No the Dog should not be put down. If you love your dog you should not do that. Would you put your grandma down? If so call jack Kovorkian... Oh shit that pycho's in jail where he needs to be.
What I hate are these people that say they love their Dog or pet and have them tied to a tree in the back yard. Or the people who neuter their pet. I HATE THOSE PEOPLE !! I think someone should tie them to a tree their whole life and let them off only when that person feels like using them for their enjoyment, or Fixing them ,because people like that need to be fixed. So yeah if you want to put animals to sleep, you should be put asleep. I feel as though people that put animals to sleep also would put people to sleep so lets start with them first. Same as the people who think the earth is over populated and think it needs to be depopulated. Then lets start with the people that feel that way.
Thanks for listening.
Well, what exactly is YOUR solution to the overpopulation problem then? "Ah let's just not worry about it and keep poppin' out tons of babies." We really do need to reduce our numbers, and we should start with the people who want to die because it seems kind of dumb to me to force them all to keep living and suffering. Same for animals...our society has too many (hence the need for animal shelters), and if we just let them run free and fuck all they want our cities would be crawling with homeless dogs and cats.

Then, if it's something serious which is causing him a lot of pain it would be best to put him to sleep so nothing can hurt him any more. I know it will be very hard to let him go but it will be for the best, you wouldn't want him to feel pain would you?
Penguin, as most of the people here have said, it is totally up to you and your family. In my opinion, I would put the animal down if it was in a great deal of pain, and basically cannot function. I know it will be a sad, sad day when it happens, but you have to look out for the best interests of the dog. 12 years old for a dog is 84 years old, and that is usually the time when humans meet their maker. If you think it is the best for the dog, then go through with it. If you think that he/she can be happy for a few more months/years, then I am all for it. I am sorry to hear about your situation, and I know you and your family will make the right choice.
Thank you for all the advice and everything guys, but i see there is a misconcepation...Ok well really this post was because i thought he should be put down but my grandma didnt think so yet.Well he hasnt gotten any better. Now he completely cannot stand, he wont eat(even steak),hes toe was bleeding from trying to stand and his nail digging into his foot,he drank some water and threw it up. He has been laying in the same place since yesterday and hasnt moved, he breathes really hard. Yeah i honestly want him to be put down. The part that kinda made me angry and my grandmas ignorance was the fact last night she was trying to get him to stand up and go pee well i sat and watched, He didnt go and wouldnt get up so shes just like lassie, lassie, lassie, why didnt you tell me you were ready to die a few days ago? And im like he tried hasnt it been obvious? So i told her she was just in a stage of denial which is the truth.
See the thing is tho i dont love the dog, i did love the dog when i was littlier but over the time when i was seperated and didnt see my grandma that much, i also didnt see the dog either, so my grandma grew an amazing bond with(my dog)lassie, well i never really got this bond, she expects me just to completely love the dog, cry over him. Im sorry but i cant do that, i mean yeah i care about him and everything, but ive seen the suffering he's been going through and its only getting worse.
Hopefully for his sake in the next few days he will be put down.
I had a dog called buster he died when i was 12 and wehad him 3 yrs before i was born.He got so old sounds like your dog.We were about to get him put down and he died that night he was in pain i cried for weeke when he died he was my best mate and protector
poor dog,,, i think its time
R.I.P.
I voted yes too, because I have 2 cats and as much as I love them, I could never let them live in pain.
Look at this way: contrary to what many people say, it's not inhumane in the least. Say your dog was in the wild, it would die anyway since it wouldn't be able to eat anymore. In any case, it's a common thing for animals, as well as humans, to let themselves die by not eating when they feel they are too week to live on. Of course a pet like a dog wouldn't starve since you feed it everyday, but in the wild it wouldn't even hunt anymore.
Remember the good times, take lots of pictures, give him a big hug, and let him go... :(
Ok, let me just start by saying, you are wrong.Quote:

The Earth does need depopulating, there are far too many humans in the world, they are destroying the Earth and it is not ours to destroy. I'm not saying we should kill people, just find some way of restricting breeding.
As for neutering pets... what's your problem with it? You should ALWAYS neuter cats and dogs unless you intend to use them for breeding. They don't care if they neutered. It makes most animals less agressive and temperamental, allowing you to have a better relationship with them. It also means that they wont accidentally get another animal pregnant/get pregnant and leave either you or someone else with a load of babies, which they probably wont be able to deal with. Either that or they will get a stray pregnant, which means more stray animals.
You sound like the kind of person that needs to wake up to reality and realise that in the real world things aren't black and white, and sometimes you have to choose the lesser of two evils, not just ignore the problem.
