officer I do not concent to any searches. and a PHONECALL isn't probable cause buddy. I could make a phonecall right now that my neighbor was smoking pot, and that isn't probably cause. they need HARD evidence, not just a phonecall.
and it isn't illegal to open up a blunt. dumping it on the ground might get you a littering charge or some shit like that

It also depends on if you are in a consent to search state or not. Some states the cops do not need reasonable cause to search, they can do it on a whim.
But from what you said, they didnt have any probably cause to warrant a search of your vehicle. Alot of cops ask because they hope for people to answer like you did, or get scared and fuck up. Play it calm and cool, dont be a dick to the cops, and everything should be ok.
They can only do what the law allows them to, keep up on your local laws, and you will be alot safer in the long run.

Most of those "police and your rights" videos on youtube or other places are wrong. Cops and lawyers laugh at those videos all the time. I read on here that some cop was going to make one but for the most part they are shit.
There is more than just probable cause to search without a warrant. Exigent circumstances also come into play.
FYI for the most part cops can search you at will. Many times it falls under the guise of protecting themselves from an individual with weapons so they get to pat you down.
It is a thin line between cooperating and being hard and you never know what the cop is going to do. I have cooperated only to have the cops arrest me then lie to a judge to make things look like something it wasn't in order to get a warrant only to have to tell another judge they lied. I have cooperated with cops before only to have them let me go completely. You can analyze the situation, how many laws you are breaking, quick impressions of the cop, whether cooperating is going to help, and still be wrong. I usually don't cooperate at all. Not cooperating and being hard might get you arrested and harsher treatment from the cop but it may make it harder to convict you later on because you didn't consent to a search or make statements that can be used against you later.
my friends have gotten caught a couple of times. they always get caught when i stay behind with the rest of the people. one time they caught caught in the middle of winter in a car at a gold course and they had to stand outside for an hour while getting searcehd. they found a dub, and a pipe on one of my friends and they all got summons' for trespassing and possesion of marijuana. they had to go to court and nothing happened to them. this happened in ny by the way. another time they got caught ata beach and they were taken to jail until there parents picked them up. another time my two friends were blazing in a car and like 10 minutes later a cop car pulls up. he finds mad books on growing, a knife, pipes, and a baseball bat in his car. one kids was 16 and the other was 18. the kid that was 18 gave a fake adress and name and nothing happened to him since he had no id. nothing happened to the other kid.
A while ago, my friend got a speeding ticket. My other friend was in the back with a huge bong in his hand. The cop saw him and just laughed. He only got a ticket for speeding and tinted windows. Most cops down here in Southern Cali are pretty cool.
That fuckin' sux dude but it sounds like you should be okay.
What really kills me is that while these cops are harrassing you and your friends for a little weed, some fuckin' child molester or rapist is getting his jollies off somewhere and getting away with it.
The priorities of LE is pretty fucked up, if you ask me.
