Are you studying it, or are you just doing it off your own back?

Its only been around for the past 100 years.....or the study of it has. (created by a man called Wilhelm Wundt, who is claimed to have set up the first psychology lab in 1875.)

But yea i agree with what you said....it is pretty much the chance to understand how and why the mind and people work.

It's by far the best subject I have studied....by FAR!

I'm learning as much as I can while I'm not in school. This summer looks promising. I have the skills, the interest, but no motivation. Then again I just sit at home all day, and whose motivated in their own house? When I attend college I expect a complete turnaround. Give me some work and I'll do it, know what I'm saying?

Yeah, maybe the lab has only been around for a hundred years or so, but psychology could date as far back as Socrates, I'm sure it's further, but I can't recall the dates too well at the moment. Although they may have been consider philosophers--their philosophies were based around man and the mind, sense and perception, all kinds of great stuff! I picked up a book recently, appropriately titled, The History of Psychology by William S. Sahakian. I'm sure you'll dig it.

I know exactly what you mean dude, I am and did exactly the same.
I expected a complete turnaround when i started college...and I had one for a bit....probly about 6 months......then i got slack again and still am. Not in psychology i still really enjoy that, but in my other course im really quite slack.

I started reading some psychology books before I started college and instantly loved them, i just find it really interesting.

Yeah thats a good point about Socrates....although Psychology and Pshilosophy are very different subjects. Philosophy generally concerns itself with what are sometimes called 'the big questions'. For example: "What is the meaning of life? How did the world begin? Do I have a soul? Will my soul survive my death? What really exists? Could nothing have ever existed?" etc etc (wikipedia.com)
but yeah i guess that is where the roots of psychology came from.
I guess it kinda split up from Philosophy, Physics and Biology....
That book sounds pretty interesting....i might have to look into getting it :)

The school counseling is most intriguing to me. For a couple of reasons:

1. I want to help troubled children
2. It doesn't require a doctorate's degree (which I will aspire to when I get enough money for the extra time in school)

The veteran affairs will only pay for 45 months of schooling for me, which isn't long enough to get a doctorates. I want to get my masters and work for a few years and go back. Ultimately, I want to lease my own building out and open my own practice.

You're to young, probably far to baised to hold a degree in psychology.
Shame really... that you have to not just blow your own horn.. but throw a parade for yourself by making a board...

I'll get my therapy elsewhere.. and with advice like that.. I'd advise others to do the same
