A reminder that you'll need to limit your discussion of substances in this thread to cannabis, please. I realize this is difficult because this is a discussion of disability, but we have a cannabis-only discussion policy here. If you have to refer to other illicit drugs, you'll have to do so without naming them. Normally we'd also delete threads mentioning other prescription drugs, but I'll give those posts that already mention them the same latitude they'd receive in our medical/health sub-forum since this is a discussion about medical disability.
Please make your best effort to limit your mentions of other substances, including prescription painkillers, in future threads. You can do that by simply referring generically to prescription painkillers instead of the drug names themselves. Remember that threads mentioning other illicit substances will be deleted entirely.

You could of put what you've been prescribed in the past in an attempt to manage your pain but nothing so far has helped and you're still seeking relief from your chronic pain. Or tell them something to that effect when they ask you about it.

Stickyfing: NEVER mention pot, it is not legal federally! You are applying for a federal fund. That being said, your recomendation-did you have your stone age records sent to the mmj Dr; SS will get them that way! I don't think it will matter in your case!
I have had a little experience for myself and helping a few others. I applied in 1980's (early) for a friend I lived with's brother that was mentally challenged! It was such a cakewalk, I don't remember doing much, except cusing some cob up the ass bitch over the phone and told her to do her job! That is it! Apparently, the family had applied in Indiana (I did not know) and was told later he could not get it, ever! When he got it, all his relatives wanted him and the money! Was glad to let them, their pissing and fighting was crap! I recall they did put him in all kinds of programs that helped. They put him in social organizations and all kinds of things. I'd like to take the credit. But, i only had one meeting in one place for him and none of his family had to do shit! I am very happy for him. Even got buses to go 4 miles out of city to pick him up--others started using the bus also! He went back to Indiana!
second experience WHICH RELATES TO U! I have extremely similar problems! I applied for SSD in Feb and had a big ass check end of April! Back pay and all! My understanding is--U DO NOT PAY SS ATTORNIES, so you can afford it! I was sent to a shrink that used a Dr.'s office, I knew and worked with in the past, he did a mickey mouse chit chat with me! I THINK THE MOST IMPORTANT THING WAS THE INTERVIEWER! He was nice and pleasant, I was open and honest with illness and care given me.
In my `case I had an injury, took a few failed surgeries and just got worse! I use devices to aid my walking, more now than then. I could do more with a cane. I can go faster and farther with a walker. I am slow and determined without either! Anyway, I stopped my meds--100% days before the interview. So, they can see me as I am, without meds! Didn't tell them, kept getting my meds routinely, if I used them or not! After the interview, I could hardly get off his hard chair and he almost had to help me! THEY VIEW YOUR PHYSICAL CONDITION AND I think send it for the "easy pass" or "hard time " file! Those examiners are trained to look for the smallest detail. If you drop a pen and pick it up, you are fine. so, if you drop your pen, ask them to pick it up for you! Go in hurting! I recall no problem what so ever! Done in less than 3 mos. Said they read my M.D.'s records and made determination from it, according to acceptance letter! They determined my disability was the year before and for some reason gave me retro pay til then. I did not question it.
To this day, I fear calling them for anything, that they will review it! Not that I won't have a problem. I hate going in. don't want to see them and hear their bull!
For many years after, like clockwork. I received a form to fill out for them. It was identical to original. I checked the box, I am not working yet! Copied previous facts and went on. (Oh, the shrink was for my mal-adjustment to not being able to work). Perhaps that helped, but it still stings! I think they did that for about 5 years. Now, I look at my bank statement periodically to see if I am still getting it!
I never heard of anyone taking a blood test for meds! In fact, I think that ought be an invasion of privacy. Anytime, you stick your body with a needle, you are running a risk of infection. Not often, but it happens. Worse, if you are disabled, there are days you just hate to go to the doc for meds or tests! I cancel more Dr. visits than I keep. But, I still get my meds right on que! If I don't get the meds, I expect, my dr. won't prescribe any and then I'll have SS problems!
you get Medicare 3 years after you are determined to be disabiled.
Then my 3rd experience. A 60 yr. old uncle of mine, stubborn and dumb, could have got on disability for single digit IQ, as far as, I am concerned. But, he was rejected 3 times. I spent a few days working with him, getting all the info (was difficult-he thought it was a joke and he was funny). Then I filled out the form and he signed! Denied! I cannot for the life of me figure why! He had a retirement income, insurance and was getting by fine. Then he got a lawyer, after the denial. Not many mos. later he received an retro-active check for well over $50,000.00 from SSD! As they pay retro from time of application until acceptance!
Tylenol is in Vicodin and Tylenol is not good for your body! They'll stuff it down you until you say it doesn't work and insist on something else. I do go to a 'pain clinic' in my HMO. I've tried everything and hate it all! Was nice to get mmj and take a vacation from the pills.
I am the only person I have met that was placed on SSD with first application and never had to put a patient gown on for any SS exam!
Then they will follow up with tricks. Send a post-card, are you interested in being trained in a field of work you can do? I put NO! I loved what I do and keep my license current, waiting for medical cures that are coming around now. I figure they will drop you if they think, YOU think you can work!
If you can engage the interviewer with a little chit chat. Tell them working is your life and self worth. You are depressed because you cannot work. I hope you get the picture!
It will not do you any good to give them your medical records, they will get them and that is how they do business! It is nice to have them, but they want their own records, untouched by you.
Can you believe, not one SSD/SSI worker on this site?
I know people that are blamers. When something goes wrong intheir life, it is always your fault. Suspect, they will be calling SS on you! I've done tons of shit I shouldn't and figure, it doesn't matter what you do once you are on it! Everyone has that day: I want to go horseback riding, fishing, etc. So, you take extra pills to get thru it and have some fun. Or take them all at once, when you are finished, so you can lie down or get out of the car! Many, save them for evening and tell the Dr. they don't help in the dose he gives, so you save them, take at night so you can sleep! I have done it all and no longer hear from them, except annual statements!
Snufu: have you checked veggii's history. That was no joke, were you loaded? It was not funny at all. He may die before he gets on it! That is a fact and some people really do! I am not sure they put medical prob. in history anymore, but he has a big one. I cannot in my wildest dream imagine why he is not on SSD/SSI! Stoned--with pain, I bet! MMJ is so expensive, you give up things you need to get it. You can't afford it on disability. He is a kind young man in lots of pain!
Sorry, so long, but I feel this is a very important problem for a lot on this site.
Oh, I own my home, vehicle was new and paid; and put off applying for years, as you. When they asked me why, I told them I take a lot of pride in supporting myself! With a little forced tear in my eyes! Plus, I did a little sneaky thing just before I did it! Dumb, but it probably helped and I cannot put it on this site! Sorry! Well, a little. I transferred all my assets, other than car and house into a friends name. So, I appeared to be broke to the pocket and desperate to the interviewer. Talked about low self esteem as a result of inability to work. Then swung my mood into laughter a bit, inappropriate! I am glad it went through!
As long as I had money, I did not feel I should apply. that is wrong. You need to apply no matter what if you are disabiled! I thot you had to be broke first, not so! But, appearing to be, helped. They know exactly your finance's! If I had money in the bank, I bet i would have been refused.
The kind interviewer said; ' Due to your assets, we'll place you on SSD, so you can own up to 2 homes, etc! Then they started their investigation.
I do hope this helps! But, Bush put a priority on reviewing ALL SSD/SSI cases when Iraq started. I know people that had been on it all their lives, that got harassed! I never did. He had them review each and every case. It started with that letter, would you like to be re-trained to work? I put no and never heard again. An acquaintance, put yes. He did not have a day to himself for years. They harassed him and made him go to all kinds of things. Finally he gave up his Driver's License and they left him alone! I recall reading in the paper that they would review each case! If you want to read it, I bet one of you expert computer people could find that article!
There are people on it, you meet and wonder why. Particularly, when they are working a full time job of labor and never have a down day or complain of any physical problems. Nor, do they wear it on their sleeve that they are on it. And that my friend, pisses me off! When someone tells me they are on it and they don't have anything wrong with them admittedly! That is what is wrong with that system.
I paid a lot into it, never worked just one job! But, I never had the attitude they owed me either. I was more upset that I couldn't be 'fixed' over night! Still am, I guess!
Stickyfing: U R not going to get better, sorry to tell you. So, push as far as you can on your own, if you have to have a hearing, get an attorney prior to that. I know of no one that went to a hearing and got it without a lawyer! Remember, they are basically, free, just take 12% (last quote I heard) of what they get for you in the retro payment! I think lawyers slow it down, the longer they take the more they make!
I tend to ramble my thots on a PC, not like a piece of paper and pencil, you just quickly look at what you said, I am not a computer friendly person! I DO HOPE THERE IS SOME INFO HERE THAT WILL HELP and you understand my dialog! pr :smokin:

WOw,thanks painretreat,I just looked on the back of the forms and it said HIPPA does not apply to the Dissability,I guess the patriot act or something, they were saying they will grab all info......now thats not so reassuring.
Filing Dissability and being a MMJ pateint
People have to remember with SSDI this is money you and your employers have paid into the system. You're not taking anything from anybody. This is your own money that you are trying to get because you can't do the job that you're trained to do. And it ain't much but it helps.
Filing Dissability and being a MMJ pateint
Stickyf: glad 2 B of help. HIPPA wasn't here when I applied-sorry! But, go figure. U pay them and they spend more money harassing you than giving you the benefits.
Killer: You are so right--but they will gladly train u in something else, most likely you cannot do!
So, don't fall for that trap, unles you see something you really think you can do. Cause, it screws with your bene's!
And believe me, they will sit right in front of you and tell you exactly how long you paid in to decide if you get SSD or SSI! If you have paid in a long time, you are entitled to SSD. It allows you to own things. Property, nice car and have a good life, if you can figure out how to support it on the penny's they give you.
SSI is nice, it pays 100% of your medical bills, but you cannot own a thing! So, think about what is best for you!:hippy:
I think the insurance company's got shitty before SS benefits got so hard to get. Guess, if ins. co's can screw u; the Gov't shall, as well! I just hope it all goes well for you and you appear in a lot of pain and hobble around!
It is sad that most people, even the disable, think: If you can walk and talk, there is nothing wrong with you! That thinking sucks and so do people who think it.
Sadly, the people that need to give u your benefits, pretty much think like that!
Just thinking, I think, I'd inquire: Exactly, what do they mean by the Hippa statement! Just curious! Thanks and again, good luck. I know how you feel and there is nothing worse than getting stomped on when you are down!:hippy:

I just got my initial determination yesterday and was turned down so I guess its on to the attorneys for the 2 appeals. I imagine my first appeal will be turned down so the second one will be in front of a judge. Its all part of the game.
