hehehe....
yep.
we are ALL stoned, arent we? :D
mount an extraction fan above your light, in the top directly behind light. turn your light on hold your hand under it. the distance it stops burning is the distance to keep it off the plants. get a big fucking fan it cant hurt. watch for noise if it has to be stealthy.
as far as exact temp. of the light take its temp. many of the sites you get if you google extraction fans will give you a formula or calculator to figure out the size of the fan you need for your size of room.
Actually the plasma arc inside the HPS can burn as hot as 2000 degrees F, the vessel the arc is in is made of polycrystalline alumina, or single crystal alumina aka sapphire, the arc tube is essentially buffered by the vacuum and bulb, keeping it from melting(made from vitreous glass in most cases) thats why they are so damned expensive.
As far as your space goes, get a bathroom exhaust fan ($20-30 bones); that will be enough, just make sure you have a way for air to get in too.
And yes I too am :stoned:
Hey, I have a bigger op than that now. I used a 300 cfm inline fan on my air cooled hood. This vents my room and also cools my bulb so I can get it as close as I can. You should always have a regular fan blowing right underneath the glass of your reflector. BTW, i grew my avatar (the pic beside my name) in this setup. I kept my bulb about 6 inches from the top of the canopy (eight with my 600w). As long as u can manage the temps get the light close! BTW, i got a really good deal on my inline fan at hvacquick.com. I did have to attach the power cord, but that's only 3 wires. Fantech FG-6 (unpainted) was 150 after shipping costs.
