Should the person who breaks a waterpipe be required to pay?
How about this situation?
I bought a waterpipe on 4/20/08. It cost 250 dollars alone, and had a red lower bubble and neck (favorite color is red btw), two percolators (is that what they are?), a matching bubbler bowl (purchased seperately, $50), and a red diffusing downstem (also separate, custom, $30).
It was at my homies apt because i was pretty much living there and wanted to use it. The term ended and we were both moving back over the summer. I moved out in april 09 and he was holding on to it because i didnt want to cart it around with my dad in the car, and he said it was cool, he would take it when he moved out a month later.
He moves out and a couple days later i go over and tell him to bust it out so i could pack it. He says "Dude i thought you took it."
He left it in the FUCKING apartment. Along with my blacklights and strobes but those i dont care too much about.
What is reasonable payment for that?

Why shouldn't it be a mutually shared loss? Why should it be "hey you owe me."
point is, you'll never know. this time it's your fault. pay him back and next time, save up your own money so when you break it you can be mad at yourself.

IMO, No, not required. I never get mad at people who break my pipes or w/e. If it is a real friend they would just buy another one anyways, b/c that what i would do if i broke a friends pipe, But that;s just me. If the person was a dick about it, i probably would'nt. It would honestly depend on how the person reacts. If they didnt sweat it and were cool, then ill come thru with a piece that was probably badder than before.

It's different but not required to pay IMHO.
I am not saying I would not feel bad, in the first senario I would make it up to my friend. In this 2nd senerio you just fucked up and did not keep a handle on your stuff, we all did that at one time or another and it is a life lesson IMO.

Yes, if you break someone's stuff you should pay for it. Unless the guy is very rich and he may not want you too, but you should still offer. If i broke your bong and i was like nah i'm not gonna pay for it why should i? You'd be pissed.

Personally I think dude should fuck off because this was never in any written form and was only a verbal agreement. What do you guys think? I'm poor as anything also lol
You should give him the money cause your as you say DumbAss broke it. What a fucktard to think he should just be out of his half which cost 150. We aren't talking a few here it's 150. Your only as good as your word and from the way you sound I would not blame him if he beat some satisfaction out of your ASS.

i fell over and knocked my mates tv on the floor when i was pissed, at the time he had no job no money,he called me a cunt and laughed about it even though he was pissed off with me, he didn't mention anything about replaceing it but i done what all mates do and replaced it next day even though i couldn't really afford it. imo he shouldn't have asked you to pay for it, but you should replace it, even if it's with a cheep one for now if you have little money.

i had a former buddy of mine break one of my bubblers, and laugh about it. i told him he was to replace it or ill beat the shit out of him and take the money out of his wallet, his choice. he laughed again, in my face. so i beat the shit out of him and took twice as much as the bubbler cost, i like to call it a tax for being a btch.
you break it, you buy it. end of discussion. step up and be a man.

Hello, as most people have already said, I recommend you buy a new water pipe, but don't spend $300 on it. I suggest buying something online. Try chunkyglasspipes..... they have many nice pieces for low prices.
Also I bought a water pipe from etsy.com...it is an artist's website kinda like ebay. If you search for "bubbler" you will come up with a lot of hits for relatively cheap.
Also, I broke one of my pipes today, so I feel your pain :|
