I had my right leg amputated in 1996 due to Peripheral Vascular Disease. At the time I was taking handfuls of pain pills, (Vicoden, Lortabs, etc.). I was also doing Heroin. About two months after my amputation I quit the heroin, and about two weeks after that, I quit the pills. Wasn't easy! Smoking marijuana was a big help in getting through that time.
The third month after my amputation I returned to work. Construction, and I continued to work for another five and half years. In 2002 I was unable to stay on my feet,(foot), long enough to continue working on jobsites so I applied for Social Security Disability. I was finally approved in October of 2002.
I knew I couldn't just lay on my ass and not do anything, so I went to Bureau of Vocational Rehabilition to request assistance with occupational training, and help with the repair, or replacement, of my prosthesis.
About now your probably thinking 'what does this have to do with medical marijuana?'
As it happens, when my counselor learned of my medical use of marijuana, he refused to give me any assistance. I didn't have a registry card at the time, but did obtain one. Interestingly, it was the doctor the BVR sent me to who filled out the medical necessity form to send in to get the card. Nonetheless, the BVR still refused to help me. I have been fighting them for nearly a year and half.
January 15th I had a formal hearing. The judge ruled in their favor. His decision was about six pages of ambiguous banter. I have until Wednesday to file a Petition for Judicial Review.
Now comes the good part! I have since been to another doctor at their request. This doctor also endorsed my medical use of marijuana, ruling out other pain relievers because of my Hep C. When I talked to my counselor the other day, I asked him about the report from the doctor. He said, "Well, it's not exactly what I expected."
BTW, and this part really sucks. I haven't smoked since Thanksgiving. I really need a new leg, and some occupational training, and they tell me I have to have a 'clean' urine test to get assistance.
I know by they way they drag their feet I could be dead before I ever get the judicial review. So I'm hoping to get assistance while I suffer from the pain, and depression, of being a one legged guy in a two legged world.

I use cannabis to keep glaucoma under control. It has worked fine for at least 24 years. Dr. prescribed medicine did not work and only led to laser surgery.
I have also have had diabetes for 39 years and have absolutly no sign of diabetic retinopathy. My brother has been blind for 18 years, a non smoker unfortunatly for him.
Any other diabetics out there who have type 1 diabetes and after years of cannabis use still have eyes in excellent shape like mine.
