Using an $96 Hortilux with added blue 400HPS on one side, and a $129Hortilux Ultra ace Conversion bulb (off a 400HPS convertable ballast) I found the conversion bulb gave better results it terms of bud density and overall growth and consistency of canopy height.
Perhaps it would make a difference if you are using the one bulb for both veg and flower.
If I had to purchase again I would not have spent the extra $$ on the added blue to use for flower only.
I am using now this FS-Deluxe-600: 90.000 Lumen(lm)
193.500 Phyto-Lumen(Phyto-lm)

I am proud to say that I use an HPS from start to finish. I use a 600w HPS for veg and flowering. Cuttings get some flo's for the rooting and then off to the HPS.You could add some white or blue light if you like, but the HPS seems to be doing GREAT things for the plants.

I use the Philips 400w mastercolor hps retro-white ceramic metal halide. Only works in a 400 watt hps magnetic ballast. The full color spectrum of this bulb is unmatched in my opinion and I have had excellent results with it.
I use it from veg through flowering. Before switching to this bulb last year, I had been using the eye hortilux. you can get them for $50 - $60.
Has anyone else tried these bulbs?
Regards,
JT
