i dont think you can get more overrated than nickelback.
I think the highest on this list should be
All winners of reality TV pop shows such as Pop Idol
The Spice Girls
Any of the dozens of boybands doing the rounds (think Take That and Backstreet boys)
anything emo and acdc is overplayed
Wow. really sad about some of them. Most listed were pioneers in their genre. While they may not be suitable to your ear, you must not forget their contribution to the industry, the time, and the millions or records sold.
Basically most of the bands you see when you flick onto a music channel or listen to the radio, all those, for want of a better word, emo bands. Time to name a band or two...hmm..Metallica are overrated, regardless of them "selling out" they havent made a decent song in quite some time. Anybody who likes St Anger should be shot...or at least be handed the Ride The Lightning album. However their older material is gold but I can't declare myself a fan of Metallica knowing that they'll never make anything like that again...*sobs*
give me fuel give me fire...ooo...i'd rather not.
To those you listen the Beatles, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, I must say with the utmost respect...You don't shit about music. like I said, they may not be a liking to your ear but every one of those musicians were geniuses in the industry. Have you ever watched a live performance of Led Zeppelin before? John Bonham may be the best drummer in the world. He carries a beat better then a metronome. I saw a live set at Bonnaroo last year called the superjam. Questlove from the Roots, John Paul Jones; led zeppelins mastermind, and Ben Harper. Questlove might just be the best drummer I have seen live. i never got a chance to see Zeppelin. I wasn't old enough.
You think they are over rated because of their "airtime" and the fact that they are still played today. Maybe you are sick of them or don't know much about music history but the fact that they are stilled played today, and often, should be a clue to their greatness. Pink Floyd may have been the most progressive band there ever was, and the Beatles, well just because they are the Beatles doesn't mean they are over rated. Live in 1964 and catch the buzz, the mentality, and the influence that band created and tell me they were over rated. people just dont' know shit about music anymore.
god damn. sorry mods.Quote:

Okay. first off what good is leaving influence if your to thick skulled to take time to appreciate those whom they did influence? Thats like paving highways in darfur where nobody has a car; sort of. If they really did open these musical doors atleast show some appreciation to those whom have surpassed them in every way shape & form.
They may have done it first [or stolen it and got famous for it first] but first is nowhere near the best. Think about it, the first airplanes, boats, cars, computers, and houses, there all complete shit compared to the technology we have today and music is no different.
Just because the only modern music youve heard comes from tv or the radio does not mean that it all sounds like that preprocessed punk emo crap or rap about cars bitches and blunts.
Your the ass in clASSic rock. (ba dum pshh)
but fo real, you shouldn't think so highly of yourslef because of your "origional" taste in music then flaunt your ignorance like double d titties. it just makes you look dumb.
oh, im sorry, nothing personal. just dont tell me i dont know shit about music, cuz i probably know more than you ever will.
Peace, Love and Tar.
