Well, you are absolutely correct about that. I have way waaaaaay WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY too much time on my hands. My problem is that I can pretty much choose how to spend my time right now, and I end up choosing to spend too mcuh of it here. But that's probably an OK problem to have, I suppose.

Sorry about the thread hijack, but I had saved some of these stories before the forums they were in closed, and I wanted to post them back here again. Too bad the whole threads were lost, because they are a lot funnier and more instructive when they have the whole context. Oh well. Nothing is permanent on these crazy internets, is it?

Okay, so I have my Everclear, and I just poured it into a 2.4 ounce flask, along with 1/8 gram of mids and .5 grams of nice quality kief. Unfortunately, it's mostly green instead of amber, which means more cholorphyll, but that's okay, I'm certainly not drinking it for taste.

The mixture's murky with millions of little trichromes swimming in the sea of green, and I've put it into a dark place where I will keep it until this weekend, when I do a hot water bath to get the mixture a bit more concentrated.

Now we play the waiting game...

Anyway... is nice to see that all that posts were not lost... as they are a chapter of cann.com's history! And a very fun one! Hopefully we will have more of this posts :D

And PurpleBanana, you dont need to wait for weeks until the THC dissolve. If you use the water bath method, you can make the green dragon way faster. Just heat it in the water bath during about 1 hour. I heat it in a cup with a dish over its mouth, so the vapours of alcohol condenses there and returns to the cup.
Also, during the heating it starts to appear a thin layer of a dark oily thing just above the alcohol level, which keeps glued to the cups wall. This oily thing is hash oil, so whenever you see it, shake the cup a bit, so the alcohol washes it down and re-dissolves it.
After this 1 hour heating, the remaining alcohol (with all hash oil dissolved in it) can be drinked and enjoyed :stoned::stoned::stoned:

Im pretty sure several failures reported in g.d. is due this fact. People heats it and some hash oil keep glued to the cup's wall. They dont know about it, so they drink the alcohol and wash away "that oily thing that was glued to the cup" without knowing this "oily thing" was the most important part of the misture.

SHIT! I just forgot to bake my cannabis/kief in the oven for the THCA-THC thing... Will it convert if I water bath it?

Well... thats a hard question... ive read that the THCA is difficult to extract, and thats why we decarboxilate it first.
Yet, it seems that when the water bath heating is done for this large amount of time (1 hour), it is enough to decarboxilate it.
Dragonrider, who experimented a lot with green dragon could give you a more exact answer... my own answer is based on a post from him which says he could restore some old green dragon to its original potency after heating it.

So, in short... i would use the water bath heating during 1 hour... or even more, maybe 1.30 h... it would be enough.

EDIT: Anyway, for make sure all THC would be used, after extracting the green dragon, i would get the "extracted" weed, dry it, decarboxilate it in the oven and smoke it... if there were any THCA that werent extracted during the green dragon making, it would be converted into THC, and so the weed still would be "smokable" after the extraction.

Actually, I think you can still save it. Master Wu did an experiment in which he used the 200F for 20 mins decarb process in the oven and compared it to his usual process where he used 325F for 5 mins. He didn't feel that 200F for 20 mins worked as well, so afterwards he cooked his GD for an hour or two and it got better. I've had GD lose potency over time, and after I heated it for an hour or so, it seemed like the high got better. I think the same thing will work for you.

My suggestion would be that you cook the whole mixture, weed and Everclear together, in the double boiler water bath setup for at least an hour, maybe two. I think that should decarboxylize it and maybe isomerize it a bit too.

1. I use a pyrex cup. Put the weed and Everclear in the pyrex cup.
   
2. Put an inch or two of water in a saucepan and bring it up to a gentle boil.
   
3. Set the pyrex cup inside the saucepan so that the hot water comes up the side part way, but does not spill into the cup.
   
4. Cover the saucepan with a lid. Or you could use Coelho's method of just covering the cup with a dish (or maybe aluminum foil) so that the alcohol returns to the liquid. I use the lid to keep the heat in and I just replenish the Everclear as it boils away. If you use a lid, be sure that the boil does not get too high inside the pan --- you just want a very gentle simmer.
   
5. Keep the simmer going for an hour or two. Because you skipped the decarboxylization step, I would lean towards 2 hours.
   
6. Monitor the simmer and the alcohol level in the cup. Do not let it overboil. And if the alcohol level drops, add more. As Coelho mentioned, if there is an oily ring, be sure to wash that with alcohol to keep it dissolved.
   
7. After the two hours, strain out the good green dragon into another cup and save it.
   
8. I like to do a second extraction by adding the strained out solids back into the original cup and adding some more fresh Everclear. Bring it up to temperature, but it is not necessary to boil it for so long, maybe just 10 or 15 minutes. Then stain that out and add the second extraction to the first.
   
9. Figure out your dosing. Mix it into a drink. Chug it on down. And say Hi to Shamanic Hippie from us!
   
10. Then post back and tell us how it was!

So this is what it looks like so far... Gorgeous emerald color, but I'm thinking that's the cholorophyll leaching from the bud... How does it look to youse guys?

Well... it actually looks beautiful to the eyes but... only to the eyes, im afraid.
When i make green dragon it is WAY darker... its brownish and almost opaque. Im almost sure your emerald green solution has only chlorophyll...
Anyway, you will get most (if not all) THC from the weed when you hot water bath it. The extraction of thc by alcohol at room temperature takes a LOT of time, and as it wasnt decarboxilated, great part of THC still is in the THCA form, which is not extracted by the alcohol. Only when you heat it the THCA will be converted into THC and extracted to the alcohol.

Do you think water bath will turn it the correct brownish color if I do it for 1.5-2 hours?
