what are the odds off my small grow opp getting busted?
I thought that in order to get our ip's, they had to bust the server(Like OG.com)?? If that is the case then if that were to happen would we not just "duck and cover"?? If this site went down then my 2 plants would be relocated immediately. I'm talking within hours until I knew for sure that it was technical or something.
What about you people?

| I would acid dip the plants and let the pigs eat the stems, They could have tapped
| your line already and marching to your front door right now, with all that 2 plant
| talk. I can see the 15 cops working on your case right now reading "2 plants" get
| the dogs and the choppers were going in. I like to think I am important also and its
kinda fun to think the cops care about you.
2 plants lol

Hey who said I had to limit my paranoia? If I want to I can believe there reading my keystrokes as they leave my PC to the Net. I may be over paranoid but I've also never been busted for even a roach. So while my friends are saying to relax a little, I'm writing to them in jail :wtf: . I'll stay on the paranoid side thanks.

It depends. If you are in Cali, then the legalities are different. Do you have your 215?
OK general rules, if you are doing anything you are worried about, remember to follow all other laws. Make it always look like you are in compliance. No speeding, no loud parties, nothing that will draw negative attention. Discretion is the word of the day.

Even if they get your IP, so what? Consider the media ramifications of them bursting into some old lady's home in the middle of the night and giving her a heart attack, then finding nothing except an unsecured wireless router. Lawsuit city there.
For security, as mentioned: no parties, no disturbing the peace, no loud dogs barking, no hippies coming over if you can avoid it, no large amounts of foot traffic, nothing in sight from any window or from aircraft, no smell, and never put incriminating stuff in your trash. If you have to dump some trash, dump it the same morning they pick it up, and dump it in a trash receptacle at least a block away. Also, I highly recommend having lots of potted plants and/or a garden around, so if you should need to get some deliveries, you've got a clear, visible purpose for such things. Plus, it's healthy and good for the environment. ;)

Ok ok good point! Guess I never thought of that lol. They would probably have a hard time even getting that warrant.
And I've always had many plants around the house and a well known aquarium so nothing I do around the house ever seems suspicious. I'm always dumping 5gal buckets of dirty tank water into the many plants around the house. Any of my neighbors have seen me doing my aquarium/plant thing at least 50 times since I moved here. And most of them have been to see my fish.

Yeah, I highly doubt that an IP address and some logs are enough for a warrant. Might be enough for them to go take a look around, but if there's nothing to see or smell, no complaints from the neighbors, nothing in your public trash bins that's suspicious, well...that's about the end of the road for them.
Same goes for helicopter surveillance and thermal imaging, at least in the U.S. - they can't thermally image your house, see 20 1k lights, then get a warrant. Why? Because the Supreme Court has decreed that thermally imaging someone's home *is* a search and thus requires a warrant *before* they do it. And if they have a warrant already, then there's no point in wasting helicopter time or using expensive thermal imagers when they've got bored cops willing to tear homes apart and lotsa cheap squad cars. But I'm sure they do cheat a little, by thermally imaging entire neighborhoods, seeing where the lights are, then snooping around those homes to see if they can find some evidence that *would* allow a warrant. But again, if there's nothing to see, nothing to smell, no complaints from neighbors, no suspicious foot traffic, well...the road ends there, again. (Not to mention, there's nothing at all illegal about buying some 1k lights and having an indoor tropical bonsai garden or some peppers or whatever.)

Technically correct, but in essence not so much. While the IP and logs probably wouldn't be enough to get a warrant, it could easily be enough for them to get a subpoena that they can take to your ISP and ask for all your contact info as well as your surfing habits. It would be up to your ISP as to whether or not they'll fight the subpoena, but don't hold your breath :D
It also depends on how damaging your logs are. Even though it's on a pro-MJ board, a thread like this won't hurt you. But some of the grow journals I've seen ARE enough to get a warrant, once they've established who actually took the pics and made the posts.
As far as internet security goes, if you're posting any thing, especially pics, regarding growing, purchasing, or possessing any significant quantities then you better have some sort of proxy set up. For the most part, the best ones cost money and the very best ones are located in the EU, especially in Germany, which has some of the toughest privacy laws in the world.
Alternately, consider using Tor (google it heh). Tor uses basically the same techniques that hackers use to hide their tracks - it daisy-chains data requests through multiple computers located all over the world before the request actually goes out to the web. The main difference is that a hacker uses involuntarily hijacked computers and the network Tor uses is created by people who have given permission for their machines to be part of the network. The effect is the same though - a randomly changing IP address that's almost impossible to trace.

OK, so now what do I do? The seeds I ordered from a foreign country were confiscated by someone. The envelope showed up all nicely addressed, and with a return address to a post office box in this other country. But the envelope was slit open, the contents were removed, and the envelope was stapled shut. No explanation; no warning; no nothing.
So now do I start worrying about getting raided? I'm thinking that since I received no explanation, then it wasn't the USPS. Don't they HAVE TO tell me if they've intervened in my mail delivery? Since I got the envelope at all, then I doubt that it is my local mail carrier himself. The slit in the envelope was not done by a machine, and the staples appear to be from the manual-type stapler, and not a high-capacity "cut from wire on the fly" machine type. I'm thinking the postal service in this other country (known for their seed exports) checks some samplings of curious envelopes, and they stop so many shipments a year. Do I have to worry about them contacting Johnny Law over here?
I have a small grow, for personal consumption, and I have a small amount of finished product in my home. It wouldn't be hard for an investigator to make a case against me since I've purchased most everything on-line during the past few years. But I am very SMALL TIME. Will they bother with me, or are they looking for bigger fish to fry?
Just because I'm paranoid doesn't mean that they AREN'T after me.

boyMIstoned, i doubt that they would waste time with you (nothing personal ;) lol, i mean as a small time personal grower). at worst they would send a car around to "check for suspicious activities" - smell of mj, lights on 24 hours a day etc.
think of it this way - the big time growers who they are trying to catch are not growing from seeds......
they have many many mother plants that produce lots and lots of clones.
i don't know though, the police in your area may be trying to achieve their quota. if they have to get their quota then they may just keep digging for information....
