REALLY?!?! still.....!?!?!

I cheat...I use a moisture meter probe....(it's longer and thinner than my finger)...goes all the way down on a 10 inch pot...and tells me "wet/normal/dry"...I water when it says "dry"...:thumbsup:


...plus, I don't like getting my fingernails dirty...:postexcuseme:

This is true, and there is one more reason, which is that as the water recedes, air is sucked in to replace it, bringing much-needed oxygen to the root zone. Without oxygen, you get what is termed 'reducing conditions' in nerd land (a place from which I have many visa stamps on my passport hahaha), and soil chemistry becomes unfit for plant life, and only certain anaerobic bacteria can survive there.

thanks!!! now I "get" the wet/dry cycle thing...Damn I need to update my styles...lol, I have always watered after second knuckle went in dry....at least that seems to be my problem, and not something worse....yippee....thats what i got stinks and them for...to keep me in line;)

Is it one of those Rapitest Mini Moisture Meters? (say that shit 10x backwards) I got one for like $5-10 and it doesn't work well. I tried it out on my outdoor potted tomato plants (really tomatoes, not code), which had just gone through a rain storm so they were completely saturated, and it barely registered. I didn't bother using it with my indoor plants, because I'm comfortable with recognizing when they need water now. Do they actually measure the moisture in the soil, or is it based on density? I would imagine that heavily watered soil would have greater density, pushing in on the probe, making it register WET. Likewise, dry soil would be lighter, creating less pressure on the probe.

i got a moisture meter for this reason too1!! and it also sucks balls....dry old balls...my shit was soaked and barely registered too....fuck it...i get it now, I can judge by weight of pot....heh....weight of pot!!!

My moisture meter says "Made In China"....but it jives with "pick up the pot and feel the the weight" method...never hurts to double check...:thumbsup:

I'm with Pimp on this (ok....not literally...:D) I believe I got so frustrated with my shitty soil moisture meter that I put it under the wheels of my truck and ran over it several times.

Seemed to work a bit better after that.........:wtf:
