how ofen do i use mollass?
One of the effects that is often overlooked when using molasses is the soil drying cycle. Molasses is syrupy sugar and when it dries in the soil it crystalizes like sugar does. The crystalization creates an effect called chelating, which breaks the ionic bonds of other elements present in the soil, making it available for uptake by the roots. Basically, the sugar comes out of solution with water by dessication (drying), at the same time its drying into an organized crystal form that grows and as it grows it jams the ionic bonds of locked up elements apart, making the elements flake up and become available. The same microscopically sharp crystals puncture and poke the roots and hairs which stimulates some root processes, and of course microbes can use some of the molasses too. Remember that science experiment with the celery stalk and the dyed water? Better yet, the white carnation placed in blue dyed water....the plant will suck molasses up the same way making the juice in the plant stickier. That sugar content will translate into more resin production, and make the plant taste sweeter overall. Because of the chelating effects, using molasses combined with proper ph and other factors guarantees the soil will not lock up nutrients, and make flushing at harvest easier and faster. I would recommend 1-2 tbsp per every 5 gal of soil and the same for every 5 gal of hydro reservoir, every watering during flower, til harvest.

Mahalo, Black dragon.
Sounds logical.;):)
(Lotsa things sound logical)
I had not heard the crystallization explaination before.
Any chemists here that will back that up?
Or, can ya cite some references?
Fun theory but...
Bottom line with me is testable, reproduceable, results.
So, I'm still looking for a "lab partner" to run a sideby side test.
Many of our "old growers tales" have basis in fact.
Many do not!
I like to sort them out.
Many of these "tales" require you to "believe in them".
Plants are not as easily fooled as new growers.
And I grow some very sceptical ladies.:D
So I test.:)
It's a hassle, but it saves time, money, and effort in the long run.
Fer instance, I no longer waste $$ on Superthrive or Magical rooting compounds thanks to side by side testing.
Startin' to look like I'm da only guy here that uses a scientific method on "common knowledge", hand-me-down, information.:(
Aloha,
Weezard
PS. I've been typing "double-blind", where I should say side-by-side. My bad.:o

Well Weez i have 2 plants iv just put in 12/12 so il give one the molasses and one not. They are different strains, but we are looking for growth enhancement so this should work.
Only issue is iv been growing them outside and just did the big flip. I brought them in 29th at 7 pm, but then flipped the lights at 7 pm today the 30th as i want to burn the lights at night. So if i get past this il give it a try. But am i over looking strain difference and do you think my plant will make it through the hermy possibility. I thought more dark would be better then more light, but this is based on a hunch:wtf:
Oh and BTW i was telling you about the steel wool, because i know the rats there like the seeded plants, so if ya wanna seed a crop, they will not touch the steel wool.
If ya think im good il start soon:rasta:

More dan one variable?
It's not scienterrific, but it is better dan nuttin.

Good hunch!
IMO, bes' way.

Yer prolly right 'bout dese local rodents.
4, and 2 legged ratz, will take the easy path.
Run into steel wool? Go eat a mango instead.:)
(After I mounted the cameras on my green-cage, da local rustlers raided my less protected neighbor instead.:(
Rat bastids!)

From what I've read of your posts, yep, I think you're good.;):D
Mahalo fo' volunteer.
I'm hoping Molasses does good things fo' Cannabis, 'cause it's simple and inexpensive.
Jus' my kine sing!:rastasmoke::hippy::thumbsup:
Mahalo brah!
Might be a week or so until I have 4 decent cuttings for my test.
Been having major problems with some new coco.
Always sumpin, yah?

Always something for sure, my timer isn't wanting to work now. Could be the helper, but never had a issue before. So the cam ya got, im thinking with what i have out there with people giving me a guesstimate of a lb each id like to look into one of these cams. I believe it should just hook up to my laptop. Its just all the eggs thing. But pretty discrete, but got thieves in the area that go hunting it. Lazy bastards:wtf: And my buddy near me is known for growin the good shit, but better this year cuz he's got my genes.
20 year grower and cant talk him outta pulling his leaves off his buds 2 weeks before harvest? Told em they were giving to the bud, but he see's it the other way:wtf:. He flipped when he saw my re vegged plants iv put out. He even thinks thay will hit 10', hell iv never seen a 10'ter:thumbsup:

Heya Weez! I've just taken six clones from a lovely new mum, and so far, they're doing all right. I've put four of 'em in a homebrew bubble cloner (two in rockwool, two in rapid rooters), and two of 'em in dixie cups with soil.
Assuming all of 'em take root, I will be putting 'em in the main garden and trying the ST/Molasses thing in hydro on the four, and in the two remaining in soil. Have to get my existing crop out first, and that is proving difficult, as I think I heat-stressed 'em pretty bad for a couple of weeks. Toronto heat waves are a bitch for those of us without air conditioning.
I want to see if there is a difference in using ST/Molasses, as well as the difference in speed and/or quality of growth with hydro (DWC) versus soil. Since all girls are from the same healthy mum (which is WW, if my deductions are correct...), it should be a reasonable experiment. Am planning on doing one plant with ST & Mo enhancement, one with just ST, one with just Mo, and one as the control with just basic nutes. For the two in soil, I'm planning on doing one with everything 'bonus-y' I can throw at it, and one with just my two-part DNF nutes.
A better way to do it would be to take a larger garden, with a few hundred plants, and do a proper double-blind test, but that will have to wait until I'm r!ch (and living in HamsterDamn) ;)

Quite right Holmes!
I'm theorizing that it won't he'p, but hopin' dat perhaps it does.

Did dat dwc v. dirt t'ing.:)
Prepare to be happily amazed.
What I found, was coco trumped soils
hands down.
DWC has the edge on coco but, with skill, a coco grow can match DWC in size and ease.
That's kind-of a stretch fo' me though.
I am not a skilled grower.:(
(Inky thumb and ADHD.)
My minor victories are all hard-won.
The results of good advice, perseverance, and mostly, luck.
I seldom publish my screw-ups.:)

Mahalo nui loa!
On tenterhooks with breath abated.
Impatiently I have awaited.
A friend who is well educated.
To he'p wit' all t'ings science related.
In odder words,
I very much appreciate your willingness to share.

"I predict, that in just a few years, we will have grow licenses that permit the cultivation of very large quantities of MMJ, as the US attempts to monopolize and capitalize that which it can not prohibit." -Weezard
So, you no gotta move, and growers with skills will be in high demand. (pun intended)
Stay inna states, do what ya love, an' get rich doin' it, is what I would advise.
Now is the time to hone one's skills, yah?
Aloha Y'all.

Have you asked him to leave just one plant "un-plucked with" just to humor you?
Back that up, with the Mark Twain quote in my signature.
Den mention that it's not about bein' wrong/right.
It is about first-hand knowledge and mo' betta bud.
He might just know sumpin we don't, brah.
An' dat's a dandy way to find out, yah?
Science!
Um, yeah, with some hard disk room and decent DVR software, a webcam or two should do.
I use a dedicated 750gb. dvr and 4 color/IR cameras.
The whole schmeer was under $400 on ebay.
A little more than the cost of one z. onna street.
Bottom line, with present street prices for meds, I'm too broke not to have security.
Aloha,

Wussup Weezard. I think I remember seeing the crystalization effects in an article by the "Three Little Birds" on Molasses. I'll check and get back.
