A couple questions: #1- Are these plants big/old enough to start flowering? They have been vegging for 2 months and they are about 18 inches tall. #2- Can a rootbound condition cause hermaphrodite plants? #3- Besides NL99, NL, and C99, what are some other low odor strains? Thanks!:)
#1 Yup, most plants (but not all) are sexually mature enough to flower after about 4-5 weeks. Some growers like to wait until the nodes start alternating to switch to flowering, but due to height/time constraints, other growers like to force earlier. Can't quite tell by your pictures, but it looks like your nodes are already alternating.Quote:

#3 You've already listed the biggest low-odor strains that I know of. I use a carbon filter, and so even with the skunkiest strains I've grown, I've rarely noticed an overpowering odor. I'll tell you this: if you're not wanting to deal with heavy odors, stray away from Skunk/Skunk hybrids, dominant Afghanis, and most "White" strains. Some have a very pungent veg stage, while others get really smelly in flower. Some strains are ridiculously odiferous in both stages of growth.
If smells are an issue, think of running a carbon scrubber to an active exhaust in the growroom. That makes a HUGE difference. Take care. :jointsmile:
I have a DIY carbon scrubber for my bagseed plants in flowering but there is still a noticeable smell. I dont know if its because its a DIY or if the store bought ones work better. I have a thread on the cabinet that shows a pic of the carbon scrubber. I would post a link to the thread but I cant figure out how, but its "Just built this cabinet, tell me what you think". I think a search would bring it up
I made a pretty simple DIY carbon filter that I have running to a Vortex 460, and it does a good job at keeping odors in check. But also the room that it's in is almost completely sealed, which helps keep the smell located in one area, and what gets vented goes directly outside. I checked out your other thread (cabinet looks great, by the way) but I couldn't tell if you were venting outside, or just outside of the cabinet. If you're just venting into the room that the cabinet is in, you may want to think about using something to mask the odors in that room... which should take care of any telltale odors outside of the cabinet. Either that, or your activated carbon might need to be changed. I usually have to change mine about once every two years, depending on how long it's been in use. I'm considering buying a prefabricated one myself, as I'm hearing of people who use theirs for several years without the need to change the carbon.
Yea its just vented outside the cabinet into the room. I did put a couple of the Renuzit Odor Killer air fresheners in the cab and one at the bottom of my stairway leading to the basement. Seems to help a bit. I got these after my cousin walked in the back door last week and said "Your house always smells like pot." She smokes too but doesnt know I grow and I'm trying to keep it that way. :stoned:
Hey IR, what do you feed your NL99 plants? How often? Are they light or heavy feeders? Thanks for any info! :)
I transplanted again the other day into 5 gallon buckets. And started 12/12 light schedule. My soil mix is 2 parts FFOF soil, 2 parts FFLW soil, 1 part perlite, 1 part hydroton grow rocks, 3 tsp. plant success, 3 tsp. high P bat guano. Pics coming soon :jointsmile:
O my has it grown!! Ever since I put them in 5 gallon buckets they shot up like...well, a weed. And of course without failure, I'm having problems. Lower leaves showing dead spots/blotches. Been feeding Fox Farm Tiger bloom and Calmag. Deficiency? Over fert?
Feed schedule
They seemed to perk up more after feeding them. And showed worse signs after the last watering with calmag. I'm leaning towards deficiency. Any advice?
