salt / plastic bag method. wow, just do what whix said. put salt in pipe and in bag, then put pipe in bag and fill with just enough alcohol to submerge the pipe and shake that shit violently causing the alcohol to rush through all orifices of the pipe. After 5 mins the alcohol in the bag turned completely black so I emptied the bag and repeated the same procedure for 5 more mins and the pipe was perfectly clean and hittin like a champ! :rastasmoke: Now i only need to take one hit just like when I first bought the pipe and it gets me more toasted than toking on a resin'd up pipe all day.
they say the resin makes a natural filter but that idea sucks because everything doesn't make it into your lungs where it should be.
Sorry man, you gotta get a new username that does not reference other substances. Thanks.
i personally like acetone, aka nail polish remover, in many situations it is actually a better solvent than even 99% alcohol. And i still do the salt trick with it. and it worked really well on my bong, it cleaned it in seconds. i actually just tonight just picked up more to do my other pipes in, and acetone is actually used as a glass cleaner in high precision scenarios, so i feel that the glass gets cleaner as well, it also evaporates easily and doesnt let the salt get dissolved to easily.
try it, and compare it.
Alcohol and salt works best, IMHO, but the key that people don't say is to use Kosher Salt. It is much coarser, and pointy and jagged. Its purpose is to be an abrasive inside your pipe, so put the salt in, then fill it with alcohol. 91% or 99% (gotta ask a pharmacist for that usually). 70% really does not work. You can use drinking alcohol such as grain alcohol (95%) but that gets quite expensive fast. Shake vigorously.
Acetone I hear works well too, but I have no first hand knowledge with that. I've also used the hot/boiling water method, and comparatively, that just doesn't work.
Also, I don't know why you want to clean your piece after ever use or two. I'll agree, a clean piece is the best, but only a bong needs to be cleaned everyday. Pipes get full of resin and its a good thing. It makes the smoke a lot smoother, and helps out in times of shortage (although that is the nastiest thing you can do) and helps catch any ash that pulls through or anything. It doesn't trap THC out of the smoke, besides what would normally be condensed on the walls of the pipe anyway. But if you are smoking anything with water, thats gotta be cleaned everyday. Not just a water change either, but alcohol and shit. Keep is looking brand new, and it tastes awesome. Bong water is nasty. Also if it's as clean as brand new, you can use hot water, which is a treat. Give it a shot before you knock it. It isn't "less thick" or whatever you guys will say. Just try it.
Tl;dr: 91-99% isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol + kosher salt + enthusiastic shaking.
My friend told me just the other day that his favorite abrasive is Epsom salt! I thought that was interesting- it is cheap, and it is chunky like Kosher salt. He also says that is the abrasive in Formula420- not table salt. I have yet to try this, but after this coming weekend, I'm sure I will have at least ONE piece that needs a good cleaning! ;D
I've heard it works pretty well, because it is chunky like kosher salt. I believe kosher works better because it is slightly smaller (fit pipes better) yet still chunky, and more jagged and pointy. Epsom is more like a cube (it's salt) but will still work far better than table (fine) salt. And the worst would be pickling salt (extremely fine).Quote:

Oh man this is funny- I have to share it. So I have this girlfriend, who is awesome. And she has this bong, which is beautiful, and hits like a dream. However, it's not the cleanest pound of glass on the planet, and the ID of the slider had shrunk to a paper clip width due to resin buildup... and the bong is opaque, so we could only judge its contents by odor... which, needless to say, had been questionable for some time! Well, her husband is so attached to the thing that he didn't even want to give it up for one evening to be cleaned, so last week she left a couple joints on the coffee table and snuck out with the bong all bubble wrapped in a box. haha.
It took a full bottle of alcohol, lots of Kosher salt, some soaking, careful heating of the slider under hot tap water, and a LOT of encouragement from various pointy objects to get the gunk out of the slider even enough to stick a q-tip dipped in salt up there, and the bong itself- oh MAN I don't even want to know. I dumped a lot of bong residue down the drain, but did end up saving the alcohol in a glass jar.
The other morning as I was cleaning the kitchen I noticed that all the liquid in the jar had evaporated, leaving behind a thick black jelly. Mmm tar jelly for breakfast? There was EASILY about 1/4 CUP of pure, nasty, gloppy bong goop in there. And that bong is only about a pint total internal volume! Haha.
I totally saved it to show her husband why the ladies had been conspiring against him! :D
^that is disgusting. Im glad my pieces never get that bad.
though i also dont wash my bong out everday either, usually once a week or so i will rinse it out with acetone, which quite litterally melts the residues, i didnt even use salt when i cleaned my slider out and it is perfectly clean, except one black ring, where it would be useful to get something inside the ring of glass and scrape, then wash that out. I also only change the water every other day or so, and it is very obvious when i do cause it is stinky in the bathroom until i can rinse the sink out really good for a few minutes.
ive never seen the 99% alcohol in action, but ive never seen resin just run out of a bowl like it did when i was cleaning mine out.
Alternate stealth method for the above posted:
1. Boil water in kettle
2. Get a mason canning jar
3. Place towel, spread out, on floor.
4. Place mason jar on center of towel, place your pipe inside the mason jar, and leave the lid off, but right next to it.
5. Pour boiling water in mason jar. Cover with lid, but do not grip the jar with your hands to tighten, instead grip it with the towel.
6. Wrap jar in towel, and proceed to shake it, baby.
Then you just do the salt/isopropyl in the jar as well. Saves you the smell.
