its hard to say exactly, usually between 7-14 days depending on strain, bud density, temp, & humidity.
start keeping an eye on em after about a week, and then check em every day after until dry.
remember, 60-65 degrees & 50% humidity, & dont let buds lose flexibility, too dry & buds will break upon contact when placing in bags, then youre left with a bunch of powder at the bottom of the bag.
Its my first time growing, but I'm thinking about putting an open bag of trimmed bud in a sealed container of dried ammonium nitrate, which for those of you who don't know, is EXTREMELY hygroscopic. I'm guessing it should dry em out pretty quick, I just hope I don't knock it over and get AN on my buds :(.
Anybody ever tried something like that before?
Why would you risk getting that shit on your buds? Just hang em man.
The point of curing is to dry your buds out as slowly as possible without having them start molding; drying them out fast isn't the way to go unless you're in a hurry or your buds are just how you like them.
Plastic allows air to pass through it, albeit slowly, so it's not the best choice for long-term storage. Glass and metal are the best choices. Are you sure you can't just get a few pickle jars? Anyway, if you do use bags, freezer bags are better than sandwich bags. Cold cereal bags are pretty thick too, and foil bags are the best.
they sell mason jars at walmart ... the best imho
It's easiest to just save jars from pickles or spaghetti sauce or salsa. When I need jars, I just look in the fridge and there's pretty much always some forgotten jar in the back that's almost empty.
To reiterate, glass is best, but thick plastic is almost as good and you probably won't notice the difference.
my gradnma cans preserves all year... we have like a billion of these jars.... now to fill them with some BUD.
Ive kept buds in freezer bags and in the fridge for at least 6 months before with no signs of mold or even loss of freshness for that matter.
Heres my intake on drying and curing process:
Chop down the plants once the trichomes have turned amberish/mysty in color and most of the hairs are brown. Dry until the stems of the buds are just able to "crack" and you can feel them and be sure there is no moisture. There is no definite dry and cure method, but air sealed jars (glass or plastic as long as there clean and dry) are needed and reccomended time for flavor and potency is 2weeks + for curing. Ive smoked nug that cured for 10 moths and it was unbelieveably stinky and good tasting
