Gee...sounds like you could use some fiber...
You failed to mention it (corn flakes) was developed and first offered to folks vontarily trying to lose weight, on a fat farm. Every fat farm had the latest fad in diet and exercize. They (the visitors) liked the cereal enough to drive Kellog (I forget which brother) to market it. Back then, the science wasn't nearly as advanced as today, and regardless...they believed what they came up with would help folks lose weight, not sustain nutrition.
I love the cereals, and eat them daily.
Well done, Michael.

8 arrested in Michael Phelps case
Tuesday, February 10, 2009
Holy crap. Sheriff Lott is certifiable.
Lott says the picture indicated a law was being broken in his jurisdiction. He said he couldn't ignore the violation just because Phelps is rich and famous.
We've now learned that since investigators began trying to build a case, they've made eight arrests: seven for drug possession and one for distribution. These are arrests that resulted as the sheriff's department served search warrants.
We've also learned that the department has located and confiscated that bong.

Phelps Swimming Suspension
Michael Phelps has been suspended by USA Swimming for three months over that picture of him smoking pot from a bong.
??This is not a situation where any anti-doping rule was violated, but we decided to send a strong message to Michael because he disappointed so may people, particularly the hundreds of thousands of USA Swimming member kids who look up to him as a role model and a hero,? USA Swimming said in a statement Thursday.
The organization has also cut off financial support to 23-year-old for the duration of his suspension.
Word is Phelps will not fight the suspension, which he says is ??Fair.??

Michael Phelps Talks Possible Early Retirement In Wake Of The Marijuana Photos
In his first interview since a photo surfaced showing him smoking marijuana from a pipe at a college party last November, 14-time Olympic medal-winning swimmer Michael Phelps says he is contemplating whether or not he will compete in the 2012 Games due to his shame over the public scandal.
Here is some of Phelps Interview with the Baltimore Sun:
??This is a decision of mine that I??m not going to make today and I??m not going to make tomorrow,? Phelps said. ??It??s going to require a lot of time and energy and a lot of thinking for myself - but also talking to Bob and talking to my family and just deciding what I want to do.
??Yeah, there are still goals that I have in the pool, 100 percent. But I??m not going to let anything stand in my way. If I decide to walk away, I??ll decide to walk away on my own terms. If it??s now, if it??s four years, who knows. But it is something I need to think about and decide what I want to do.?

Braithwaite explains that the desire to avoid shame aids in the development of conscience and social bonds. He distinguishes between two types of shame: stigmatizing shame which rejects and permanently labels offenders and reintegrative shame which only rejects the offender's deed but not the offender himself.
Conferences encourage positive personal change in offenders because unlike courts, conferences allow offenders to shed their offender label and be reintegrated into the community.

"Arbitrary and capricious" is legal language that was used by DEA Administrative Law Judge Francis Young in 1988 to conclude that DEA was obligated under the Controlled Substances Act to reschedule marijuana as a prescription medicine. DEA Chief Administrator Robert Bonner proceeded to arbitrarily and capriciously disregard Judge Young's well researched and reasoned decision, which the Act allowed him to do.

You have no doubt seen by now - several hundred times - the photo of gold medalist swimmer Michael Phelps sucking on a bong.
As might be expected in our age of manufactured sanctimony, the pundits have gone into overdrive on the Olympic icon. "This is a sad day for Phelps," Christine Brennan moaned, in that vaunted organ of conventional wisdom, USA Today, "and a sadder day for the millions of parents and young athletes who planned their lives around his races last August. How disappointed must they be that a glorious hero, a person in whom they placed their trust, has done something illegal for which he must apologize?"

A Grass-Roots Situation
Shadowed in cycles through recent decades while other legal or illegal or performance-enhancing stimulants took turns getting all the hype, marijuana has just hollered in the case of merely the most-decorated Olympian in history, Michael Phelps. It has tried to yell from the recent past of the Super Bowl most valuable player, who alighted at Disney World only four months after a forgotten arrest.

This should prove to the world that one can enjoy some herb and still get their goals accomplished, be it a strong healthy family or 8 Olympic gold medals.
Swimming is a harsh sport; you utilize every muscle system in the body. I mean, this isn't put-put, ya know?
If Phelps is toking and doing as well as he has, and probably will continue to do, then hopefully some uneducated eyes will open up to the fact that just because a person indulges in some ganja doesn't mean that they're a stereotypical slacker. It is perfectly feasible for one to enjoy MJ and still function in society, excel, even.
I used to think Phelps was kind of cute; now I consider him to be the 2nd hottest man on earth. (next to my hottie hubby honey, of course!) :s3:

The owner if the bong wasn't even at the party, but it showed-up on eBay for a starting price of $100,000.00. I guess the sheriff was the winning bidder, lol. It likely pissed-off the sheriff seeing evidence being disposed-of, which I'll bet triggered the arrests.
Doubtful the sheriff has done anything but his job, and likely there's a reason those involved were busted. If the sheriff has overstepped his authority, the court will remedy the error.
If you play the game, better be ready to pay the price. End of story. Don't like the rules, or those that enforce 'em...? Then, get to work and change those rules. You keep deflecting the responsibility of this on every fucking person and corporation under the sun, except for those that are responsible for their own actions.

No...it's just the sheriff busting those stupid enough to be caught breaking the law. The fact remains...cannabis use and distribution is against federal law, and some state laws. The sheriff didn't photoshop the pictures. He has not tried to frame Phelps and friends. But you expect a law enforcement official to turn a blind eye under such close national press scrutiny? Likely that was the guiding force behind the arrests. Plus, video and photographic evidence is permissible and will likely be used at the hearings, if they even go that far.
What part of personal responsibility do y'all not understand? Is this where society is headed...? "it's just not fair"... "it's not my fault"..."everyone else is doing it"..."poor me"..."but it's only a little illegal..." ..."it's a bad law, so I won't respect it" are not valid reasons for any argument on this subject, and doubtful it would cary much weight with the judge. They are nothing but excuses for ones own ineptitude. Whining may get you what you want from parents or teachers, but in real life, you just look like a whiner.

You really think if it was a picture of you or me taking a bong hit and it was mailed to that sherrif he would seek us out and bust us??? It wouldnt be worth his time we are nobodies...were not famous...... We could be on America Most Wanted.... have you seen these bong bandits:D
Cops have the power to do as they will...if they Want to get you they will...even if they have to fabricate charges/evidence....they can also use their personal discretion and let a person off the hook.
Friend of mine got busted with a pringles potatoe chip can can full of weed in his car...cops took the weed (45 gs)....he got a ticket 2 weeks later for 3 gs
Michael Phelps, Hypocrisy, & American Drug Policy
Of course it's his celebrity that got this going. Were it you or me, the media wouldn't have made such a big friggin deal about it for days/weeks. You never would have seen us on the cover pages of magazines and papers, or be the opening stories on the network news programs disecting our infamous bonghit. But we don't have an olympic athlete's image on the line, either.
What's the sheriff going to do, avoid doing his job? Show the watchful nation that in his state, his officers occationally look the other way if they don't agree with the law? I know it's not like Phelps was photographed slapping a hooker. Regardless...the cops don't make the law, but they have been sworn to uphold it. (especially when the cameras are rolling) In the face of the media frenzy, I'd have been surprised if they didn't send the message that this is inappropriate public behavior. If you do something stupid in public, it's only fair you get a "I'm a stupid-person" penalty. Likely they'll get a suspended sentence or a small fine, same as everyone else.
With regards to your friend...who the fuck smokes Pringles flavored pot...? (kidding)
Lets see...45 grams is almost two ounces. He got a ticket for 3 grams, and you think he got screwed? Sounds to me like he was done a favor, big time.
Michael Phelps, Hypocrisy, & American Drug Policy
Thoreau, King and Gandhi all said it and so will I....the fact that it's a bad law IS ENTIRELY VALID as a justification for breaking it. Shitting all over an oppressive and harmful law, and then proclaiming your righteousness in doing so, is the noblest act a citizen can undertake.
Thank god Schindler didn't have the same attitude as you, Rusty, or a lot more Jews would have died.
I see peoples' points about the responsibility he had under contract, and I concede that he probably should have exercised more discretion, but the fact remains that, oppressive terms or not, he did nothing wrong. What's a celebrity to do, refuse to sign a contract offering him fame and wealth because an activity he enjoys in his spare time is prohibited in the fine print? No, any of us, pretentions of integrity or not, would sign the thing and then secretly light up.
If it weren't for the fact that he apologized like a bitch, I would have seen him as a transgressional hero standing up for the idea that one can be a great athlete and a great role model and still hit the bong. Were I him, my statement would have been something along the lines of "Occasional pot-smoking is not amoral, and I saw it as a much cleaner message to send to children than had I been photographed drinking a beer." I would lose all contracts after that, of course, but I'd be true to my ideals and I'd have enough fucking money. I mean, really, so he loses all his contracts and can never compete again....he has enough money to fund half of NORML.
Michael Phelps, Hypocrisy, & American Drug Policy

Too bad it wasn't your decision. You could have screwed-up the rest of his career for him.
He wasn't there taking bonghits to draw attention to the social injustice of a bad law. He wasn't there to send a message to kids. He was there cutting lose at a college campus, and got caught in the media frenzy that followed.
Since you are so quick to judge him, how are we to judge you? Lets see: Are you whining about someone you've never met, not meeting your expectations? Are you whining because he had an opportunity to flip-off the establishment, but REFUSED to do so? Are you whining because he didn't pick-up the banner and run with it?
Like most of us, he lives in the real world. If you are counting on a well-payed athlete to drop everything and come running to the cause to suit your needs, you're nuts. You got to see his 15 minutes of bonghit fame, and now your desire is to hijack his morality with a lose interpretation of yours? He's a talented athlete with a lot to lose, and he's apparently attempting to show some modicum of responsibility. Yet you dis him like a punk.
But I'm guessing I've never seen you parked in front of a network or cable news camera smoking bonghits and spouting how noble a cause you represent, or how kids will find cannabis less addictive and destructive than alcohol. (that would go over well)
Oh...and fuck you about the jew remark. Cannabis laws and war crimes, are in no way related. Comparing apples and oranges to this sickening and uncalled for magnitude often labels one as overly dramatic, nonsensical and quite frankly, irrelevant. (like a drama queen whining about her std's)
