It depends on the individual state. In some states it's as simple as fearing for your life or the life of another. In others you are required to equal or lesser force in order to defend yourself (I'm not 100% sure on this.) Many states require you to try and flee before you use deadly force, where as others, like my lovely state, allow you to kill fire preemptively as soon as someone enters your private property without permission.
Overall it depends on the state though.
Side note:
There was a case here a few years ago where a guy shot someone from his balcony who was breaking into his car. He was tired of his shit getting stolen in New Orleans, so he killed the next kid he saw doing it. I supported him, unfortunately he was convicted...

The thing about squatting is not quite like that, there has to be no active residence of the property, a "section 6" must be displayed on the door and there must be atleast one person in the property at all times to have "squatters rights", or something to that effect.
As for the thread, I was just reading. I'm indecisive all things this deep, because nobody knows, reading for the opinions.

I was just going by what you wrote. You said if a burglar breaks in to your house, and they injure themselves, the burglar can sue. So if a squatter takes over your house because of a loophole, then you can "break in", like a burglar, and they can't hurt you, according to what you wrote. If they hurt you, you can sue, make it worth the house :p

It is difficult to write off millions of years of the belief and fear of an outer 'God' head figure whom is responsible for the volcanoes, the rain storms, thunder storms, the magical white dots in the sky at night drawn upon by the Gods, (what we call stars), and the man in the chariot whom draws the God across the sky with the use of flying horses? (What we call the sun, or what is in actual fact, just another star, one in an infinite number!!) or how about the injustice in the world? The sins? The whole question of the lack of justice? I was a terror in my teens is it justified that I spend eternity in hell? If one had sex before marriage, is it justified that God throw me in HELL for an eternity?

Sorry for dragging you out into the sand a bit, but you have to make that choice, you can leave that town and head off into the dessert, and it will seem like a barren area of empty uncomforting, unsatisfying space, yet if you keep going, and I am always telling people to keep going, you will see some tree's on the horizon, there is water there and signs of civilisation, large amounts of civilisation at a growing rate. There are no promises of an afterlife of eternal joy and heaven, there are no promises of heaven whatsoever, or even any kind of afterlife, there are no threats or promises of eternal punishment, perdition and damnation for the sins.
You will loose the promise of eternal peace and love, but in place you will find a coherent story, a logical, organized, consistently rational, eloquent, expressive, fluent and apprehensible story of our universe and the infinite space and time that surrounds us.
There is no loom of fear over your actions, there is no corrupt priests or caliphs hypocritical doctrines and beliefs, there are no corrupt doctrines, no wars between sects of indoctrinated people, there are none of these.
