The biggest problem is the hypocrisy of the US goverment and it's refusal to accept that forcing another nation to surrender to it's demands whilst they themselves do not adhere to the same rules of majority rule is wrong.
The idea that the US is somehow exempt from the rules everyone else wants implementing (Kyoto) just shows a lack of diplomacy and an arrogance born of ignorance. The largest stockpile of weapons is in the USA yet they try to dictate to others what weapons they may have (under who's authority, I don't ever remember anyone nominating the US as the police force of the world).

very well put. I dont dislike america as a whole, but i think more americans need to see that alot of the international confilcts are a result of american foreign policy. also, not all americans are fat and not all muslims are terrorists.

Hehe. I hate that this thread keeps getting bumped but I created it so I guess I'm to blame. Some good things have been said here though. It'd just be nice if some of our international friends didn't immediately point fingers. Some of us, the ones that are educated about the outside world, are not the ones that need preaching to. We already go out of our way to learn about your histories, cultures, and read your newspapers. Pot smokers are a pretty liberal group to begin with so if you're really interested in a debate, try the politics or other forums where it is appropriate.
Lashing out at certain nationalities and religions randomly or creating a thread only to lash out at them is simply wrong. Be you American, Turkish, Russian, Slovenian, etc...

Those who choose to bad mouth all Americans because of what their leaders do is nothing more than a show of ignorance. Simple as that! The last time that I checked 48.5% of us voted AGAINST the powers in office, but we still get blamed by the ignorant people such as some of those whom have wasted their time trying to make an intelligent post in this thread. Where in all of these threads do you ever see Americans members making such ignorant blanket statements? Please show me! That is all that I am asking! The way the US goverment got into power was dubious to say the least, yet not enough of a racket was raised to impeach Bush,, the people who say nothing are as guilty as those who actively support the man.
Thats why some believe the Americans are fools not only for allowing him to get into power in the first place, but even bigger ones for not ousting him from his position of power.

patriot act classifies those who voice dissent as terrorists, that means they can take you into custody move your ass out of country and hold you without trial for as long as they want, don't pay attention to your rights and they will dissappear, if you're not pissed off you are not paying attention.

as one who participated in more than a few protest, peace marches and anti-war rallys is the 60s and 70s. i agree that there is no outrage visible from any group in America today and it makes me sad. of course things are alot more controlled now than it was, but is'nt everyone sick of this? what good is it just letting the corporations run our lives, our politics, our environment, our FUTURE? we really need to speak out and not lay down for this. however, since most Americans are now uninformed, opinionated, arrogant, complacent, nationalistic and close-minded i doubt this will happen. actually that last sentence explains why we got bush-boy in the 1st place.

Simpsons 'trump' First Amendment

Americans know more about The Simpsons TV show than the US Constitution's First Amendment, an opinion poll says.
Only one in four could name more than one of the five freedoms it upholds but more than half could name at least two members of the cartoon family.
About one in five thought the right to own a pet was one of the freedoms.
A new museum dedicated to the First Amendment said the findings showed there was a pressing need to explain one of America's basic laws better.
"We have our job cut out for us," said Joe Madeira, director of exhibitions at the McCormick Tribune Freedom Museum.
Another finding from the poll, a telephone survey of 1,000 random adults with an error margin of 3%, was that 22% of Americans could name all five Simpson characters.
By comparison, just one in 1,000 people could name all five First Amendment freedoms.
The names of American Idol TV show judges and popular advertising slogans also proved more memorable than the five freedoms - speech, religion, press, assembly and petition for redress of grievances.
