So are the white hairs (for females-pistils) or (for males-stamens) develope from or near/on those green things I am talking about? which means I am going to have to wait a while more...

Unless you have a perfectly controlled growroom and the experience to provide perfectly for you plants...chronological age should be more of a baseline figure, not as a hard-n-fast rule. If your plant isn't ready to have clones taken at 4 weeks, it isn't ready. Pushing it could ruin the mother plant AND the immature branches you're trying to clone. (have some patience) You can keep a plant in the growth phase for years, with proper handling.
A male plant can only offer you pollen. No buds, no seeds. Check the male leaves for trichomes. If there are any, dry some leaves and smoke it, then tell us if it was worth it. In desperate times I've smoked the male, but it's not at all like smoking the females. I really wouldn't bother making butter with males though. IMHO, not worth wasting the other ingredients.
The calyx's on a female will eventually push-out a couple of hairs from the pointy end. These pistils are tubes designed to catch and transport the pollen to the heart of the calyx. (to the embryo) One calyx plus one grain of pollen makes one seed.
Male pollen sacks and female calyx's can look alike, and sometimes the pistils take their time popping-out. Be damned sure you aren't killing a slow-developing female.
This should help you to understand what you're looking at.
Thanks for the pic Tiki....I think what I am looking at are either stipules or calyx coming off mostly my main stem ... although right now they look way to small to be stipules.

Just really quickly - will the pistils come out (female-preflower) in veg stage? Is it something that may take months of veg to show? Or only show in flower?
And don't get me wrong here... I don't mind waiting. I actually LOVE watching "her?:D" grow day by day and seeing what looks different. This is the first canna-plant ;) I have ever seen in real life :jointsmile:
I will take some pics and post them here... maybe someone can give me some more insight. Although, I am not expecting a perfect answer because I also believe it is pretty early to know. (Just so you guys know what I am talking about:))
Weather or not the plant will start to actually "Show" (Sprout pistils) preflowers seems to be a mystery concoction of environment, age, strain, and eye of newt.
the more reading I do the more I read threads where the grower wasn't able to sex until week 2 of flowering :wtf: where in my room there's no doubt about sex by about 6" tall. I quite literally have pistils over 1/4" on most all of my strains under 18/6 lighting.
Well, let me correct something before I get called-out on it. The stigma's are the actual tubes, (white hairs) the pistil is the reproductive package that delivers the pollen to the ovaries. When they appear is usually different for each strain. Usually within the first 5-6 weeks of growth phase.
But just because they appear in the growth phase, does not mean you HAVE to flower her soon. It means she's ready to flower when you are.
For pictures...turn off the fans, raise the lights a bit, and steady the camera on books or boxes or something to keep the camera steady. Adjust the white balance if you know how.
Thanks for confirming your info. As for the camera i tryed taking pics but with the flash off on the camera nothing really shows and with it on it's so bright you just see mostly a white sceen. When I can get an okay pic it's blurry or is good but does not show what I need you guys to see.. the preflower part... just shows the fan leaves...Quote:

I have the plant and it's in week 5 of veg. AT week 6 should I change the lights from (18/6 - on/off) to (12/12 - on/off). So basically put it in flower because I am not planning on keeping it for cutting(mother plant) and if it is a male I will scrap it anyways. If it's female I'll keep. So then it's not really necessary to keep in it veg anymore right?
